This was our first visit to this B&B style hotel. Great location and primarily chose it due to proximity to our daughters North Beach apartment. We stayed one night in Room 209 which was very small but had an ensuite bathroom. If staying longer, definitely go with a bigger room if you plan to spend any time in your room....

We spent there 3 nights. It's a very cute hotel just few minutes by walk from Coit tower, Lombard street, Fisherman's wharf, Pier 39 and Chinatown. Breakfast delivered to your room every morning and complimentary wine and cheese in the evening. Friendly staff and next time we will stay in Washington square again. Highly recommended 👍

I love this place. Lost count of the amount of times I've stayed here now but it's still good and it's been more than a year since I was last here. It makes a lovely change from your big corporate hotel. They have daily wine& cheese hour which is a great way to relax and meet other guests (or just...

Great location - not far from the pier. Rooms not the biggest but the most character. Breakfast delivered to your room each day is wonderful. Lots of places to eat around and the cable car also stops close by too! Parking is close by and you get a discount form the hotel. When we return to San Francisco - we'll...

We stayed in a Junior suite. The accommodations were lovely. There was a very nice view out our window, especially the view at night. The place was exceptionally well maintained and clean. I have read reviews about the rooms being small, and that appeared to be the case for the standard rooms. The junior suite was certainly larger (not large...

Be careful of booking here and watch your credit card when you get home. We couldn't go. Agreement said we'd lose first night booking- ouch but understandable. But they billed our card for every night booked!

We have booked this hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is located close to the center og the City. Very good breakfast and friendly, helpfull staff. The Wine hour, for free, gave good opportuneties for socializing with other guests from many other countries. The only disadvantage was our very small room. We vere told to Call the hotel in advance...

There are so many restaurants in the area and you are just a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf . We were able to walk to Chinatown and the Union Square. We had room number one on the main floor and it is really spacious, but I understand that some of the other rooms are small. Breakfast is included as well...

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was by far the worst place we stayed during our tour of Cali. After a 20 hour journey we arrived exhausted at the hotel. On entering the building there were no signs for where reception was, and no one to greet us. After such a long journey with 5 suitcases/ bags to...

As I was on my own in San Francisco, I wanted to ensure that I was staying in a safe area with a hotel that had the personal touch, but that didn't break the bank. The Washington Square Inn ticked all these boxes, both on paper and in reality. I was a bit worried about being allocated a room with...

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
