My fiance and I had a great time at Hale Kai. The hosts were very helpful with directions and suggestions. I really enjoyed waking up my first day there seeing the sun rise over the ocean. This location is great, just a couple of miles outside of Hilo, overlooking the ocean, with surfers catching waves from sunrise to sunset down below. Owners, however, seem to find guests burdensome - polite but not friendly - lots of rules about staying out of their hair - aloha was barely present here. This spot is hidden just off the main road right on the waterfront, just minutes from downtown Hilo, Enjoy homemade gourmet breakfast in the morning while watching the whales spout in the water, while the surfers are up early in the morning catching a wave. Great place to stay - fun themed rooms - bright tropical colors - very inviting - great view and great breakfast off the veranda overlooking the surfers on the bay - can see whales too- Ric is a wonderful host and offers good advice on sightseeing

This was the first time that I ever stayed at a Bed and Breakfast. I was not sure what to expect. My best friend had recommended the B&B. I enjoyed it.
