Detailed Reviews
This is our third visit to Hotel Strass for a week of skiiing (package). The hotel is comfortably situated near the Penkenbahn, Only 100 meters walk. Our room was situated in the back, that's good to avoid the rumours from the streets. The room is somewhat outdated but acceptable for us. The beds ware made up every day.The hotel staff is very friendly, including the waiters and waitresses and others. Breakfast is good. The 5 dinner is OK. The austrian soap are moderate. Not so tasty as I am used to. As in a lot of hotels with lots of guests, the staff wants to serve all course in a row, But if you ask for a 5 or 10 minute break they will wait and stay friendly, good! Haven't experienced the spa. Live music from Boris is nice and sometimes people dance.
If you come to ski, don't forget to go with the freeguide Stocky (planned tree times a week). Great frienldy guy and knows all the good places!

Another great week in the hotel Stsrass. I had my two adult sons for their first visit. We had two double rooms in the front of the main hotel with balcony overlooking Main street The rooms were large and spotless
As per usual the food Staff and facilities were excellent
The highlight of the week was the complimentary days skiing with Stocky which is provided by the hotel
Thanks to all in the Strass

Stayed at this hotel as part of a group of 21.
Approx an hour transfer from Innsbruck airport which was ideal. Arrived early but no issue with leaving luggage until rooms were ready.
Clean and tidy everywhere, helpful and friendly staff, breakfast and evening meals were amazing (5 courses), however in comparison the childrens meals were disappointing (just a basic main not even a dessert)
Perfectly located next to Penkenbahn and only a 7/8 minute walk to the Ahornbahn.
We had balcony room above the ice bar, which naturally is loud however, like clockwork 10pm it was off.
Boot room was handy to store ski stuff, €1.10 per day for a locker, however it was very busy at times and very hot in all your ski gear.
The only negative I would have is that on our first day it was my daughter's 18th birthday. We bought a cake to celebrate after the evening meal as you do and were told we couldn't have it. We moved out into the bar area, sung happy birthday and again was told no we are not allowed to eat the cake, no reasoning, just no, yet the next day a couple of lads left the bar, went over the road to the Spar shop came back with sandwiches and ate them at the bar, go figure🤔
Anyhow, great hotel, great location, would easily stay again

I will start on the positive, location, very convenient to the main lift and town.
However for goodness sake bring suitable clothing for the dining area, ie no comfortable lounge trousers allowed, although most individuals were wearing sports tops / baseball caps / dirty trainers or boots. I was told most abruptly by a member of the waiting staff, that I had to leave the dining area, because I was wearing lounge trousers. (Super dry trousers and a plain jumper with slip on canvas shoes) This was very embarrassing as he approached me whilst I was at the salad bar. As a result I had to talk to Management to rectify the situation. Apparently the Hotel are trying to spruce up their image by enforcing a dress code; would have been nice to have known that in advance!! Hopefully the Hotel have learnt from this incident and spare a future guest from humiliation.

Have been to Mayrhofen 5 times and first time at the Strass Hotel. Quite disappointed being next to the Penken lift is a positive and the staff in the dining room lovely but that's the end of the positive post. For a four star hotel the bedroom was not up to standard and so hot too hot and had to leave the patio door open through the night so then we heard the rowdy apres ski at 2 and 3 am so sleeping was an issue. The dining room is so big and noisy with lots of groups and food was not what we have had elsewhere. Breakfast basic and it wasn't until the last day we found out that you could have an omelette or fried eggs made to order. Dinner was poor at first but got a little better but the sheer size of the dining rooms it felt like a massive canteen but the staff were lovely. The public areas are not what you expect from a traditional Austrian hotel - just functional. There is a lack of information at checking in re spa and keys for the ski room locker even time to check out of room.
We have stayed at the Neuhaus and Zillertallerhof and for us so much better. If you want big and noisy next to the lift its fine if you want traditional Austrian and quality look elsewhere.

Dear rosea58, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are an international hotel with more than 200 rooms in the middle of the centre of Mayrhofen. We don't have influence on the behavior of the guest on the street. All of the clients receive an envolpe with all of the house information. I am happy to read that you enjoyed aspects of Sport & Spa Hotel Strass as hospitality. We wish you all the best. Sunny winter wishes from Mayrhofen Sport & Spa Hotel Strass Management

Stayed at the Sporthotel Strass as part of a package with Crystal Ski. We were booked in the Sport part of the hotel, some rooms have been refurbished but our room hadn't, but this is because we had requested a bath through our travel company. Our room was on the 2nd floor above reception. The room was a great size which included a seating area, a single bed and big wardrobes for storage. The Hotel could do with updating their pillows as they are flat as a pancake, we did request some extra ones but these were just as soft. The balcony was great, we could see the mountains, the Penken Gondolas going up and down and it got the afternoon sun. On the 1st night the room was really hot and had to open the window, unfortunately there was a lot of noise coming from the Ice Bar and the street, so we had to close it again, which meant a very disturbed sleep on our 1st night, it got better as the week went on. The Spa area is great, there is a clothed area with a Swimming Pool, Whirlpool area, Sauna and Steam Room. There is a very nude area downstairs with lots of different saunas etc which is mainly used by men. Please be aware you need to a pay a deposit for your dressing gowns at reception on arrival.
Breakfast was fine, plenty of choice although missing Pancakes or Waffles as an option (have had this at previous hotels). We were staying on a half board package so evening meals we included. Evening meals are okay if a little fancy, at previous hotels we have had themed buffet nights (Local, Italian, BBQ) but Hotel Strass doesn't do this, there is a Salad Buffet, then 3 different options as a main and 1 choice for dessert. We didn't fancy anything from the menu on the last night so went out to one of the local restaurants. Our server (a lovely dark haired girl from England) was very helpful and always had a smile on her face.
There is a boot room in the basement of the hotel, there is lockers for Skis and Snowboards, and plenty of room on the racks heating up boots. The boot room can be quite crowded and hot at peak times, The hotel is just a short walk from the Penken gondala and the Ahorn Mountain is a 10 minute walk or you can hop onto the town buses if you don't fancy the walk.
Possibly coming back to Mayrhofen next year. Would stay at Sporthotel Strass again as the Staff are fab, they couldn't do enough for you, in the centre of town and close to the main gondola station. But would maybe request a room at the back of the hotel or on a higher floor as these would be quieter.

The location is smack bang in the middle of Mayrhofen. 50 meters to the Ski gondola. The main street in front of the hotel is super busy with shops, bars and restaurants. I was worried maybe the room will be very noisy. Check in was easy and reception were friendly. I was however surprised after asking for a bucket of ice for our champagne was a surprise to the reception.
We arrived at our room 203 which was a delightful surprise. Spacious, nice interior, fantastic walk in bathroom shower and a private balcony. I was really surprised just how quite the room and balcony was considering how much action goes on in front of the hotel. The rooms on the lefthand side of the Hotel are the best. Sun hits the room and balcony around 0900 and you also have the sun till late in the evening (October). What a delight. A friendly gentleman also delivered our ice bucket just after arriving in the room. Great service.
The wellness area was fantastic. Housekeeping forgot our bathrobes in the room but the friendly spa lady (young with brown hair) was fantastic in organizing the robes even though housekeeping was finished for the day around 2000. The hotel has a great Wellness area with whirlpool, swimming pool, fantastic sauna, steam room, infrared room and a few other services which we did not use.
Breakfast was great with friendly waiters.
All in all very good value and we would both go back again.
The only other little negative point is check out is at 1000 which I think is a little early.
Big thanks to the hotel for a wonderful stay:-))))

We stayed at the Sporthotel Strass for our annual skiing holiday. The hotel is very handy for the Penken lift - no more than a 100 yards walk. The skibus for the Ahorn leaves from outside. The railway station is s ten minute walk away (or you can get a skibus) so you can use the narrow gauge train to visit some of the other towns/slopes in the valley.
As noted in some other comments, there are various grades of room and others have been very dissatisfied with the cheaper rooms. There are several buildings and I believe the Sporthotel Strass is more expensive with higher quality rooms than the other buildings (e.g. the hotel strass and the garni strass). When booking, be clear what building you are being offered as the price determines the quality of room. Our room was in the Sporthotel and it was clean and comfortable with all four BBC channels in bedrooms.
There is swimming pool and family sauna with a seperate wellness centre. The wellness centre is amazing with 3 saunas, 3 steam rooms, its own pool and relaxation lounge. The hotel's labeling of the wellness area as a nudist area is a bit strange as swimming costumes are generally not allowed in Austrian saunas and steam rooms so don't be put off by the label as people wear bathrobes apart from when going into the wet areas. The attendant will explain the Austrian etiquette to first time users - you must sit or lie on a towel in the sauna (so skin never touches the wooden bench) and no towels allowed in the steam rooms. It is well worth a visit and ideal for recuperation after a day up the mountains.
Meals were good at the Sporthotel with exceptional waiting staff. Breakfasts had lots of choice and the five course evening meals were very good (although none of the soups we had over the 7 days were not to my taste). There is a vegetarian option for the main course but it is worth noting that, as the hotel website says, "Due to the preparation process, special allergens and intolerances cannot be catered for."
The town of Mayrhofen is another bonus with more facilities (clothes shops, toy shops, etc.) than many ski resorts.

I am tempted to say this was terrible but upgrading to poor based on the spa center (which I now believe has an extra charge). We stayed in the rooms across the skywalk, which is part of the same hotel. However, from arrival, we were threated like second class guests. We were told not to use main reception as it is completely separate hotel (yet we used the spa, their bar for breakfast, and its the same building). The reception on our side was simply a chair and tiny desk just thown in a hall, which never had anyone sitting there, just had a phone number to call. We booked a twin room and got a double bed with two single mattresses which could not be parted. We arrived after 10pm and there was not so much as a bottle of water or any food when we arrived. A plate of cold meat, fruit or bread would have been basic.
The breakfast was served in the bar of the hotel Strass - I can only describe it as terrible. The coffee was tar, and the food was worse than what I would imagine you could get in prison. Despite it being included, we opted to go out for breakfast. I imagine the first class in the main building had a better breakfast in the dining room.
The room itself was in a very noisy location and the door to balcony had a poor lock. Bathroom was falling apart and this whole place has not seen attention is over 10years.
Cleaners were supposed to come in daily to do basics even if card was not on the door. I left a towel on the floor to replace and it took 3 days. Despite being there for 1 week, only got towel replaced ONCE.
Pillow and bedding was terrible, once you put your head on the pillow it was thin as a shirt, got a second one and doubled up it was still the same.
The only thing positive about this whole experience was the location and the spa

+1
We have just returned from our summer holiday and thoroughly enjoyed everything Sporthotel Strass and Mayrhofen had to offer. We have been visiting Mayrhofen for several years and always return to the Strass. The hotel has everything you need, perfect for both summer and winter holidays.
Parts of the hotel have recently undergone renovation and the new rooms are beautiful upgrade. Modern and chic but still retaining the classic Alpine features. Rooms are well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, a safe, plenty of wardrobe and storage space (ideal for winter sports) and large bathrooms with accessible walk in showers.
The staff at the hotel all spoke good English and their friendliness and professionalism really sets them apart.
The food on offer is really outstanding. We never grew tired of the abundant breakfast buffet and always looked forward to our dinners. The three course dinner menu is well thought out with a variety of dishes catering to meat and fish eaters and vegetarians, with something new each night. The dishes are executed perfectly with great attention to detail - a real five star dining experience. We love the salad buffet too and even the napkins are folded in a different way each night!
The spa is also top tier. Clean, spacious and luxurious with a variety of treatments on offer. We’d often spend our day in and out of the spa, lounging in the sun in the beautiful hotel gardens on sun loungers and enjoying an afternoon snack from the spa bar. I’d really recommend the salt bath - perfect for achey muscles. I’d also recommend a facial treatment. Other perks of the hotel are guided walks during summer, DJ and music nights, apres ski partying during winter and a big, open lobby perfect for post-diner aperitifs.
Really no better hotel for winter too as it’s suited right next to the gondola and provides music and apres entertainment every night! They know how to put on a party.
These are only a handful of reasons we always return to Hotel Strass. We look forward to our next trip!

The rooms in the Sporthotel were completely renovated in 2021, and are pretty amazing. It's also directly above the restaurant, spa, gym, pool, etc, so you have less distance to travel.
We've already booked for next year!
