The Carlyle defines the old-school elegance that has been lost throughout the years. Restaurant is phenomenal....Bemelman's Bar is the PERFECT place to end a New York day. We had a suite with a small kitchenette....felt as though we had our own beautiful apartment in the middle of the UES. Cafe Boulud is less than 1/2 toward Central Park and Zittomer's,...

This is as good as it gets. Quietly elegant, dignified, and discreet. The hotel is the epitome of comfort, no cavernous spaces and every seat is inviting. The rooms are modern, stylish and handsomely appointed. The staff is impeccable, attentive and not the least bit solicitous. Bemelmans Bar is a classic - one if the best spots for lunch there...

Every year or two, my wife and I travel to NYC to visit my brother. In 2005, we stayed at the Carlyle. It was wonderful. After that, we began staying in so-called luxury hotels in mid-town (my brother and his family live in Murray Hill). After a series of relative disappointments, we returned to a suite at the Carlyle for...

We did not stay here but have made dinner reservation for New Year's Eve. Our experience here was like a dream. Everything, starting with ambient, service and of course food was just perfect. It was the small things and responses to our requests that made this Occassion memorable . We enquired about moving to the bar after dinner service, and...

This is a truly lovely hotel. The location is perfect: close to Central Park and within walking distance of shopping areas and museums like MoMa, yet quiet and out of the hustle and bustle. The staff are polite and helpful but not intrusive, and the whole place is luxurious without over-doing it. Food is nicely prepared and breakfast in particular...

We have stayed many times at the Carlyle and each visit is always memorable. Giovanni and his entire team do a marvelous job and their attention to detail is what makes The Carlyle stand apart from the rest. Our recent stay was to celebrate a birthday and anniversary and the staff was terrific, as always. We had dinner in the...

A very special hotel in Manhattan. Old world charm and courtesy with very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was quite small but very clean and comfortable. The cocktail bar is a very atmospheric place to have a drink although we could not get in on the first night at 6.00pm because it was packed. The restaurant is expensive but...

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
