Very friendly couple and lovely location. Clean and comfortable bed set off from the road, so no noise. Great little walk across the road and not far from boating club. Bus stop right outside and only 10 minutes to the center, so we left the car there (parking available) to avoid parking in town as it can be tricky. The...

We had a very nice experience at the Old Rectory during a weekend. We got upgraded to what I believe is their biggest room, which is incredibly nice and decorated in a classy, old style, and has a great balcony overlooking the front gardens. Breakfast was also very good, and overall the owners were very nice and welcoming to us....

You can tell everything about a place (beyond cleanliness, verisimilitude to photos) by how they treat problems - and The Old Rectory makes them vanish, restores calm with charm, genuine hospitality and go out of their way to make sure your stay (not their business) is easy. Just brilliant. And the vegetarian breakfast was perfect - the kind of quality...

Lovely warm welcome by the owner Chris who was very hospitable. Lovely charming building with little clean quaint rooms. We had the twin room over looking the pool and it had a lovely spacious bright bathroom. Breakfast is all locally sourced which is fantastic and this is given in detail on the menu. The cooked breakfast is more quality then...

When all you have as reference about rural UK is the Brit Coms, you sometimes wonder if the charm really does exist. I'm here to tell you that it absolutely does at The Old Rectory. The staff compliments the charm of the location and the facility. My travel agent fell in love with the REAL customer service of Chris as...

We really enjoy staying here for a number of reasons - owners Chris and Sally ensure a warm welcome to their hotel and they've built a well deserved reputation. The jewel in the crown is the food cooked by James - what a chef! We have never had a disappointing dinner there and single-handedly he produces some fabulous dishes with...

We found this little gem on the Internet, after communicating direct with the owners, we planned to celebrate my mother's 70th Birthday here with all the family. From the moment we arrived until our departure we were treated with the utmost care and attention and the food was exquisite ! Chef to be commended ! Drawing room with wood burner...

Five of us went for lunch. It was pre-ordered which can sometimes be disappointing. The restaurant was decorated beautifully, service (despite them being very busy) was excellent and the food very good. Outstanding.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory, Norwich's only AA 4* Gold 'Restaurant with Rooms' is a beautiful Georgian House, with adjoining Victorian Coach House, standing in an acre of mature secluded gardens on the eastern fringes of Norwich, overlooking the Yare valley and Thorpe Marshes nature reserve . We offer warm hospitality and friendly service in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Every morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked to order and served to your table. Our menu features local sausages, bacon, ham and eggs, Chef's own toasted muesli, thick yoghurt with home-made fruit compote, and thick cut toast. Our Dining Room is open Tuesday to Saturday evenings (closed Sunday / Monday), with a daily changing 2 AA Rosette menu featuring freshly prepared, locally sourced, seasonal produce. The elegant intimate, Georgian panelled room has just six tables so be sure to book dinner in advance as we regret we cannot guarantee availability of a table, nor a particular time, where dinner reservations have not been made prior to arrival. The Old Rectory is 2 miles from Norwich railway station (services to London, Cambridge, the Norfolk Coast and intermediate stations) and the city centre with its Norman Castle and Cathedral, medieval churches, excellent shopping facilities and open air market. Norwich International Airport (flights to Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and international flights via the KLM hub at Amsterdam Schipol) is 5 miles. The Norfolk Broads National Park and the sandy beaches of the east coast are a short drive, and many historic houses, nature reserves, gardens etc are within easy reach. ... more   less
