The Bolling Wilson Hotel was originally built in 1927 as the George Wythe Hotel where it operated until the late 1960's. At that time, it was touted as a fire proof building due to its solid construction, which was important at the time as so many small towns had experienced fires which demolished many of their service facilities. When the property opened you could rent a room for $1.50 for a single and $2.50 for a double, how things have changed! There have been many a wedding and celebration held in the old George Wythe Hotel some 40 years ago and many more to come as the Bolling Wilson Hotel. Since its closure as a hotel in the 1970's it has enjoyed many lives as a bank. When the last bank decided to move and the building became available it was purchased by Bill and Farron Smith of Smith Enterprises, in 2010.

This is a lovely small hotel that provides a welcome antidote to the usual hotel chains. We stayed here twice as it was the half way point between our home and our destination in Weirton, W. Va. Gracious, historic and well maintained. Staff was very friendly and professional. Only complaint - not really a complaint. On our 2d stay of the trip, they put us in a room with a mini-split heating unit on the wall whose door looked like it was going to fall off at any minute. We asked for a different room, and they not only accommodated us, they toom $50 off the bill. There’s a very nice bar & restaurant on site; the restaurant was pricey but nice, with reasonably good food, but the bar was outstanding, thanks to our bartender, Dani. She made PERFECT dry martinis and old fashioneds, created the hotel’s special cocktail menu as well as the restaurant’s wine list, which is real nice. If Dani is at the bar, make a stop & have a cocktail. She’s amazing!

Hotel's Favourite
This hotel is conviently located in downtown Wytheville. There are several restaurants close by and (2) brewerys one has good bar food. The hotel staff was excellent and very helpful. Everyone was friendly. You could tell that the people enjpyed working here and took pride in their hotel. Entire hotel was exceptionally clean. there is plenty of parking in back. rooms were large and well appointed. comfortable beds with lots of pillows. bathroom was large, very nice towels. show was nice with lots of hot water. the room had a refrigerator but no microwave which would have been a nice addition especially since the food at this hotel is below average. The hotel has a bar which people seemed to enjoy. The Hotel restaurant "Graze on Main" was a major disappointment. It is the top rated restaurant in Wytheville but the food was well below average. the "hot hotel breakfast" that was included should have been better considering that they have a full service restaurant. It is more of a continential type. It consisted of cold scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, cold ceral, bowl of fruit. so glad that I had stopped at the local Food City grocery store the night before. there are several food establishments across the street like the Moon Dog Brick Oven (pizza and beer on tap) and Skeeters world famous hotdogs. both places have good food. Skeeters has limited hours open for lunch only but the other restaurants were open most of the day. I will stay here again in the future as I do love the location and the lovely hotel & staff but will plan to eat elsewhere.

If consistency of courteous service and comfortable accommodation are graded, BW rates the A+. Our return (last was Oct '23) was highlighted by the staff's total guest focus and adapting to our multiple scheduling changes. Classic place with ample amenities. Already mapping out a return in Oct. '24.

We only stayed one night as we were traveling but it was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accommodating- I broke my fingernail and asked the front desk clerk for a bandaid but she gave me her own stash of nail glue and a bandaid- I don’t know her name but a big shout to her!! Danielle at the restaurant was terrific as was the food and service.

I stayed at this hotel on the way to and from home for Thanksgiving, so I had a chance to stay at two different rooms. The hotel was built in 1927 and has a lovely vintage feel. However, the rooms have been renovated and was clean and well furnished. The two issues: the first room I stayed in had a very noisy HVAC system. So noise to a point I would have asked for another room if it was not late at night. The second room was a lot better. The rooms had a larger than normal dorm sized refrigerators but was also noisy. The lobby area has some nice photos of the hotel in the early days. There is a small bar/restaurant (Graze on Main) that had a nice atmosphere and great food. Breakfast was ok with a full breakfast albeit a little thin. The town is charming and perfect for a stroll. I was traveling with our Maltese and they were very accommodating

My extended family & I have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the years. Alas, my most recent stay was abysmal. Because bedbugs are a concern for today's traveler & Bolling Wilson appeared on an online bedbug site, I made sure to do a check of the room. That's when I discovered that the room hadn't had a thorough cleaning in a very long time: thick dust & dried bugs & what appeared to be nail clippings! Yuck! Also the king bed sagged on both sides. And the room was plagued with loud noises from the lobby area. I wrote to the hotel's General Manager, but haven't received a reply to my complaint.

This is a reliably good, clean hotel. This was our third year staying here, and there was only one hiccup (no pun intended). I wanted to sit on the front porch to enjoy the beautiful evening. As soon as I sat down, a man came out from the hotel and asked me if I wanted anything to drink. I assumed he worked there at the hotel restaurant, but it quickly became clear that he was a patron of the hotel bar. He placed his glass of beer on the table where I was sitting, made some small talk, then proceeded to ask me if I had any cigarettes or spare cash. He was already quite inebriated, and I took the first chance I could to escape. Fortunately, the hotel also offered outdoor seating on their rooftop terrace, The Perch. The drunk man did not follow us.

All who follow herewith-- 1. Hotel is a classic throwback to the days of long gone (sigh) understated downtown elegance. BW structurally (literally) is a beacon of the bygone grappling with the WiFi world. Our room (409) was spacious, clean and comfortable. But 409 faced the Main Street in downtown. A nit for some but for others...ask for a room facing the back. You can always make up for it with a free for all guests visual 👍👍 from the fabled (earned) rooftop "Perch" bar. Off-season weekends only.) Major caveat/advisory: If you think a dinner at the in-house restaurant has the same classic, old style, grand hotel alignment...to be kind, not a chance. Graze by Main is a happening, noisy, sports bar-ish ersatz "fine dining" restaurant. Multiple website and ancillary reminders that the restaurant is not part of (see independent) tag yet the claim of disconnect bodes unwell. We opted to go elsewhere for dinner. Think about it. BW and Grave (elsewhere) on Main.
