I came here with a group for a pre arranged dinner. It was to be a 2 course buffet for $55 per head so imagined the food would be top notch. Alas the food was very plain - nothing special about it and there was insufficient for the group. No one came to check or top up dishes until later...

This hotel is full of character. Located on the square in Martinborough, it is at the centre of life in this wine-focused town. Our room was charming, opening out onto a balcony which overlooked the square. We enjoyed a good meal In the hotel dining room. The only problem was that the room was full of people (a good sign)...

We stayed one night and were delighted to find we'd been upgraded to a Heritage Room. The bed was comfortable and the verandah outside was a plus, but there was a serious lack of lighting in the bedroom. Also, there was no mirror at all outside the bathroom - rather a shortage of drawers or shelves on which to store...

We stayed for two nights a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed our stay. We liked the double doors leading out on to the wrap around verandah where you could enjoy the town square in front of you. The furnishings were in keeping with the style of the hotel and were very comfortable. We had an enjoyable dinner the first...

We had great reviews about this place, so we even rang ahead to make sure the head chef was working. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations. The porterhouse steak itself was superbly cooked, however it was accompanied by flavourless sides. The duck breast with poutine was not enjoyed by 3 of the 5 guests. Also, one guest...

Stayed two nights at the Martinborough Hotel. It is nicely situated at the square in the center of town. Really nice room with a balcony overlooking the square. Nice bathroom with lionfoot tub. Our deal included breakfast at a local cafe. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Hotel restaurant also very good.

Arrived at the Martinborough Hotel after getting off the ferry at Wellington. Lovely historic hotel in beautiful surroundings, set in the Winelands. Friendly greeting and room satisfactory. Ate in the restaurant in the evening and had a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Unfortunately later that evening we were severely disturbed by very ,very loud music from the pub opposite. Causing complaints from...

Martinborough could be a town from a western film ... and the hotel is no exception! It has been maintained in character, polished wooden floors, decor in character, but the facilities, especially the bathrooms are clean and well stocked. The rooms are named not numbered. Each room has access to the surrounding verandah with a table and chairs for each...

As visitors from the UK we were very impressed with this little hotel . We enjoyed an excellent meal in the restaurant with very good wine, played boules in the pretty garden and had a very comfortable nights sleep . The little kitchen in the cupboard was great for early morning tea . Thank you for a memorable stay .

For a boutique and charming old hotel, Ann's reception, the dining experience.....5 stars. Respectfully, I am giving 4 stars for the following reasons: Smoking is allowed outside the hotel. Martinborough is one of the very few small towns in New Zealand that smoking was evident. The area around the hotel is a bit noisy, kid and dog friendly and loud...
