Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was pretty bad experience. Only positive was that the staff was friendly and currently the parking is free —- the rest was just disappointing. The hotel is currently under construction. There was NO hot water in the bathroom, and only some of electrical sockets were working, apparently this was a general issue and not related to our room only. The hotel rooms TVs currently only has limited functionalities. In our room, the shower faucet did not have a handle. The hotel room door (not renovated) got stuck from the inside! In addition to this, contrary to what was explained in the booking.com, there is NO rooftop terrace, NO fitness centre and NO pool that are in use. Everything is under construction. Sure it will look ok in few months… but this is not helping us. The cherry at the top is that the hotel is NOT situated in a nice neighbourhood - there are drug users and the streets smell like urine. I am sure the hotel will look ok when everything is ready. However, for the next months it will look like a construction site, which is unfortunate because none of that was explained in the booking.com website. For this price (what we paid) we could have gotten much better value for our money and from a nicer area (financial district, for example). However, as we were staying only for 2 nights, it was not worth the trouble to change the place mid-stay.

I look forward to staying at this location again when the pool is in operation. The decor is adorable, very retro, has a wonderfully 50s vibe throughout the facility. Really also appreciate the staff's commitment to being as green as possible when it comes to services such as house keeping.

Do not come here anyway you risk buttons all over the body, and you risk infesting your own home with BED BUGS when you return. I stayed at this hotel in January for a business trip to San Francisco, and I came across these bed bugs in my bed. I realized it only the next day when I saw pimples appear all over my upper body. These creatures are horrible and contaminate all your suitcases. The hotel manager, Chris, promised me a refund of my nights, but today more than a month after my return I still have not received anything, and I was blocked on their phone. Flee this hotel, the staff is dishonest, they made me believe it was the first time, but they were all equipped with special cream for the bed bug pimples ... Dear Chris, if you read this message it is always time to refund me.

Stayed for 4 nights this past weekend - clean and bright - too bad the beds are only doubles but they are comfortable. Wild decor - 1960's colours and style but cool . . . good amenities including tazo tea, coffee maker, hairdryer and decent shampoo. They desperately need plug in points for electronics!!!!! Courtyard style building with outside entry to rooms. . . a bit noisy at night when people come back to their rooms but reasonable noise proofing between units. Small gym with bikes and treadmill. Located in a 'sketchy" area off market in SOMA, it is starting to be "gentrified" but you need to be aware of your surroundings when walking at night. All elevators are locked down (card access only) and the bar/coffee shop needs some attention. Staff were all very pleasant.

The building has been around for a few decades and is in constant need of renovation. Funky 1960s Mad Men decor but still functional. The good: location, prices. The less good: a bit run down and some of the rooms can be noisy.

Dear GlobetrottingSwede, Thank you very much for your review of our hotel. We are currently in the process of refreshing our hotel, by upgrading the flooring in all hallways and exterior corridors, as well as retiling our pool for the forthcoming Summer season, not to mention, we have added A/C units to most of our rooms, and all rooms will have an A/C unit before the Summer. We look forward to welcoming you back as our guest on your next visit to San Francisco! Best regards, Nick Haiyi Hotels | San Francisco for Best Western PLUS Americania Hotel

The "ups" were central location and low price ($90.00 per night on Priceline Express). One of the downs was parking was quoted when we arrived at $35.00 per night. If you become a Best Western Award Member (free) you pay $25.00 per night. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR BILL WHEN YOU LEAVE! The hotel billed bit of our rooms for parking when we only had ONE car! The rooms had two small double beds and were adequate (no microwave and no air conditioning, heat only). Another down was that we were on a courtyard and there was noise randomly all night long. It wasn't bad for me because I am a heavy sleeper, but it was hard on my wife. Also their pool was not operating. All of the workers were very friendly. In one of our rooms the hot water did not work in the shower.

Dear Greenvilledan, We certainly appreciate that you took the time to share your review about your recent stay with us. Regarding our parking charge, parking is certainly a challenge in San Francisco, as with every metropolitan city in the United States. We pride ourselves in offering parking at a value compared to that of our competitor hotels that charge in upwards of $59++ per night. We thank you again for your feedback and hope to welcome you back to San Francisco very soon. Best regards, Nick Haiyi Hotels | San Francisco for Best Western PLUS Americania Hotel

Location not included, I give this hotel 5 stars out of 5. Staff goes out of its way to make sure your stay is fantastic. Check in Friday and they still know your name on Sunday. When you walk in the door they say welcome back. The facility is very well kept for an older building. Retro 50's style but fun. Bright and clean furnishings and room decor is exceptional. I will always stay here when visiting the bay area. For me there is no other place. As of this writing they are planning some minor modifications so may affect some stays, but I am sure this will be a minor inconvenience. The hotel is close to great eating places, public transportation, local sights, ( am old and walked to Chinatown) and they are most accommodating when it comes to helping you find things. On the sour note of things, there is a restaurant that is attached that I was not impressed with AT ALL> .

So far entering the amazing Americania, we were greeted by friendly front desk. Victoria was amazing, helpful, and also provided additional information regarding where we should go and what we should see and also what to expect. My husband and I have been using Best Western for all our lodging needs for years and by far Victoria has made this Best Western an amazing experience. Keep it up. This is only the first 1/2 of our review considering we just arrived. We are are sure we will have a great stay here.

Hotel decor and architecture is beautiful, especially in an area infested with savage people roaming around downtown SF. Walls are thin, so one can hear people from all around. There was low water pressure in second floor shower. May be different for other rooms/floors. Staff (both front desk and house cleaning) is very efficient and nice. Located at walking distance from convention center, which is a plus. Did not use restaurant/breakfast, so cannot comment on that.
