I live on the East Coast and I recently planned a reunion with my daughter who lives on the West Coast. I had been to the Hideout before and loved it and decided to take my daughter along with me this time to share the experience. I am a fairly experienced intermediate horseback rider, my daughter has limited riding experience but is a real nature lover. We could not have had a more memorable time than our week together at the Hideout. The moment we arrived and were warmly met by Melanie (Office Manager/Contact person/ Question Answerer extraordinaire) our fabulous adventure began. Starting with horsemanship orientation to trail rides thru some the most spectacular scenery in America ending each day in our cozy cabins getting ready for the social/ cocktail hour followed by a practically gourmet dinner. Each day offered a new opportunity to explore the countryside on horseback or afoot or trap shoot or fly fish and even two opportunities to participate in a cattle drive. The wrangler staff were so personally involved and attentive to and with each rider on horseback and the kitchen staff so ready to attend to every guests needs and preferences and Chef Rachel...just unbelievable! Kudos to Owners Peter and Marijn for putting together a first class guest ranch experience. They are involved at every step of the days activities and are focused on making every guests experience memorable. The horses deserve a lot of credit, they are so well trained and schooled to every riders capabilities and get you safely and wonderfully thru each day. The entire ranch property is beautiful and so very well maintained and spotless. It's a great day if you just sit on the front porch of your cabin. My daughter and I both have beautiful memories of the Hideout Guest Ranch that will remain with us for the rest of our lives. I am grateful to have been able to share this experience with my daughter.…
As one of the past veterinarians for the United States Olympic Team, myself and my family are needless to say, horse people. We have taken riding holidays all over the world from Africa, NZ, Australia, Mongolia, Europe and more.... this was one of the most memorable and best trips ever. The absolute beauty of the area, authenticity of the owners, staff and wranglers and impeccable care for their horses mad this trip a "10". From fishing in rivers, skeet shooting (with a wrangler who trained Navy Seals!) to easy trail riding to challenging terrain moving cattle in a snow storm.... it was a trip full of lifetime memories. .... as lifelong horse folks- we really appreciated the wonderful condition of their remarkable herd and the facilities!
This is a very upscale dude ranch run by a European couple who have endeavored to make their guests as comfortable as possible, even in this time of the Coronavirus. The campus is first rate, the staff are experienced and well trained and the food excellent. To make the point here, one of our wranglers had recently exited the U.S. Marines as an officer; she graduated from the Naval Academy and was spending some time pursuing her passion for horses before going on with the rest of her life. My wife is not a confident rider. The wranglers quickly recognized this and attended to her fears so she could enjoy her experience. Meanwhile much more experienced riders were driving cattle. The scenery is spectacular. Many guests return year after year and we will now be two,of these as we are going back in 2022. Consult the ranch for all their activities as there are too many to concisely list here. …
Sixth time to the Hideout, excellent as always! There were a few changes at the ranch, due to Covid....meals outside, at nice tables, with large space heaters nearby. Guests must drive to trailheads, not in the trucks with the wranglers...there was a little confusion one morning concerning that, but it was quickly remedied. There are air purifiers in all large rooms at the lodge, and hand sanitizer in the common bathrooms, etc., but bring your own, plus wipes, just to be safe!! This place was sparkling clean before Covid, if anything, it's even more spotless now! Meals were wonderful-thanks Rachel!, Melanie in the office friendly as usual, all the wranglers were wonderful, as was Ramon, the new head wrangler/cattle boss. Of course Marijn and Peter were excellent hosts, and I loved riding with Marijn doing the cattle work Tuesday. My horses were also wonderful-Phil, a favorite QH I rode last year, Romeo, a beautiful QH, and the last 2 days I had Shoofly, a big gray Mustang, who was incredibly responsive and a blast to ride-had some great lopes on him! There were 17 guests the week we were there, a great smaller group. Thanks to the Hideout for another memorable vacation!!…
My niece and I are guests at the Hideout once a year in the fall. My niece rents the private house across the road from the ranch and it is divine. This ranch is professionally run, the staff is kind and courteous. They always wore masks, unless we were riding. Due to COVID, the cocktail hour was held outside with huge heaters and fires, rustic and cosy, plenty of space for safe distance. Dinner was served outside as well. The food is freshly prepared delicious. Different fresh menu every day. The horses are beautifully matched to suit their riders, and very well trained. The owners are very caring people who ride with the groups and bend over backwards to please. This is a 5 star ranch, you are a real cowboy here, with tons of support and help. We’re signed up for the next 3 years! I’m a horsewomen, 67 yrs young, and love every minute of our vacation.…
