On their recommendation, I booked a skiing trip for both of us in late February 2020.
Myself and my wife stayed at the Hotel Neue Post for a week in late Feb ‘20.
This is a charming Hotel (as is the town) in the centre of Zell am See.
We were fortunate to have stayed in a refurbished room with balcony. We were very impressed with the room size, comfort and particularly the bathroom facilities.
Staff throughout the Hotel couldn’t have provided better service. Very courteous and attentive.
A wide variety of hot and cold fare was provided at Breakfast. Something to suit all tastes and dietary requirements.
Our young bar lady was particularly good at making our favourite cocktails and engaging in topical conversation. Despite her protests, her command of English was very impressive.
The Wellness centre is a must.
I have been skiing at various locations throughout Austria for the past twenty five years. Not all great but never that bad either.
However, this Hotel is a gem.
Continue the good work guys and our very best regards to all, for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable.
Slan leat until next time...
It has seen it’s hey days and needs to revamp.
Positive : great location , friendly restaurant staff , big spa area , nice outdoor bar area, very hands on & involved owners
Negative : bad value for money ( I didn’t enjoy the stay for the price I paid)
(I have checked out to another hotel with half the price and better amenities )
not enough amenities provided in the bathroom - I had to ask for slipper / shower cap and shaving kit which was provided by reception. the least I expect is body lotion in the bathroom.the bathroom only had a shower gel / shampoo (2 in 1) no conditioner, some rooms needs renovation , like mine did! The faucets in the bathrooms were at least 30 years old. The bath water was too cold on day 1 and 2 but from day 3 onwards was too hot , we tried to fix it but couldn’t . We already made many requests to reception so were tired to point it out. The heating was not working on day 1 so I increased it but on day 2 also wasn’t warm enough in the room. The reception sent the technician on day 3 but was never really warm enough in the room. The beds weren’t made on day 1 however after pointing it out was made on all other days. The room safe was complicated but we did manage to use it . Apparently they take no responsibility for items inside safe! The first two days didn’t have one or more courses (vegetarian) after specifically letting the hotel know we are vegetarian in a four-five course meal.
They had an afternoon snack mentioned in the reservation which we got never any info about during the whole stay. The spa snack (apple) was provided on 3 out of 5 days. The swimming pool water was too chlorinated all days , our eyes would burn so we didn’t swim as it might be harmful for skin too.
The worst incident for us was the new year surcharge - we made a reservation over email. The booking was half board. During our check in the reception asks us to pay new year surcharge for the dinner, so we said we don’t want to have the new year special dinner. But then she says no you must pay as you booked half board. To which we said we were never informed about this surcharge during the booking. This MUST be informed at time of booking. To which she says yes my colleague made a mistake but now you must pay!
We felt fleeced ! We had to pay for their mistake. This is unprofessional. If you made a mistake you pay not the customer.
Overall :will I go again ? never ; if they revamp the rooms and the services I am sure they have great potential ahead given their location.
Lucky to squeeze our trip in last weekend as it turns out , but already looking forward to returning in 2021!
Top tip- great spot opposite hotel entrance for apres ski (apart from HansShnappes of course!)
The toilet flush of the other rooms is so loud that one has the feeling that a dam has broken. Because of this we were startled several times during the night. There is no sun protection on the balcony, so the rooms get accordingly hot. The pool is not nearly as big as shown on the internet. We had booked 2 nights, but left after the first night. The staff at the reception was rather unmotivated and neutral.
On our departure we were told that the costs for the 2nd night would be automatically debited from our credit card and that we would have to see the organizer to get our money.
But then the correspondence went directly through the hotel. The hotel first refused to give us a credit note for the 2nd night, but thanks to the intervention of the organizer, we now finally got 80% of the costs refunded. I would never go back to this hotel, I can't recommend it in any case.
The staff were pleased to help and gave extremely useful advice on trips and travel. Nothing was too much trouble.
Family of 3, my son stayed on the sofa bed. Rooms good size. Well heated, and great wifi throughout.
The location was ideal. near shops, and a short walk to the ski lift "cityExpress". Good sized ski room and all boots well dry and warm the next day.
The spa and pool access was nicer than expected.
They did coffee and cake at 4pm. Albeit the temperature of coffee and hot water was always luke-warm rather than hot!
The restaurant was brilliant in the morning, with a good variety. The dinner (half board) can be hit and miss. But generally I found the fish dishes where brilliant and better than other options. Kids may struggle with some of the local type cuisine theme.
All in all , a nice hotel and not excessively priced for the value.
Now the skiing.....Zell am See is decent enough albeit a bit small. We were lucky with great snow and weather. Kaprun is a bit of an effort with bus and lifts, but if you want freestyle and snow park action its excellent. great variety of jumps, rails, boxes to play on. Its the best combos of snowparks ive come across all based up in Kaprun.
If you just had week in Kaprun and Zell I would be a bit bored. But the link to Saalbach makes the ski trip awesome. Soo much skiing and options of areas with a huge area coverage. We spent 4 days in Saalbach, one in Zell and one in Kaprun. Loads of variety and some long exhausting days. Was great fun !
"Room at front overlooking square, Initially slept with our window open, but too noisy., not hotels fault. Once window closed it was quiet."Read full review
"Avoid buying water in the hotel. It was 6.80 a bottle. The local shops sell it for .95c a bottle."Read full review
