Having been acquainted with NOLA for a long time due to many Mardi Gras and Southern Decadence visits, I had never stayed at the Hotel Villa Convento until my recent return. It is located in a quieter part of the Quarter, which is a great thing since, once you're done being a hooligan, one tends to want a peaceful night's...

We spent two nights here at the end of May for our 10 year anniversary. I wanted to like the place: the price was right, the location and the staff were friendly. However, there were just too many things that went wrong, and both my husband and I wished we had stayed elsewhere. We stayed in room 102, which was...

My mother and I stayed here 2 nights at the end of May for her birthday (June 1st). This hotel is very old and dated, however the staff was extremely nice and hospitable. We were upgraded to a balcony room no extra charge. Location was good, quiet. When in New Orleans, we really only need a place to sleep. Not...

The only good thing this place has going for it is Ms. Barbra she is a delight. The hotel is run down, no air conditioning in the Hotel, you do have air conditioning in your room. The place needs a good cleaning and repairs. I hope the Owners will work on this place.

We enjoyed this place for its great location, and it's charm and character. It is right in French quarter but not noisy, with a delightful courtyard in the middle. The rooms were clean with great showers but is not the hilton, the staff were really helpful. Yes it is a bit tired, needs paint etc but they are working on...

I have stayed at Villa Convento about 4 times over the past 15 years. It used to be a clean quaint simple place that was a good value. Now it has fallen into serious disrepair and is not clean. After arrival, we walked up dirty carpeted stair that had an area of crushed crackers on a few steps. 5 days...

My wife and I stayed there last September and we are headed back this year. We even booked the same room. There is a mystique you feel when you walk in the door. The rooms are simple and elegant. I like the old feel of the place and the price is amazing. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away...

My now husband and I stayed here 4 nights last week while in the quarter to get married. We enjoyed the convenience to the quarter and Frenchmen's street and the lovely view over the roof tops. The receptionists (all of them) could not have been more helpful or kind. This is not a place that you would stay if you...

Hotel is not like your usual modern Best Western or Marriott. Everything is a bit old and tired but it is all clean. It is also in a very convenient and quiet location. Another reason to stay here is one receptionist, Barbara. She will try her best to make your stay comfortable. My husband and I found the mattress to...

We stayed at the Villa Convento for what turned out to be ten wonderful days in February, 2014. The hotel is small and charming with lots of character and sense of place and history--which is exactly what we were looking for in our New Orleans stay. Yes, the elevator is old and slow. Yes, the place is careworn and has...

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
