With the Marlton Hotel, located in the heart of Greenwich Village, comes the latest vision of Hotelier Sean MacPherson. This elegantly restored landmark building was formerly a home to famous artistic figures of the Bohemian and Beat movements, ‘most notably Jack Kerouac’. MacPherson redesigned the property by combining the original architecture with updated French influences for a look inspired by Paris and Greenwich Village history. This “baby grand” hotel guest rooms are charmingly petite yet grand in décor. Guest rooms feature herringbone wood floors, brass fixtures, crown moldings, and marble bathrooms. The ground floor of the property features a 100-seat restaurant with a coffee bar.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ridiculously tiny rooms, lacking basic amenities due to space. Good location in Greenwich Village but lots of noise and no view. Pristine bedding on a tiny ‘double’ but other elements of the room are worn. Curtains frayed and stained. Complimentary breakfast is very poor both in choice and quality. Front desk at check in, were polite but somewhat apologetic regarding the room size. These rooms were originally designed for single person occupancy and it shows. When laying in bed like ‘canned sardines’ both my husband and I could easily touch the walls either side of the bed, absolutely ridiculous! Greed reins at The Marlton. Old style TV, no streaming and minimal channels. So many better options around in New York.

We loved it! We stayed for a week at Thanksgiving and our room was impeccably clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel is so charming! I really do disagree with several of the reviews as we found it to be a great stay and a perfect location for us. Yes there is construction nearby (like a lot of NYC) so you may want to ask for a quiet room and bring earplugs if you want to sleep late on a weekday. We will definitely stay there again!

A "supervisor" that refused to give his name was incredibly rude over the phone whilst I was trying to make a reservation. I'd stay away and check out the surrounding hotels in the area. Maybe the Soho Grand or Washington Square.

The staff were rude. We sat down for breakfast and it took forever to get served. The room was extremely small. Hard to walk around the bed. The beds were uncomfortable. It was hard to control room temperature. We left an item behind. Called the front desk and they acted like they couldn’t be bothered.

Would return in a heartbeat! Such a cozy and well-designed hotel. Loved the amenities and the staff was pleasant and responsive. Great location for many types of travelers. The room was snug, clean, and charming. We definitely enjoyed the common areas for cocktails and conversation. Put it on your list for sure!

Such potential, but misses the mark completely with service. A beautiful building, with no service to match. As a hotel guest, you feel almost lesser than the people coming in off the street to flood the lobby. No professionalism from staff, struggling up front stairs with heavy suitcases whilst doorman watched, aloof staff, not a welcoming feeling at all. The pillows were absolutely horrific, folded to a pancake at the slightest touch, zero comfort. We knew the rooms would be small, but barely room for a suitcase to fit and then have to climb over it the whole stay to get to the bed, not at all practical. It’s such a shame, as hotel is located superbly close to train stations and parks, easy to get around, but the lack of true professionalism and hospitality really let the Marlton down. Has potential to be great, but needs a service overhaul ASAP.

This was my 2nd time staying at The Marlton with my husband. 7 days sleeping there and we left feeling like we were leaving home. The staff was very nice and attentive. The rooms are small and we had big luggage but we unpacked and hung everything in the closet, and hid the suitcases under the bed. Walked everyday to washington square park which is only a block away. Even though its a very old hotel, everything is very clean and functioning. Very nice atmosphere and great experience. Love it here. 100% recommended!

I thought I had a great location between the East and West Village. And a block from Washington Square. But when I went out for coffee at 730 on Sunday morning I was overwhelmed with not just homeless people (who I'm incredibly sympathetic to) but to obvious tranq and/or fentanyl users. I counted 30 in three blocks. Acting in a threatening way. Rooms are small but fine. Newspapers and coffee available at 7am. But the construction site next door is a non-starter unless you will be out all day. Room vibrates and noise is so much you can't clearly talk.

Dark and dingey. Feels like a student hostel with every seat in lobby taken up all day by students studying or hanging around. One lift, had to wait literally 10 minutes to get down one time. Dangerous balustrade where you wait for lift. Only about 3ft high with drop down to the basement, definitely not safe for children.

I liked this hotel very much. Yes the rooms are teeny. but stylish. The public spaces are delightful. The lobby, with plenty of cozy seating, the morning papers and very good coffee is a throw back to a time when people lingered a bit. Super central Village location (in a part of Manhattan with very few hotels). The breakfast offerings were excellent and the service exceptionally cheerful and warm. I found the entire staff to be welcoming, accommodating and without attitude. I would stay again.
