We had received a recommendation from a friend to stay here, so I booked a king suite for three nights. The lodge itself is in a spectacular setting with limited views of Sylvan Lake. Here is where the hotel misses the mark. The front office people were pretty curt and just not that friendly. Turns out the lodge was closing...

Lovely drive winding up to the Needles Eye, we saw visitors coming down a hiking trail & decided to go! It was an absolutely gorgeous day and the trail challenging, but fun. The views were incredible. Hunger set in so we turned in to Sylvan Lake Lodge for lunch. Service was impeccable! Our two toddler grandchildren were treated royally. In...

Clean rooms, friendly staff, and a beautiful view. The lodge restaurant had speedy and courteous staff, and although a little under-staffed, brought us our orders quickly and correctly. We would definitely stay here again.

This was our first time to visit this park and lodge. The staff was friendly and the views are impressive. There are walking trails down to the lake and along the ridge. If only in the area for one night, we recommend arriving as close to check-in as possible. This will give you plenty of time to explore the lodge,...

It is rustic. I knew that when I booked a lodge room. I was delighted that I could get a room at all having tried for years for a last minute cancellation on an impulse trip to the Hills during high season. I stayed in the oldest part of the lodge. The room was small and on the top floor....

After visiting Mt Rushmore and before going to see the Crazy Horse Monument, took a slight detour to the Sylvan Lake Lodge for lunch. Great setting up in the mountains with a wonderful dining room including a large stone fireplace. I started with the Tomato Basil Soup followed by the Reuben sandwich. Both were excellent. My wife had the classic...

My husband and I have always loved coming here but this time we definitely noticed it needs some TLC. We were there after Labor Day so all the college students who usually work there were gone. The staff that was there appeared overworked. Our bathroom was nice enough with two sinks and a good shower. We liked our balcony. We...

We had a two bed room with balcony. The fabrics are dated and somewhat musty but the view was nice and the room adequate for our stay. We were gone most of the day only to return at evening to shower and to go to bed. The bulbs in the lamps were of low wattage so the room was darker...

I would recommend it. Cute, old hotel with all the old lodge charm - huge stone fireplace, great outdoor deck, majesty of Sylvan Lake. Restaurant and bar on site with good food and drinks. I've stayed at a lot of national and state park lodges- they are usually not updated. Sylvan Lake was nice but I will say for $175/night...

Had a great trip through the Black Hills. Custer State Park is amazing. The Wildlife Loop a great ride. The Needles highway wonderful. The park is A+. Then there's this place. Dated would be kind. The mattress was definitely 20th century. The towels were anything but fluffy. The room was cramped and due to the way it was arranged, one's...
