We had an apartment in the Upper West Side for many years. Now as visitors we were looking to stay somewhere close to the jazz clubs, shopping and restaurants in the Village. The Washington Square Hotel is a wonderful property. Rich in history, clean, nicely appointed rooms, and courteous service! The bar was fabulous also. We will definitely be back!

We couldn't have been more delighted. The room was small and no great view but... we didn't come to NYC to hang out in the room. It''S a completely refurbished 100-year old property. Crisp, clean and with an ever so helpful smiling staff. If you love to walk you won't find a better location to explore Greenwich Village or walk...

Our room was roomy for an older city hotel, and had been nicely modernized. The lobby and commons areas are small but have a warm, traditional feel, The staff was friendly and helpful. Free wifi was good. Parking is available one block away for about $50 per night. Easy walk to Washington Square Park, and lots of little dining spots...

Stayed in Room 608 for 1 night. First visit. Clean, typical size for NYC, no view (not a surprise), but comfortable and relatively quiet (thanks in large part to the neighborhood). Washington Square neighborhood itself is quaint and almost cozy. Enjoyed the free continental breakfast. Will come back.

Free breakfast was a value. Rooms differ in quality, som needs an update. Friendly staff. Location perfect, close to subway and good Soho restaurants. We will come back for sure. The Washington Square nearby is filled with people and music.

Rooms are roomy and nice but for the price the lobby and common areas need to be redone and cleaned up. Also check in was not on time. Front doorman is very nice and helpful. Qverpriced. Some hotel guests looked very seedy.

I love staying here for the convenience to NYU, the Village, subway, etc., but the bonus is that they have the friendliest staff and I always feel at home here. Will always stay here if my visit is predominantly centered south of midtown.

This was our second time staying at the WSq Hotel and both were simply wonderful. The staff is gracious and ready to help but remember this is a smaller property so there aren't 10 check-in staff like a Hilton! If you want a more relaxed, simple approach in this area of the city you can't go wrong. We had a...

My wife and I stay here just about every year. We like the location and the small but nice included breakfast. However rooms have always been odd sized, with typical small bathrooms. This year the person at the front desk told us our room was ready to check in but if we waited an hour we'd get a better room....

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
