My friends and I had our second stay at one of the houses in the Chalet Kilauea properties. We rented 3 rooms for a week and shared a common kitchen and bathroom with people from all over the world. The house is situated on the grounds of a lovely rain forest type atmosphere and only a few minutes from Volcano...

Booked a night here to see the volcano and was surprised to find out we had to share a bathroom with 4 other rooms! It would not have been a problem if it was disclosed during booking, nobody likes to be surprised during a vacation! Nene room was tiny and had to wait for the bathroom everytime we needed it...

I have stayed at Volcano Hale and at Lokili Lodge and enjoyed them both. The facilities are excellent, clean and all sorts of amenities are available to travellers like myself and my family. This time I stayed with my two daughters and we had cooking available, but ate in Volcano, Pahoa and Hilo and Kona instead, due to our travels...

The shared bathroom was not a problem at all. The property (rooms, bathrooms, living room, kitchen) is very clean. You can also get an excellent and cheap breakfast before you start your busy day on the trals of the Park...The only remark is about the rooms: too small for travellers that are planning to spend 2 or more weeks in...

Aloha and Mahalo for reviewing Volcano Hale on Tripadvisor. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. While I agree that for some people, the rooms are not ideal for long term stays, however, we have many guests that do utilize the rooms for up to a month at a time. We do try our best...

What a great place! Fairly cheap but immaculate. Bathroom sharing was not and issue over our 3 night stay. We stayed in Lihua room- fairly small but adequate. Shared kitchen is very well equipped.... just bring along your coffee for the dripolator, and tea and other supplies. Cooking a meal was easy but we splurged and went to Volcano House...

Before I share my comments, it's worth noting that I stayed in the Lehua room of the Volcano Hale shared building which is just one part of Chalet Kilauea so be sure to find reviews that match whatever type of room you want as some are shared, others are not... That said, as someone who was looking to have a...

As a Chinese visiting scholar at UH, I was doing research on tradtional Chinese theatre in Hawaii, so I was excited to find four Peking Opera wooden idols in the living room on the middle floor when I stayed in the Room Kahili one night in March 2013, which has left me a briliant impression and sweet memory.

Loved staying here. We stayed in the Malia room. It had a nice size bed, very clean, nice bathroom (there were 3 rooms on this ground level but we rarely had to wait for bathroom usage and it still felt pretty private). Easy access to outside. I wish all our vacations had an option like this!

My stay in the Malia room was more than I could have ever hoped for. This was my home away from home while I spent the days and early evenings with family for the week. I was not to excited about sharing a bathroom with 3 other rooms but it turned out fine. There is a large living area and kitchen with 3 bedrooms. “Make sure you always lock your door when you're in your room-My fiance and I were walked in on twice while just hanging out in our room. The rooms are clearly marked, but people are nosy. It was a little unnerving. Just a doorhandle lock so I was a little worried about leaving some of our stuff in the room, but overall was a cozy little quiet place to stay the night. ”

“A fun experience renting a little room with bathroom next door. Great kitchen facilities in an old quaint and charming house. Very clean and quiet!!! Nicely decorated. Cozy too!! Easy to find and park. I would definitely stay again. Great little residential area too. Very clean bathroom and updated. Easy to find and parking is good. Large kitchen and room for friends at the large table. Great restaurants and three groceries nearby. Quick deli too at grocery nearby with fresh made sandwiches. Volcano park is a short drive away. We enjoyed our time in this little village very much and survived a storm warning with no problem. A great place to meet other travelers too. Thai restaurant up the street. If you cook inside the house you do need to clean up after yourself. There is a refrigerator that you can keep food cold while you're there. Nice grounds too. You will be surprised to see how beautiful the area is. We would definitely stay again. We checked in in one location and stayed in another. We felt safe and assured that all would go well. You will get a good rest here after a day and evening at the volcanic park. Such an amazing sight. Much more than black rock there as it's located in a beautiful tropical forest. You'll enjoy these nice home stays for sure. Friendly staff and very helpful. ”
