Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After a day of sightseeing in the Salzkammergut region, the greatest feeling was walking my sore feet into my room at Hotel Kendler. I have absolutely no regrets staying here, and I fervently recommend this hotel.

The hotel is is optimally located in the centre of town -- very close to the St Gilgen bus terminal and just a 5-minute walk to the beach! Rooms are impeccably clean and cozy. I had a double room with a veranda and one of my favourite things to do was lounge on the couch as a way to wind down for the night. Sometimes during the day, I didn't even want to leave the room either! That's what I mean by home away from home.

Included in the booking is a free Wolfgangsee card. I didn't know this and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw an email. The owners had taken care of everything on my behalf. They really care about hospitality.

You honestly can't go wrong with Hotel Kendler. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!

We stayed 7 days at the Kendler hotel at St. Gilgen in May. The hotel is very well appointed with nice facilities and pleasant staff. Our room was spacious and recently renovated with an extended balcony. The breakfast was satisfactory with a wide variety of fresh fruit, cereals, jams, bakery, yogurt, etc.
The situation of the hotel was ideal in the central of the picturesque village and only a 2 minute walk from the lake.
They were many eating places nearby. Parking was limited outside the hotel but there was a free parking area for the hotel residents nearby.

The hotel is lovely, design just gorgeous, room adequate size, no fridge or ice FYI. It can be a busy area with some noise (delivery truck, people dining late outdoors) but we liked the central location and church bells. Did not feel very welcomed however, from the start of a lack of smile and almost an eyeroll at check in to being moved in the dining area. I value warmth and welcoming along with the accommodations, and this only did well in the accommodations area. Would not stay again.

Bedroom was clean and modern. Breakfast was quite good. Lack of aircon was unfortunate but at least they could have had electric fans to offer (they didn't and were unfriendly when asked about it). Service generally was unfriendly from first check in to final check out. In particular, we weren't impressed with the lady in charge in the morning who clearly saw her job as being less about 'serving' and more about 'policing' guests who might be tempted to take a bread roll to add to their picnic - one such couple near us got a final verbal warning to make sure they didn't do so. A single smile during our 24 hour stay could have worked wonders for this review

As a family we have spent many holidays in St. Gilgen, most of them at the Gasthof Kendler. Right in the heart of the village, this hotel offers spacious and comfortable rooms. We were pleasantly surprised at the high standard of the refurbishment since the pandemic. But above all, Mr. and Mrs. Kendler welcomed us back with grace and kindness. The food was excellent and varied, catering for carnivores and vegetarians.
We will certainly be back.

We are currently staying in the hotel for last 3 days. The position is excellent, just walking distance to the lake. It’s very clean and not noisy at all. Breakfast is much better than most Eurpean hotels. People are quite nice. It’s very easy to use public transportation to travel to other areas of Wolfgangsee. I would recommend this hotel in St Gilgen

I enjoyed a fantastic stay at this hotel during the Easter holidays. The location in the center was great and the room with a spacious balcony was the perfect place to relax. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast offered a diverse selection that suited my preferences. I will definitely be happy to come back!

Charming hotel in old city center. Great location, comfortable rooms, good restaurant and delicious breakfast! Thankfully they had an elevator so we didn’t have to shlep our luggage up two flights of stairs. Nice terrace for drinks if the weather is good.

Large and quiet rooms, good location, very attentive and friendly manager. Vending machine for drinks and snacks in the hallway. The room was well equipped, a small fridge in the room would have been desirable. St. Gilgen is a good place as a starting point for various excursions.
