We stayed here recently and loved it! Great people and a cat that makes sure you feel at home. Would stay here again and would recommend to friends. Walking distance to restaurants and the farmers market.

John Alexander and his staff are wonderful hosts. The room was perfectly equipped. It was so nice to have a small clean kitchen area and not need to constantly eat out. My husband unfortunately contracted a bad cold and infection on this vacation and they were very understanding when we had to check out early, not charging us for our...

Local to Hilo area, wonderful check-in experience with being shown to room and amenities of room & hotel. Local flowers located in room and lobby as well as growing all around hotel. No AC in room but wasn't needed when we stayed in Feb. Coffee, banana bread and fruit available in lobby. Room and bedding were comfortable.

Would not choose any other place in Hilo. Very clean. Extremely helpful and friendly. Owner John is there and super guy. Fresh fruit free for breakfast along with banana bread. Can't say enough nice things about this place Our third visit here.

If you are active, adventurous people this is the place to stay. They have a mini kitchen in the units. BIG shower space. The rooms are equipped with fans, no A/C...but you don't need it anyway. The rooms are just right and simple for on the go people. Open the windows and enjoy the fresh Hawaiian air. They serve banana...

We aren't very adventuresome and usually stay at chain hotels and, to be honest, chose Dolphin Bay because we didn't have many other options. What a pleasant surprise! Spacious, unique room and convenient location (short walk to downtown) but the best feature was the wonderful staff and the feeling that you were staying at the home of a friend, not...

Hilo is a vibrant historic town, on the lush side of the Big Island. Dolphin Bay offers large, clean, airy rooms with a small kitchen area, complete with apartment-sized refrigerator, stove, sink, dishes, pots & pans, and a table and chairs. There is a lovely tropical garden (or maybe it's a wild area!) adjacent, with trails to get up close...

2nd time stay after 14 years since the reviews indicated that not much has changed! Still the same delicious papayas, you-pick starfruit, personal hiking recommendations, cooler & beach towels as needed, nicely equipped kitchen in the rooms, good shower head, clean and very comfortable rooms. The Coqui frogs lull you to sleep (we skipped the ear plugs provided). We had...

We had a wonderful 4 nights stay in room 14 at the end of November. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Small kitchen had everything we needed. Tasty papaya and apple bananas available for guests were extra benefits, when coming back after sightseeing. Large umbrellas provided by hotel helped to deal with rain. John recommended a wonderful place for...

We booked this hotel because of its location, which is walking distance to downtown Hilo. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy but close to everything. We had never stayed there before because it is slightly above our usual budget, so I expected it to be nice. It is an old, dated property with none of the usual amentities we have...
