Unique setting. Joyce and Phil were wonderful host and we wish we could have been when the weather was warmer and enjoy the outside as well.
We stayed December 30th and 31st of 2017. Joyce and Phil you were above and beyond.
We really enjoyed our 3-night stay here at the Gonstead Guest Cottage. Joyce and Phil are great hosts. We appreciated that they shared their knowledge of the area's attractions and restaurants with us. With an iPod full of music, some dvds to watch, and a...More

The cottage is not air conditioned but is wide open in the summer time with fully operational windows on all sides. The guest cottage is set in the middle of a landscaped block with huge overhangs and stone thermal mass to moderate temperature swings day to night. for about four months in the winter the windows do not operate because the windows are locked behind the screens. The locks are necessary in the winter to keep the copper seals engaged to eliminate the drafts. The windows are custom, field built, irregular shaped cypress framed casement windows with brass screens that can't be upgraded to modern convenience without destroying the original intent.
