The Hill Club is an exclusive members only Club, established in 1876, by the British Planters and continues as a prestigious club in Nuwara Eliya, which is surrounded by Tea Estates. With the British Planters moving out, The Hill Club remained and still remains a Members ONLY club after having opened it doors to Srilankans. To sustain the Club and to maintain same, the Club was opened to temporary members ( Tourist) Traditions are still maintained where Gentleman is required to wear Suit for Dinner and a lady smartly dressed.

We very much enjoyed our dinner at the Hill Club. Nuwara Eliya didn’t seem to offer much choice in terms of eating out. All the restaurants which come up top of TripAdvisor are all in the same vast hotel called the Grand and are mostly buffets. We were looking for something a

We spent 2 nights at the Hill Club as part of our 2 week trip through Sri Lanka. It was quite a unique experience of a by-gone era, which, hopefully, will remain in the past. The service was excellent, as was for the whole of Sri Lanka. The Club had immaculate grounds,

The hotel looks quite impressive as you you drive up. The staff are great and helped with all of our questions. We ate in the “casual” restaurant the first night as we arrived quite late. I didn’t fancy borrowing the required jacket and tie required to eat or drink in the formal

We really enjoyed two nights in the Hill Club experiencing life from a bygone era. Old fashioned glamour, antique furniture, large rooms, various nooks & crannies, reading rooms.. beautifully groomed grounds ..the Hill Club has it all. Yes you dress for dinner (jackets & ties

We had read about the Hill Club in advance, but still we were amazed at this institution, like a blast from the past. We were upgraded to the South Suite, which was absolutely wonderful and big as an apartment with lots of windows. Then we had tea with scones in the garden which

Hi Do I have to be a member to use your restaurant and other facilities? Thanks
Hi, we used the restaurant recently and didn’t have to be a member. You will need a jacket and tie though to eat there. They will provide them but they are a little crumpled and limited sizes available.

Hi Tom, My partner hates 'dressing' up....does the dress code mean suit and tie? Many thanks.
Jacket and Tie are compulsory as per the Rules of the Club. Jackets, Ties and sometimes even Shirts and shoes could be borrowed free of cost...!! It is worth the experience...!!

Hi Simon, Your son who is 8 years old could eat in the Formal Dinning Room and does not need to wear a tie, but in smart attire, with shoes. The town is just 5 Minuets walk from the Hill Club and the weather is very pleasant to walk...and should avoid tuck tucks if possible.

1. Yes 2. Yes (but it is very patchy) 3. In the dining room and Mixed Bar (but not in the Common Bar, Reading Room or elsewhere It is a great place but the management is poor and as I said in my review, I think they have something of an identity problem - are they a fusty old club (wanting to impose regulations) or a business serving their paying customers (and therefore allowing some free reign) ...don't take a three piece suit. If you can manage any old jacket and tie (that you can dump afterwards) that's sufficient. They don't care how it looks!!!!
