We spent 3 nights in unit 6, with a bedroom and separate sleeping area in the open space living room with kitchen and refrigerator. The cabin was immaculate and the beds were excellent with soft linens. This unit is next to the highway but sits back from the road and we never heard any traffic noise plus we were able... More

I'm so glad I took a chance on this lodge. I visit the Black Hills about once a year and normally stay in a hotel, but I wanted a kitchen and deck this trip. My cabin had both those things, along with a wonderful view, so I had a very enjoyable spot for morning coffee and evening wine! This was... More

After staying one night at Calamity Peak we enjoyed ourselves so much we decided to stay another. Joe and Lori were awesome hosts, so helpful and accommodating of our three small dogs. The cabin was so cozy and the sheets and bed heavenly! We enjoyed having the kitchen and the barbecue. Easy to drive around to see incredibly beautiful sights... More

We stayed twice during our ten days in South Dakota. The first time was in Room #9 which is upstairs in the owner's home. This room has a king size bed and is very large with a porch to sit outside and drink coffee in the mornings. The second time we stayed in Room 1A on the motel side of... More

From the moment of check in throughout our 5 night stay the hosts couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Our cabin, #9 was a delight! A log cabin feel, with beautiful pine paneling, spacious....everything one would need. Its proximity to park and town is a plus. Should I find myself in the area again, Calamity Peak Lodge would be... More

We stayed at Calamity Peak Lodge on our first visit to South Dakota in September 2016. This family run motel is located near the west entrance to Custer State Park. Owners, Joe and Lori gave tips on sightseeing and restaurants. The rooms at the lodge are as described. We stayed in units 2 and 3 (with full kitchen), each unit... More

This place is a short drive out of downtown but the nice quiet room was appreciated. Central to many of the attractions in the Custer area. No continental breakfast available. We stayed in # 9, room was nice but bathroom area could use an update. Overall good value for the price, I would stay here again.

Another yr another great visit. Again in unit 7. Since last yr all outlets have been upgraded to 3 prong and shower was retiled. Each unit is different some with kitchens and some with just microwave. So look at website before booking. Back to unit 7, it does have about 30 steps so not for someone that has trouble stairs.... We have wanted to stay at Calamity Peak Lodge after driving by for years. We were not disappointed. We stayed with family and had 3 rooms. Each was clean and well appointed. The rooms are small, but really perfect for this kind of stay. You really feel like you are away from it all. There is a great gathering place... More

Our 2nd visit there! It is beautiful, peaceful, quiet, clean and so much fun. There are so many attractions close by, Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, Deadwood, Rapid City and many more. It's a great getaway and the owners, Joe and Lori are the nicest people you ever met! We've known them for years! Go stay there and... More
