We landed here after an appalling experience at a rental beach house and found not just a place to stay, but also genuine care and comfort. This place isn't fancy, simply highly attuned to the welfare of guests. Room is clean and light, love the endless supply of fresh papayas! John and his staff know the island and share their...

A great welcome on arrival from fiendly (family?) staff. We had a comfortable suite, no AC but thro breeze and fans were fine. Good WiFi with an intriguing password! Plentiful fresh fruit from the tropical garden was freely available to the guests, wow do home grown papayas and bananas taste good! After Honolulu this was a great retreat away from...

Just out of Hilo. Walking distance to downtown. Comfortable room. NO AC, but both ceiling and wall fans make it perfectly comfortable. Everyone we dealt with from the owner to everyone at the desk could not have been more helpful. Expained the best places to go in Volcano National Park. Restaurant suggestions were right on as well. Off street parking...

I stepped back in time at the Dolphin Bay. The facilities are definitely mid-century, but rather than finding it dated, I found it charming, especially in comparison to the modern blandness of the resorts on the Kohala coast. The staff are friendly and helpful, like I always hope hotel staff will be (but hardly ever are), and the location is...

The coqui frogs are amazing. Assuming they are calling for mates, it was a little sad that by morning one lone frog was still singing, still looking for love. The Dolphin Bay is just like Hilo, sort of mom & pop, a little working class, but comforting and inviting and feels like home--the kind of home where the neighbor kids...

Visited this hotel based on the trip adviser comments. The staff and garden atmosphere make this a perfect getaway. It was a five minute walk to downtown but a secluded hotel that felt like you are in a rainforest. In the morning there is delicious coffee and pastries. The staff has picked guava, mango and banana for anyone to take....

This hotel is well located, clean and have friendly, knowledgeable staff. However, the facility is quite old and the rate is not cheap, especially when you come to Hawaii when promotional rates are offered by resort hotels on the west side. Also, the noise of coqui frog is quite loud and there is no air conditioning in the rooms. If...

We stumbled upon the Dolphin by accident as we were staying on the Kona side of the island and decided to get away from our boring big Sheraton hotel and take a road trip around the island. We stayed for one night and it was bliss, the room was large with a kitchen and ensuite, it was clean, just a...

After enjoying the resort side of the big island (Kona) the Hilo side and especially the Dolphin Bay was a perfect get away from it all. Located in a quite residential neighborhood the Dolphin Bay is tucked away in it's own garden setting. The room was clean the staff was friendly and very helpful, we couldn't have been more relaxed....

Clean & affordable place to stay. Was our base for visiting all corners of the Big Island. The staff was extremely helpful mapping out how to get to our destinations. Plan to stay there again next visit to the Big Island. Rubble (hotel cat) even visited us one morning.
