We stayed at this hotel for four nights over New Years. When we checked in we were told we could wait for a higher room. Three hours later we were given a room on the 4th floor. When we complained we were told that was all they had. So much for a three hour wait. We were given drink coupons for the bar. We did not use them. The room was ok. It could use tlc, like cleaning spots on the rug. The bed was very comfortable. The bed was very high. The bathroom was clean, but did not have much counter space. We had no problem with the wifi. The elevator was not a problem except at check out time.. The best part of the hotel was the maid service. We would go out and come back in a couple hours and the room was cleaned. We prepaid the room and noticed those who did not got coupons for discount for food for places around the hotel

We liked the location and would stay again here again, but I would not prepay and would not believe we get a high floor if we waited.

Hi mykonos, thank you for your review. Typically, the reason for a longer wait when a guest requests a room change is that we're waiting for a the go-ahead from our housekeeping team. Our discount for the awesome breakfast place right around the corner from us is given to supposed to be given to all of our guests and I apologize you did not receive it. I do hope you'll consider staying with us again in the future.

Not a typical American style hotel (room is not spacious) but really cosy and interior was nice especially lift, reception, and bathroom with tiles floor, located within a several minutes walk from Powell station (direct access from SFO with BART). A receptionist was nice, and he explained a lot about nearby and famous tourist spots with not-recommended place to set foot.
No fridge and air conditioner in rooms but equipped with ceiling fans! Given its location (Macy's and nearby other shops, restaurants) , it is highly recommended for SF beginners. Hilton Union was just next door, from where some one-day tours depart, so the hotel is convenient in that meaning.

We stayed for 5 nights, with a rental car. The parking garage across the street was very convenient (I recommend parking yourself if you want to save some money) and the alley next to the hotel was a great little spot for us smokers to stay off the sidewalk and away from foot traffic.

The room was very clean and, while quaint, was plenty of space for what we needed. Some leaky faucets, but they quickly fixed that once we notified them. Every staff member we interacted with was courteous and happy to answer questions and seemed willing to help in any way. And, if you don't notice on the website, you *can* have a mini refrigerator delivered to your room upon request.

The Mason Diner next door was also a pleasant surprise; good food (particularly late night) and a comfortable atmosphere. There's also a CVS on the opposite side, which is handy if you forget toiletries or want some snacks.

We were in town for the Chinese New Year parade, which we were able to watch from right around the block. So, again, quite a convenient location for walking around to different places and just a block and change from the Powell/Mason cable car turnaround.

They don't offer food (only drinks; coffee/tea in the morning, booze at night), but unless you're on business, you don't want to eat hotel food in SF, anyway. Plus, the aforementioned Mason Diner is pretty good and you can get 20% off breakfast coupons from the front desk for a place right around the corner. (We never took advantage of it, but it was there as an option.)

On our last day, they happily stored our luggage for the day after we checked out, so we could take advantage of the time between checkout and our red eye flight back home.

I would love to visit again and I'd definitely stay at the King George again. It was genuinely a perfectly nice place for my tastes.

This British themed hotel is in a great location. It's minutes away from Union Square and Chinatown is also very close. It is right next to a CVS and is opposite a 24-hour diner. The in-room wifi isn't that strong which bothered me, but the rooms are decent and clean. The bed is very comfortable, there is good lighting in the bathrooms, the water is hot and the nightly room rate was very decent for central SF!

Everything was great. This was a last minute booking due to a power outage. Check-in was welcoming and smooth. Room, though small, was very well put together and very comfortable. Room was immaculate. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom, though compact, was pristine and comfortable and outstanding toiletries Closet was about 18 square feet with chest of drawers and lots of space to hang clothes or leave luggage. Excellent Wi-Fi reception. Good television. good reception, good desk and comfortable chair. Room centrally located to the heart of San Francisco and within 5 minutes of major transportation points. Lobby and bar area well designed and welcoming. Would gladly stay here again! A minor point - the boxspring/mattress was on a platform and just a bit too high.

I had a double room so the size was optimal, the room was clean and had enough space. I find the bathroom/shower too old and on the last day I couldn’t get a hot water running, which was very annoying. The staff was mostly very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a very nice solution if one doesn’t want to pay lots of money staying in the center of SF although I would prefer a bit more modern room, shower and facilities in general.
Have to say that I’ve asked to have a late check out and it was no problem to make it at 1 pm.

The King George Hotel was beyond amazing! Its location in Union Square is centrally located with easy access to other parts of the area. The hotel staff is super friendly and knowledgeable and the hotel itself has a quaint charm that is uniquely San Francisco. We loved it so much that we'll be staying at the King George the next time we visit San Francisco!

We chose this hotel because of the location for getting to the trolley, a Hop-on Hop-off tour stop, the local bus system, and the nearby BART system. For this it did not disappoint.
The price is reasonable, and the hotel was very clean, and the staff was very friendly.
From this, I digress.
The noise level during the nights, was that a very loud level. All from external. Sirens, music, loud cars and trucks going by, garbage trucks in the middle of the night, quite a bit of yelling, and the like. Normal ear plugs did not help. If you stay here, you will need some heavy duty ear plugs.
We get up earlier and the hotel lobby coffee was not ready ever before 7:00 a.m. there is coffee in the room, however if you need real creamer, you'll be out of luck until 7:00 approximately.
Not a terrible review, just want people to be aware.

The receptionist and bellman was so kind, and the security is very safe as they must ask, what is your reservation .I felt super safe and the rooms had a Nespresso machine for coffee or tea. I also loved the shower with a bathtub connected. It made me think of the older victorian homes.

On the plus side, the hotel is very close to Union Square and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful and were happy to recommend local bars/restaurants and the lobby/bar area it very nice and modern. But the rooms seemed more dated and in need of renovation.

We were initially put in a room that had a heavy smell of smoke and the safe didn't work. After talking to reception, we were moved to a different room which fixed these issues. The room itself was fine but there were issues with the bathroom. The shower head position couldn't be moved so, even with the shower curtain, water ended up on the floor after every shower. The wallpaper in the bathroom was also peeling off in the corner and had mould under it so there was a bit of a smell too.

The elevator is small and very slow and quite often there is a queue for the elevator as there is only one.

It's also worth mentioning that we left the sign on the door asking for the room to be cleaned/for new towels (because we had to use them clean up the water in the bathroom). But the room was never cleaned. On the 3rd day, we caught the cleaner to ask for the room to be cleaned. She told us that we needed to leave her a tip in the room before she would clean the room! I reckon this is why the room wasn't cleaned before which I think is appalling considering it is their job. Twice we had to ask reception for fresh towels which we shouldn't have had to do.

I wouldn't stay here again if ever in San Francisco unless the rooms were renovated as the negatives outweighed the positives for us.

I dont think unless there are rooms on the ground floor which i didnt notice tbh this hotel would be suitable and even if there are rooms they may be small and compact. The lift is small and usually a bit of a wait and our room was tiny in comparison to other hotels we stayed in during our trip, its a old hotel and as based on the UK i would recommend trying a more USA type hotel, which are all much more disabled friendly.
