With the Sölden skiing area being just a stone's throw away, the 3* superior hotel Bäckelar Wirt is truly designed and made for those who love winter sports. Here is where high standards and a laid-back atmosphere meet – in our rooms, in the wellness area, at the breakfast buffet, or during a delicious multi-course dinner. Located about 100 meters from the Gaislachkogl cableway station, the hotel is a must for those who want to get straight out of bed and onto the slopes. Hosts and guests live an active lifestyle, which can be sensed all over the place. Even in our rooms, where soft tones, cubic forms, no-frill design and wooden elements merge. Panoramic views of the skiing eldorado of Sölden included.

I stayed with my family for a week over the English February half term. We booked two Pine Rooms which easily accommodated my wife and three children aged 16, 13 and 8. The nearest lift was the gondola that in two short hops takes you to the Ice Q restaurant at 3,000 meters. As one of my children had her first snowboarding lessons we also took the ski bus to the lift at the other end of the town which was fine, although busy at times. Unless you're an absolute beginner you can ski from the nearest lift to the ski schools via blue runs and two lift hops. The rooms were great, clean, spacious with good bathrooms and generous sized baths. The basement gives access to the ski rental shop which has up to date equipment and the lads working there were helpful and the collection and drop off of equipment was straightforward. The hotel also has it's own racks and boot storage which is heated and ventilated overnight. Access via the basement is from 8am however you can also get in at the rear of the building out of hours. It really couldn't be easier. We stayed half board and had meals everynight in the hotel. Each night had different meal options and plenty of buffet accompaniments which meant everyone went to bed full and happy. In our opinion the food was great, some of the dishes were exceptional. Normally we would get bored and go out to eat somewhere different but it just didn't happen so that says it all. The staff who looked after us were fantastic, thank you Lazslo and Kristina for taking such good care of us and to everyone else we met who made our stay a pleasure. I ate in the cafe at one lunchtime and the food there was great as well. The wine list had enough choice to provide variety for me over the seven nights and was well priced and great value. We were able to spend our last day skiing and the hotel has shower facilities in the basement however take a swim suit as they are part of the spa and the glass isn't frosted. There is an adjacent luggage room to store your equipment.

Overall I think the hotel and more importantly the staff is/are fantastic and perfectly suited our needs. My family have all expressed a desire to return next year!

Thank you family Gstrein!

I stayed in February for the second time with family Gstrein with my wife and three children. The hotel is very comfortable and convenient with a ski hire and lockers located underneath the building. Our rooms were clean and comfortable with a good bathroom and plenty of storage space. The gondola is five minutes walk and takes you up to both mid station and ice q. We didn't eat out on either trip because the food was so good there was no need. The breakfast was great as well. I drank some fantastic wines with great recommendations from Simon. This hotel is great value and really is an excellent place to spend on a ski holiday. Thank you all so much for looking after us and we hope to see you again.

I'm not often inclined to write a review, however on this occasion there were a few things I wanted to comment on for future guests to know.

Overall the hotel is clean, well located near the lift, good access to basement ski rental hire and storage and very functional.

It isn't the hotel you would want to stay in if you want anything more than a basic hotel room and somewhere to sleep. The furnishings are very minimal.

A few minor details (no kettle or fridge in any rooms) small things I know, but when you are away from home, it's mini luxuries you miss! Also a better option of pillows (most of us had to ask for more!)

The service I feel was the biggest disappointment. We were met with quite a dismissive attitude on several occasions, when asking for certain things made us all feel we were a nuisance or it was a request out of the ordinary.

That aside, everything else was fine and it was also very quiet, so great to get some peace after a long day skiing!

Spent a week half term break and it is as the title says. You got everything you need for skiing: locations, ski depot, parking, etc. Room very spacious, modern clean bathrooms, great spa facilities and not least, the food. Amazingly good food that combines local gastronomy with international ones. Been to some fancy London restaurants that were not anywhere near to the food served here. Really nice surprise and we already booked for Christmas. Bottom line: you will struggle to get a better skiing package at this price. And we have been coming to Austria for the last 18 years.

Very nice and cosy hotel with a perfect location just beside a ski-lift, in the heart of Sölden. Incredible friendly and helpful stuff, all of them. Excellent food!
All of it together makes a stay in Sölden even better. Can highly recommend it, best choice.

Cozy and nice hotel, located near one of the 2 cable cars running from the city. Great variety of food for breakfast and wonderful dinner options, being able to choose from 3 main courses.
The staff is extremly friendly. The fact that there is a big parking lot right near the hotel is a plus.
The relaxation area (incl the saunas) are opened in the afternoon so it is just the perfect timing after a skiing day.
This hotel ticks all the boxes for our needs on a ski holiday with the friends. For sure it will be our choice for the following one.

I stayed with family and friends at the backelar wirt for a week. The hotel is 100 m from the Gondola ( kids considered it as good as ski in ski out). The rooms are spacious and new with comfortable beds. All our rooms had balconies. Bathrooms either had showers ou bathtubs and are spacious.
The food was good and nicely served( a choice of meat/ fish/ veggie for dinner each night) except for desserts that weren't to our taste;-). Very good soups each night
The sauna/ relaxium was well appointed and clean ( water jugs need to be tended to in the den)
Wifi is variable in the evening but overall ok
There's a shop on site to rent skis and buy ski passes
Overall a great stay for the price!
