The Commander's Beach House is the only bed and breakfast that is located right on the water in downtown Port Townsend. You can walk on the beach to Fort Worden or easily stroll three blocks along the water front to all of the downtown shops and restaurants. Three of our rooms face the water and have private baths. Our fourth room faces the garden and has a shared bath located inside of the room. You can enjoy views of Admiralty Inlet, Mt. Baker, Whidbey Island, all of the boats and ships that go into Seattle, as well as vintage wooden schooners and yawls. Eagles, herons, otters and seals are frequently seen by our guests. A full sit down gourmet breakfast is served at individual tables or on our veranda, weather permitting. Come fall asleep lulled by the sounds of the sea and "relax and solve nothing"!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent one night in this beautiful, comfortable Beach House. The room and bath were extremely comfortable, super clean, and supplied with every thing you might need. The breakfast was a delicious fresh home made meal. The location is superb, with the beach at the end of the lawn, and the downtown of Port Townsend just a few blocks away. The hosts, Gail and Jim are very friendly and available to answer any questions, but not intrusive. We were sorry we only had one night there.

Our short get away to Port Townsend was perfect. Places to walk, shop (if that is your thing) good places to eat! We went to kayak and get away from home. Both goals were accomplished. A Bed and Breakfast can be scary if the other folks at the B&B are over friendly, this was not a problem on this visit. The proprietors were interesting to talk to and very helpful.

My husband and I spent two wonderful nights at the Commander's Beach House. Jim and Gail (and Capt. Cutter) made us feel like welcome friends. Our room was lovely and comfortable--nothing like being lulled to sleep at night by the gentle sounds of ocean waves and the distant buoy bell! The lawn, beautiful flower garden, and comfy lawn chairs offer lounging at its finest. Breakfasts were delicious and beautiful. Gee, wish I were there right now!!

Quiet, comfortable, relaxing. Breathtaking views. Gail and Jim are the perfect hosts. Weather was kind enough to allow breakfast on the porch one morning. What a treat. Room was clean, very comfortable. Opted dfor the Island View room, even though the bath is down the hall. Well worth it. Easy walk to Victorian town with super restaurants. Whale watch cruise two minutes away. This stay was the high lint of our trip.

Two colleagues and I had a business meeting in Port Townsend. We stayed at the Commander's Beach House and LOVED the experience. The beds were so comfortable and the location/view of the water beautiful. Gail and Jim are wonderful hosts. They make sure their guests have whatever they need to be comfortable. They stop in to chat but will leave you alone if that is what you are looking for. We will be back!

What a wonderful find! Cape Cod on the West Coast. Lovely innkeepers, breathtaking view (get up early and cuddle on the porch @ sunrise), RELAX. Park you car, and saunter a couple blocks to town for anything you could wish. Play croquet oceanside on the expansive lawn. Grab a book, someone's hand, find peace. Breakfast is healthy gourmet. Coffee to a Seattlelite's lofty standards. Genuine, kind owners. The one and only problem during my stay? I had to leave. Otherwise I'd be writing this from the porch.

We've been coming to the Commander's Beach House for 10 years now and it's like coming home every time we visit. Gail and Jim are the perfect hosts always making sure you have everything you need and assist with recommendations for dining out. Breakfast is a real treat. Our favorite spot is sitting on the porch at night, visiting with other guests. The rooms are clean and comfy. Book a room and treat yourself to a most memorable experience.

Everything about this place was great! A walk through the marina to go downtown for dining. A walk out the door to the beach! We were so impressed with the gourmet breakfasts and the kindness of our hosts, Jim and Gail. We could hear the surf from our upstairs window. Our bedroom was clean and so comfortable. Beautiful flowers were blooming in the garden. We will be back. It was a vacation to remember.

We were so lucky to have found 2 rooms available for a last minute spring break getaway with our teenage daughter. Jim and Gail were the perfect hosts who treated us to a scrumptious breakfast of poached pears, salmon souffle, and delicious blueberry scones. Couldn't ask for anything better! The rooms were perfectly decorated, tremendously comfortable and quiet! Our daughter felt like a princess in her lovely, fluffy bed! How relaxing and what a treat to relax at the Commander's Beach House after a day of antique shopping and exploring all the other nifty shops in Port Townsend. We highly recommend this B&B; it was a wonderful experience! Linda and Peter in Kirkland

If you wish to find a relaxing, beautiful, cozy place to unwind from the wild world, this is it! The perfect weekend away. Our hosts were so friendly and kind. We enjoyed soaking up the sun on the beach just a few steps from the house. The breakfast was delicious! We have already booked another weekend. Thanks!
