My family and I stayed at this older hotel in May 2018. Our experience was not a good one. We had $500 stolen by the staff. We had decided to pay for one of the tooms with cash on the last day. The hotel said this did nit happen. They have CCTV at the front desk, but they said

This is the best location if you are going to the Lincoln center. In winter you get the best deals but NY is too cold during winter months. Having stayed there several years back I see great improvements in this hotel. The staff are very nice and helpful.

The Standard King Room at The Empire Hotel
We stayed at the hotel in Aug. 2018. The main Lobby was just being finished (marble floor). You would be better off calling the Front Desk yourself to ask them specifically if there is any major floor halls/room renovations going on. Sometimes on the Hotel Website they state if the pool is being repaired....

There is no security deposit. They have your credit card for any incidental charges.
