We recently stayed here (wife and two kids) for 7 nights on spring break and had a great stay. I have almost nothing "negative" to say about this resort but am going to give you some of the pros and cons because I think it depends on what you want in a resort. My personal

I have owned a Time Share at Hanalei Bay for several years. I always enjoy my stay there! The Resort is one of the Best in the world! It is beautifully appointed, totally relaxing, and it has so many different amenities which enhance the stay! The staff is sincere, warm,

We visited this lovely hotel & resort on a Sunday afternoon. A local musician invited us to listen to live jazz. This place is absolutely breathtaking. Just ordering a local cocktail, listening to live jazz, and taking in the sights made me feel like I'd died and gone to Heaven

Great resort with outstanding view of. Hanalei Bay. We loved the pool bar and music and Happy Talk Restaurant. Great snorkeling down hill and resort courtesy golf car back up hill. We will be back again next year.

I simply cannot rate this resort any higher. It has a magnificent location & the accommodations are nice. Our check in staff at the front desk were the most unwelcoming we have ever encountered. Not a hello, how are you?, or even a smile. There were no other guests waiting, so

Hi Andrea32813, we appreciate your honest feedback. We're disappointed to hear that you received anything less than an exceptional experience, and will use this as an opportunity to improve. We will be sure to monitor the hot tub area and will speak to our associates. We hope that you will give us another chance in the future.

The water is protected by a reef. The beach is actually at the Eastern tip of the bay. The proximity of the reef churns the coral, so the water is often murky. Additionally, the Hanalei River and several other fresh water streams carry sediment into the bay which can add to the murkiness. If you are staying at the resort or hotel, the snorkeling is very convenient as you can walk down to the beach. There are plenty of fish to look at and you will occasionally come across a sea turtle. Depending upon the tide, the water can get quite shallow in places, but you can snorkel in and around the breaks in the coral. If I was already driving to snorkel, I probably wouldn't bother coming all the way to this beach.

There are no hot tubs in the condos. There is a communal hot tub near the lagoon pool. If you want to rent a private unit (HBR is made up of timeshare units and privately owned condos) the largest is a 3 bedroom. If you go directly with renting through the 800 number, you might find a 2 bedroom unused timeshare for rent. This is not a hotel. There are no hotels on Kauai with private hot tubs.

You may want to check VRBO or Air BnB. There are some private owners who may have listed their properties for rent. Otherwise consider off season opportunities - the summer months fill up quickly.

There is no fee to play on the courts for an hour at a time. You can sign up at the tennis office. The courts are in good shape. A few years ago they were resurfaced with two being converted to artificial grass. The tennis pros and clinics and excellent.

Super Shuttle is an option but renting a car on the island is really a must. I recommend two companies to book a car. Discount Hawaii Car Rental and Costco Travel. The resort is an hour from the airport. Depending on the type of car will depend on the cost. I paid $225 for my last weekly trip. What you do is book on the site and keep checking closer to your stay for the price to go down and then rebook it. I prefer to book with Alamo and sign up for their awards program and the night before you pre check in and avoid the long lines by going directly to the car via the outside sales people. Do not accept them filling up your tank. There are gas stations within 5 minutes. Thats a rip off.
