Taking the train from Penn Station in NYC left us just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Though our room was smallish, it was a model of efficient design, clean and pleasant, and the staff were as friendly as I want a staff to be. Other pluses include the Back Bay location, a few blocks from Boston's lovely Public...

We flew up to Boston to spend time in the city and visit old friends, and booked one night here and the next night with our friends. Many high points: great location, very unique decor, not your everyday chain hotel. Sure the rooms are small, but it didn't really bother us. Nice touches: Surround sound system in the room that...

I stayed at the Charlesmark for one night, as I was doing some research at Harvard. The price was the best available (I paid $169.00 on Orbitz) and the location, as others have said, can't be beat--right on Boylston Street, across from Library and one-two blocks from Copley Place and other shopping. 1/2 block from the T stop. I agree...

I had high expectations of the Charlesmark based on the tripadvisor reviews, and that the hotel had promised "a great room" when I told them we were in Boston to celebrate a birthday. What we got was very different. On checking in, the member of staff seemed annoyed that we had disturbed his TV viewing in the bar. The only...

I found the hotel on the Internet and definaltiy sounded what we were after. We weren't dissappointed. The hotel was more than what we expected for the price and the location ws fantastic. The hotel rooms were very cosey and boutique. The breakfast was well worth waiting for after a long journey and the bagels were very tasty. The unlimited...

I am writing this while sadly waiting to leave for the airport. We have had a lovely time in Boston and found that the hotel and lounge lived upto previous reviews left here. Yes the rooms are compact but they have everything you need, including free bottled water everyday. Jefferson, the lounge manager, really makes you feel welcome, and the...

My husband and I stayed at the Charlesmark Hotel for one night in July 07. The hotel is in a great location and can be described as a trendy boutique place. We got a good deal on Expedia and didn't expect a lot of the hotel and everything was as expected when we checked in. Rooms - the rooms are...

The Charlesmark defines what a boutique hotel should be. The hotel is small but quaint. The rooms are average to small yet perfectly comfortable. Euro styled bathroom, no tub, but the nicest shower I was ever in. The rooms are tastefully decorated, modest and clean. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Direct TV and terrific sound system throughout the room. Efficient...

Spent one night at the Charlesmark. Positives: Excellent location in the Back Bay area of Boston, one block off of Newbury St and good shopping. Service was good, with a modest but adequate continental breakfast (bagels, muffins, apples and bananas,) ,included in the rate. The bathroom ws small but nicely tiled. They allowed us an early check-in, with the room...

This is a great hotel in the center of Boston. Rooms are a bit small, but fully equipped. Newbury Street is right behind the hotel, and all other things worth seeing (ie. Freedom Trail) are within walking distance. We parked our car at Boston Commons for $10 a day. It's a short walk to the hotel and you can unload...

Staying in Back Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
