Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great location - the countryside in the city - plus wonderful historical ambience. Nice amenities including the best continental hotel breakfast I've ever had (everything was fresh and a cut-above). And very clean. However the mattress felt like an original Army surplus cot. We had an uncomfortable night's sleep. This was quite surprising and disappointing considering how well the property excels in everything else.

Hotel's Favourite
I debated between the Lodge and the Inn and picked the Lodge because it had view rooms and an elevator. I picked a King with Bay View (and got room 219), and we had a fabulous view of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge (when it was not partially fogged in). For anyone debating between them, the Lodge has a historic exterior (like all of the Presidio buildings) but is very modern and spacious inside, including the rooms, which are large with high ceilings (at least on the second floor). It is closer to the bay, and it was windy and chilly in late June. When the wind blows just right you can hear the foghorn through the night. The Lodge is next to the highway so there’s also traffic noise with open windows and outdoors. It faces the expansive Main Parade lawn that has huge red movable chairs and is near the Presidio Visitor’s Center. The Inn is historic and cozy, does not have an elevator, has views of the redwood forest, and is quieter and smaller (20 rooms to the Lodge’s 40). It’s at the far end of the lawn away from the Visitor’s Center. Both have an outdoor gas firepit, but the one at the Inn has wooden chairs and is sheltered from the wind. Both have the same permit parking (you get a hang tag), but others can park in the lots, too. Because the Presidio was a base, be aware that a lot of the history and photographs on the walls depict military scenes and soldiers. Colibri Mexican Bistro is the only place to eat within walking distance, but it didn’t seem open when we were there. If you are looking to get away from crowds and bustle of the city, the Presidio fits the bill. And which hotel you choose depends on the experience you want, It may get busier with the newly opened Visitors Center and when the Tunnel Tops Park (play areas, walks, picnicking) open in mid-July 2022. We didn’t find much to do within walking distance. There is a bowling center with San Francisco prices. Other things we could have done like the Walt Disney Family Museum and the Andy Goldworthy sculptures had limited hours. So check times and days carefully during your planning. Either hotel is great if you have a car—parking is $10 per day in a parking lot. You can leave your car there and take the free Presidio Go shuttle around the Presidio or to downtown San Francisco. There are limited stops and rules. If you plan to use it, research the schedules and routes ahead of time. There is also a transit center for the Muni 43 Masonic line, plus bike sharing. We had limited time and found that post-pandemic traffic was light, and parking was not terrible, compared to previous visits so this visit we drove. At the Lodge, we loved the daily wine and cheese reception. There was plenty of wine and wrapped charcuterie and crackers that you could take outside or to your room. Breakfast had a lot of choices: oatmeal, boiled eggs, pastries, cereal, coffee, tea, orange juice and plenty of socially distanced seating in the dining room and other lobby rooms. To keep the electricity on in your room on, you need to put your room key in the slot. I forgot and left mine there and left the room. The front desk graciously gave me another key—all of the front desk and other staff were friendly and helpful.

I love this hotel and the new rebrand. They have thought of just about everything, It was one of the most comfortable beds and it is the perfect location for a morning run through the park and/or across the golden gate.

Wonderful hotel and outstanding staff. We needed to be close to the Veteran's Medical Center so this was close for an Uber ride. Our room (101) was so quiet and perfect for what we wanted. It is a wonderful respite from the noise of the city. We enjoyed all the interesting history of the area but in particular the art work inside the Lodge itself. The historical items of the original barracks was most interesting as well. The flower arrangements were outstanding and added a perfect touch to the common areas. Lovely stay!

Staff and amenities were superb. We had no complaints The Presidio setting is phenomenal. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. Everything was clean. We were there for a wedding and the venue was great--if a bit pricy.

Stayed as an early Valentine’s Day getaway gift from my sister. We enjoyed the hiking and running trails, evening wine and cheese reception, walking the Golden Gate Bridge and Lover’s Lane, and visiting the Palace of Fine Arts. Our room was modern and comfortable, the customer service was outstanding, and the surrounding vibrant energy of San Francisco made the stay worthwhile.

So much history and beautifully peaceful. So much to see and do, yet you could sit and do nothing and it would be fulfilling. Cozy, quaint, quiet & relaxing. A place you look forward to coming back to.

Quiet, safe and beautiful. This hotel is the perfect jumping off spot for many SF walks and adventures. The beds were incredibly comfortable with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The new tunnel top park is right across the road.

Fabulous stay, for the second time, at the Lodge at the Presidio. Beautiful + comfortable room! Wine + cheese, included in our stay, on the front porch was delightful and a great why to enjoy the main green. Lovely + helpful staff. Delicious breakfast in the morning with yummy fresh fruit. We also enjoyed the fire pit in the back while gazing at the Golden Gate Bridge. The lodge is in a great location near Tunnel Tops!! Wonderful stay!

Nice rooms, large rooms, elevators, newer hotel. Nice eating area and food options. Much better value for your money than staying at the Inn at the Presidio. The Inn is sub-par in so many ways, and there are a lot of stairs and NO ELEVATOR.
