My son said Ciastel was the nicest place we have ever stayed. Our family chose one of the farm apartments; it was thoughtfully designed, was very comfortable, and best of all, had a lovely view from the living area windows and each bedroom window. We slept to the sound of distant cowbells. The half board option was a good value and was delicious, including a four course dinner prepared with food produced on the farm or the area, and a hearty and delicious homemade breakfast. Avni, our server, was delightful. Michael speaks English well and he was very willing answer any questions about our trip or the historic home that has been in the family for generations. He was available sometimes in person, and consistently through WhatsApp. The place was prettier than the pictures.
Tips: There is a bus stop not far down the hill from Ciastel, and St. Vigil is a short walk on the sidewalk along the highway, but a car was handy. We underestimated drive times to some of the "must see" hikes. Michael helped us some lovely hikes that were more accessible and less overcrowded. We were not disappointed.

Like in a fairy tale! I stayed for 3 days with my son in the Monte Sella apartment of the Ciastel residence. Apartment furnished in Tyrolean style, spacious, clean, equipped with all comforts and immersed in an oasis of peace slightly outside the center of San Vigilio (reachable on foot with a 15-minute walk). When you get there you fall in love! The main structure where the restaurant is also located is wonderful! The residence is located a few meters away and also has a small, well-kept spa. The ski slopes can be reached with a 10-minute walk. I advise!!!!

This restaurant was recommended to us by the owner of our holiday apartment, as it is only a 5-minute walk from the apartment. Whether it's a starter, main course or dessert: everything here is delicious. The coleslaw, the gnocchi filled with nettle ricotta and the various regional schnapps are particularly worth mentioning. All in all, a great evening with a great atmosphere and a very nice and accommodating hostess. We look forward to seeing you again!

We were at Ciastel in March and felt very comfortable. We were there very early on the day of arrival and were able to move into our apartment early in the morning. We received a very friendly welcome from the host and the staff. We felt very comfortable from the start. Great facilities, cozy breakfast room, everything very lovingly decorated. Great location, within walking distance to the ski area. We didn't lack anything. We will definitely come back. 👍👍👍👍👍

We visited with our whole family, 3 couples including two small children. Right from the start you feel home and welcome. The rooms are nicely decorated and include everything you might need from kitchen appliances till an extra bed hidden in the sofa.
Dinner is just amazing, with a fusion of classical Austrian tastes and Italian food each evening felt like a party combined with good wines and hospitality. The breakfast is complete with food coffee variations available.
You can reach the ski lifts with a 5-10 minutes walk and this area is great with good, new lifts - a big depot an sufficient facilities to have a drink and a snack after.
Summarizing it’s a great place at a great location ran by great people.

My friend and myself went to the Dolomites for mountain biking and haven't booked any accommodation in advance. We asked at Ciastel, because it is very nice located and luckily they had a room for 3 nights. The apartment was very new, the beds were incredible comfortable, they wellness area was big and very nice as well. We ate dinner for two nights and everything tasted outstanding! It was a great experience to stay this family owned castle. The family is very friendly and helpful, the prices are more than fair and the surroundings are amazing for hiking, mountain biking, or just relaxing. Thank you very much for making our stay to a pure joy!

The appartaments in the old Ciastel ( castle dated XXIV century restored a couples of years ago) are well organisez, even the smalls, and built and fornished with taste and first call materials. At the ground floor you can use for breakfast (option) and dinner he restaurant in the classic stube. there is a wellness for the guests avaiable in the other house ( 100 mt) the owners have, very nice after skying. We where here for a family holiday with a child that's 7 years old and the place is perfect, kids can play outside safely in the garden close by the house. I reco mend this place for family and even for couples because is really charming and cosy.

Don't miss this beautifully placed set of apartments on a historic site, in one of the quieter valleys in the Dolomites - especially the friendliness and helpfulness of the Baumgartner family. Fresh rolls daily, milk and eggs from their own small farm - and even a sauna on demand for those tired mountaineering muscles. In the Ciastel itself the family offers an excellent restaurant with fine dishes including produce from their own farm. A few minutes'walk or drive to the village centre of San Vigilio/Sankt Vigil/ Al Plan, with good shops and other facilities. This is the best holiday accommodation I have stayed in probably ever.

Good food but I was disappointed by the quantities, portions too small, the bull goulash was made up of 4 pieces of meat and that's not to say they were exactly 4 pieces, for 19 euros I expected a more generous portion. And the service wasn't the best either, they didn't bring the bread, the empty bottles weren't collected even though they had been reported.
