If you’re seeking “the comforts of home” (A/C, ceiling fans, spacious rooms, parking out front) then you might consider staying home! But if “old time elegance” is your priority, you’ve come to the right spot! With lakefront views, dining right on the lake, and staff that goes above and beyond to be hospitable, this place shines! Most of the staff speaks fluent English; it’s a family-owned business that likes to treat their guests as part of the family. We were greeted by one of the sons (Vincent) who lived stateside long enough to speak impeccable English. He is the face of the business we encountered most frequently. The dining is quite eloquent! Don’t plan to buy any wine by the glass; it is only sold by the bottle and most bottles are at least €50. The food (taste and presentation) is most often superb. We dined there three of our four nights and two of them were outstanding. (The other night we ordered the schnitzel, which might not be their forte!). The sea bass is absolutely outstanding, as is the Parmesan soup! If you’re really lucky, you will get Darko as your waiter!! He speaks perfect English, is extremely accommodating, and SO charming. He asked where we were from; when we said San Antonio, he said “Go Spurs”!! Who would have guessed that from a waiter in Austria? Seems Tony Parker’s French connection carries more weight than one might imagine!! It was very apparent that they genuinely care about whether or not you loved your meal; each waiter is trained to notice if you did not completely clean your plate and to ask if it was okay (unlike many restaurants). There is a grassy lounge area for sunbathing, and a whole park dedicated to children’s play. Perfect area for biking/hiking! The only downsides for these accommodations would be 1) the distance you have to walk your dog to the “dog area”. It’s quite a haul, and if it’s inclement weather or the middle of the night, it’s a bit of an inconvenience. 2) The lack of sufficient nearby parking; they do have a parking lot, but it’s pretty difficult to turn a parking lot built to accommodate VW bugs in the 60’s into spaces that will now accommodate modern size vehicles. That creates a different kind of problem; once you secure a space close by, you are much less likely to go anywhere to see the sights for fear of losing your parking place and having to park considerably farther away which could be a real issue if you will be loading your car to leave the next day. Considering the age of the establishment, they have done a nice job of modernizing it with newer bathroom fixtures. Since they can’t do much about the parking situation, I really only have one recommendation, which would be to provide some directional signage in English. The ads for the hotel showed an indoor pool and a sauna, which we never saw. I suspect those features might be part of either a “sister-hotel” situation, or an agreement they’ve struck with a neighboring hotel - since we didn’t see either of those amenities during our four-day stay. Signage in English might have provided some guidance as to where to find those amenities, as well as to inform us of the paddle board lessons a ½ block away and nearby boat rentals. Overall, this was a very good choice for us! The area has lots of dining options, and the views (whether you hike the Alps or stay at ground level) are outstanding. We would definitely return to the See Villa!! Lodging and Dining probably both a little on the extravagant side for families with children, but there's plenty for kids to enjoy.…
This place is unique. Hotel in historic building, owned by the same Family since opening in 19th century. Magnificent views, directly on the waterfront of one of the most beautiful lakes in Carinthia. Fantastic cousine, eating outside on the terrace is pure magic. Great selection of wines. The staff is very helpful and super nice. Owners very caring. Best place to explore top places in Carinthia, for all kind of activities.
Italian flair in this family owned hotel. an amazing experience! exceptional food and very good wines from the family vineyard! kindness of the guests and personal: feeling of being at home. splendid views on the lake from the room!
Had a truly fantastic lakeside lunch at this classic Hotel. Food, wine, and super service (Thank you Darko), even though we arrived at the last minute, It`s hard to find these factors combined these days. Faultless.
We spent new year's eve at this hotel and the family running the hotel did everything to ensure our needs were met! Highly recommended to stay here. Try the cuisine - it is truly marvelous. And as the Sauna is right by the lake you can jump into it right after :)
