My new wife and I came here as part of our honeymoon. Growing up as a boy my favourite and still favourite film is Zulu. It has been a long time dream of mine to visit Rorkes Drift and the battlefields of isawanda. The hotel is situated right on the buffalo river and only a 10min walk from the battle... More

Not to be confused with the RD Lodge, which is about 10km away, this place is located right on the money at Rorke's Drift itself. The road to the hotel is not paved once you turn off the R68 but is easily passable with care in any vehicle. The place is new, finished to a high standard and serves very... More

The Rorkes Drift Hotel could not situated better. When you stand on the balcony that runs along one side of the main building you are actually looking down on the drift. Even better, borrow the key from reception and make your way down to the banks of the Buffalo river where you can open the gate and actually stand alongside... More

Situated on a bend on the Buffalo River this hotel is in the form of two circular buildings in traditional style. The main one contains the bar, dining room and sitting area, the second seven bedrooms, some with balconies with fine views looking over the river. There was a table d'hote menu for dinner with minimum choice but well cooked... More

The location is perfect for those who are interested in the battlefield sites. The hotel itself is tastefully furnished in a more traditional sense. The bedrooms views are amazing with balconies overlooking the beautiful buffalo river. You really are in the middle of nowhere here. The surrounding gardens were a picture of colour with a decent size pool to cool... More

On the basis of a number of previous trip advisor comments on Rorke's Drift Hotel, I selected this as our base for a 3 day Battlefields visit. I could not have chosen more wisely! What a beautiful setting it is. The river view rooms offered a super view of the Buffalo river and beyond. Simply furnished but with everything you... More

Although this hotel was only built in 2011 it has been designed and furnished in a traditional way. Paul is a mind of information on the area and of the battle sites. The original Rorke's Drift across the Buffalo River is in the grounds of the Hotel and the battle site is a short drive away (you can also walk... More

Stopped over for one night on the way to Johannesburg from Umhlanga, superb location overlooking the drift and the Buffalo River. Only 1km away from the Rorke's Drift battle museum. Wonderful accommodation, well presented rooms with a river view. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, we spent time with Paul who besides looking after the Hotel is also a battlefield guide. Evening... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At Rorke's Drift on the Buffalo River the new Rorke’s Drift Hotel stands the slopes of Shiyane Mountain (The Oscarberg), in the rolling hills of Zululand. The historic crossing that gives the area its name is within its grounds and the comfortable modern facilities are priced to meet the needs of the discerning traveller. The visitor will enjoy peaceful relaxation in the rural landscape, surrounded by iconic history and natural countryside. Phase One of the construction is now complete with 7 double and four single en-suite rooms. Phase Two will raise the capacity to 30 rooms so that coach touring parties can be accommodated, for the recommended two night stay. The hotel provides an affordable destination at this historic location. Visitors will be stunned by its position overlooking the Buffalo River and with its open views towards Isandlwana, and by its architectural design that is a modern amalgam of Zulu and Victorian cultures. ... more   less
