We visited Memel to get to know this little (and little-known!) place as we wanted to escape from Johannesburg to the "platteland" (countryside) for a weekend. We came there as city dwellers and left there as part of the Memel family. From the moment we stepped into the bar/reception/local gathering place, we received a hearty welcome. Chris and Audrey Martin...

We stayed in for a overnight stay on our way to Vosberg for the bullrun. When we arrived Chris was very welcoming and had a awesome stay, great food and pizzas. Thanks for putting up with the mpumalanga boys. Will definitely be back.

what a great place, especially the PUB AND THE OWNERS CHRIS & AUDREY. You will need a lot of travelling to find such a "nowhere place" we stayed in an east facing room {nothing fancy but adequate} there is a full on TV in the bar OPEN TILL LATE. some of the folk who came in were hilarious especially the...

The easygoing hospitality, warm fire in the pub in the evenings and great food make this hotel a great stopover. Coffee is good too. You won't find a TV in the bedroom which is a plus in my book. The Electric blanket is a far more practical appliance as it gets chilly.

If you want friendly service and feel at home you must have lunch at the Memel Hotel. Had the best pie, gravy and chips at the Memel Hotel. Staff is friendly and you feel at home. Bar area is small, but it makes the atmosphere cosy and warm.

It's been our first visit in nearly two years, but Memel Hotel still serves to prove why we prefer small town accommodation. Chris and Audrey, the owners, offer wonderful hospitable and friendly service, and go oit of their way to make guests feel at home. The pub's a great place to unwind and the food, on a surprisingly extensive menu,...

Stunning, simple but homely. Even kids and horses are wellcome inside the non smoking bar. It is situated in a small farming community and anyone passing through should stop by. From there you can travel East through lovely mountainous Maluti route. Gorgeous!

From the moment I walked in the door and asked if I could grab a breakfast I felt welcome. A friendly place with an open door to almost anyone who came past - more like a household lounge and kitchen than a Hotel. Great Omelette and fresh Coffee made for a good road stop. They offer information on local motorcycle...

I will definitely stay here again if I am in the area, the owners are super nice folks, the towns people are friendly, food was great, bed comfortable and warm, the rooms and bathrooms surpassed my expectations. The surrounding areas of Memel have some fantastic Adventure bike riding roads

On 25 March I was in Memel for work, and decided to have lunch at the hotel. It is a very unpretentious country hotel in a little Free State dorpie which has not yet become overly touristy. There are a few little shops which I have yet to explore. I had the beef burger with mushroom sauce and chips. The...
