Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the third time we have visited the Ben Lawers Hotel for an evening meal while on holiday in Scotland. It is in a really good location and the food has always been great. We decided to go back for the last evening of our holiday for the traditional scottish music session (held every second Friday of the month) - so glad we did, it was a really enjoyable evening.

We decided to eat here one evening as we were staying nearby. The menu was good, clearly setting out vegan and gluten free options. The food was tasty and portions generous. Prices were very reasonable. Staff were friendly and polite. If we visited the area again we would definitely eat here.

Our group of 5 adults and 2 canines really enjoyed our few days in this beautiful location. The proprietor and his well trained staff were most welcoming. The property is kept very clean and the accommodation is comfortable. The bar and dining room have a great ambience. There is a super choice of menu with daily specials. We enjoyed our meals so much our first night, we booked to eat in again the next two nights of our stay ! Vegetarians and vegans should find plenty of choice. There is good parking and dogs are very welcome. I will look forward to staying again, thank you very much Ben Lawers Hotel!

We had a fantastic stay at the hotel our rooms were very clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed setting out having an evening drink looking at the amazing views across the loch. The food was really good and we were well and courteously looked after by our host. We will definitely return.

Avoid at all costs. The worst customer service ever experienced. We got married locally at the weekend and 2 months ago booked a room for our friends to stay in. The next day they advised they didn’t need it. We had already been speaking to a lady at Ben Lawers Hotel regarding using their car park as we were originally planning on getting married at Old Lawers Village, she was helpful and advised that we may be able to use part of the farmers land next door for car parking. When our friends advised us they were not needing the room, we called up Ben Lawers Hotel and spoke to the same lady and advised we need to cancel the room and also won’t be requiring use of their car park as now had different plans. She said no problem and that was that. The night before the wedding we got a charge on our card of £150 from Ben Lawers Hotel. I called up and spoke to a gentleman (I believe this now to be Paul, the owner) and explained that we cancelled this room and I don’t understand why we have been charged. He advised all cancellations had to be put in writing and this is on our email confirmation and on their website… it’s not. Or if it is, it isn’t clear at all. Not that it being on the website even matters as this is invalid. All cancellation policies must be on written confirmations, which it is not. Just that you have to cancel 96 hours prior. We called 2 months prior. I advised I spoke to this lady and he said I would need to call back to speak to her the next day which I did. During the conversation she confirmed that the cancellation conversation did happen but miraculously can’t remember speaking about the room and she wasn’t authorised to cancel anything or refund anything. I asked for Paul to call us back who is authorised to do this, which he didn’t. I have just spoken to this lady now who told me that Paul advised he wouldn’t be calling me back as he dealt with it. Which he most definitely has not as they still have our £150 through their own fault they will not admit to. She then hung up on me. I have never once been rude or unreasonable speaking with these people and for them to hang up on a customer who they have just fleeced SCREAMS guilty conscience! We are now going through our bank to get this money back as I can’t even get through a phone call with these people without being hung up on. This could have been resolved a lot more amicably but the staff at Ben Lawers Hotel decided this was not to be. They changed their story multiple times, especially the lady we were speaking to. They honestly sound like they don’t have a clue about anything, including running their own business.

FOR ALL THAT READ THIS REVIEW This person at no stage tried to cancel the room until after we had taken full payment due to them not showing up on the day of check in which we are fully entitled to as stated in the cancellation policy We do how ever confirm that the lady did contact us about parking at the hotel also asking if the farmer would allow her to use the field for her guests to park in so she could get married on the bank of loch tay at the old lawers village but the shortly after called back to say that this would now not be required, At NO time did she in this conversation cancel the room booking and if she did she would of been asked to call back later when the person that deals with bookings was available. The story was not changed multiple times, it was very simple the room was not canceled and we took payment for that room as stated in the cancellation policy

Though the hotel is a little rough around the edges in part, the ambience, calm and overall vibe of this little gem, run by a very warm, friendly and hospitable landlord family, was an absolute pleasure to stay in. The food was good too with something for all preferences. Would definitely recommend.

We broke down ..in Killin' where we were recovered and re-started ...But on setting off from Killin we realised once our headlights were switched off - that our other lights had fused. . it was pitch black on likewise roads that were narrow - Thank God we made it to Ben lawers where the host tried his best to help/made phone calls for us ( we had no signal) and I just want to say how grateful we are that he helped, arranged another recovery truck etc.Thank you!!!!! Thank-you! Thank you! Best Regards from Anne and Jacob

You were more than welcome, its always nice to be nice and not leave a lady and child stranded in the middle of nowhere, we hope you made it home safely on the recovery lorry and your vehicle got sorted, by the way another recovery lorry turned up 15 minutes later to collect you, can't get one when you need one then 2 turn up lol

So much potential ruined by the landlord rude and sarcastic comments. The hotel and surroundings are beautiful. We went for a meal with friends. The food was okay. Maybe a smaller menu would allow the kitchen to produce meals to higher standard. I would never have written a review had it not been for Paul, who I assume is the landlord, being so rude. This was solely directed at our table. Other dinners were commenting on it. Maybe time to rethink career as has no social skills. The restaurant wasn’t very busy but service was very slow. It took 10 minutes for 4 pints to be served start to finish at the bar. That does not include waiting for the couple before us to get drinks. Paul was too busy make smart ass comments which were not even funny. These comments are what you normally associate with people with an inferiority complex who need to bring others down to make themself feel good. I will not go back which is real shame as think this place could be a gem. I have read similar complaints from others in the reviews and if you read Paul’s response to these you will get the picture. I don’t think he has the capacity to reflect and make changes to improve his customer service skills. You have to own it first and certainly does not!

Here is some more sarcasm for you, did you get paid to write this review or do you just talk rubbish in general If as you say i was so bad then walk out simple Other diners commenting i dint think so 10 minutes for 4 pints, the only reason for that is if it was the real ale then it was getting change and that takes time if you know about real ales As for the inferiority complex maybe you should look in the mirror, pot and kettle spring to mind As for the reviews take another look, the good out way the bad and as we all know must people will never say boo at the place they are complaining about on the review site
