submitted by a trip advisor member from los angeles, ca: we were completely thrilled with our recent spring break visit to the 1871 house. while we used to stay at the regency, this time we were travelling with our 7 year-old girl and our babysitter, and needed something more affordable. the upper east side neighborhood can't be beat, the managers...

If you are healthy and like to walk in great neighborhoods and be close to both busy taxi routes and subways, this is the place for you. Don't stay here if you are expecting an American-style hotel experience. It's a long walk up to the suite, but it's worth it. The only problem we had was that once or twice...

The 1871 House is a delightful B&B in Upper Eastside NYC. Our 1st floor room was quite large, much better than NYC hotel rooms in the same price range, with a kitchenette and working fireplace. Although breakfast wasn't included, the neighborhood offered opportunity to eat out or purchase fresh pastry for leisurely breakfasts in your room. And you need not...

Our stay in NYC was made even more fantastic because of where we stayed. The 1871 House is exactly what we had hoped it would be-- the perfect upper east side location, small, wonderfully appointed with everything you would need- so comfortable and very charming. We needed an apartment style situation that could accomodate 5 adults. The 1871 House was...

Our stay at the 1871 House in New York City was a very pleasant one. We were there for Medical reasons. The staff went out of there way to make our stay a very comfortable and pleasant one. If you need something they will do there best to take care of it. Our suite was very nicely furnished. We stayed...

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
