Perfect for meat lovers. Nice big juicy steaks, good choice of sauces, crunchy chunky fries, spare ribs, Irish cider, terrace in the spring, summer and autumn. The service is ok and a guarantee that you will not leave hungry... What more can you wish for?

As there we four adults travelling all over 50 years or age and with one of our party being disabled we chose and booked the apartment which, according to the information included a fitted kitchen.

On our arrival we were kept waiting in the bar area for quite some time before we were shown to the room, which was on the second floor and could only be accessed via two flights of very narrow, steep and badly lit stairs (see photos).

When we finally got to the room we were extremely disappointed to find that there was NO KITCHEN! This room, although clean and freshly decorated, was nothing like the apartment we had booked and two of our party had to sleep in bunk beds that were clearly intended for children!

When we complained to the manager all had said was that it was a problem with the agent and nothing to do with the Pipers. He actually said that NONE of the rooms had a kitchenette! The best he could do was give us two double rooms on the first floor for the second night.

We requested, and received, a small fridge plus a kettle and accessories which arrived fairly promptly.

We were disappointed with the breakfast. The bacon was awful and the eggs didn't even look like eggs, but there was plenty cereal and a selection of cold meat and cheese available which did compensate to some degree.

The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating and could not be faulted although they were not in any hurry to take our money off us on the day we left and this kept us hanging around the bar area for two hours.

We do feel that was should have received compensation for the stress and hastle but as the hotel manager was unavailable on the day of our departure, we were unable to negotiate with anyone.

Overall - a well presented hotel ideal for able-bodied people but definitely not for the disabled, and the general structure of the building leaves a lot to be desired with uneven floors and steps which could potentially cause serious harm.

DO NOT BOOK THE NON-EXISTANT APARTMENT ROOM!!!!

Negatives:
Room not as described ie no kitchen, no kettle no microwave and pictures not of the rooms in the hotel. Owner said fault of Booking.com as he had told them these photos and descriptions were no longer applicable. Also webòsite says 3 rooms but there are many more. Room that he gave us initially was tiny. Bathroom was downright dangerous with socket for hairdryer touching the bathroom tap. Shower head broken and sink came away from wall and leaked water all over floor. Came back first day and room not cleaned and bed not made. Towels which were old mix matched and threadbare had been changesd so someone had been in room. It was as if you had gone to help a friend renovate his house and were making do with unfinished accommodation!!
.breakfastwas good if you wanted cooked Irish but if not very very poor.
There was no one to go to with our concerns next morning as apart from breakfast staffthe B&B and restaurant was closed for the day. There was no staff member there during the whole day but the entrance to the building had no lock and people from the street had free access to the building which was a bit worrying.
Owner next morning changed us rooms. Totally different standard of room although it appeared not yet to be finished off . However how can you ask the same price for 2 so different rooms. Was not cheap for Belgium at Euro 90 per night.
Positives:
Position couldn't be better. Restaurant was superb both food and service. Pub very authentic feel. Free Wifi Connection sporadic in rooms but good downstairs in resturant/bar.
I really think that owner would be well advised to concentrate on that side of the business and give up the B&B side.
i strongly advise checking comments on Booking.com before deciding whether to book this B&B

No Service - Maybe it's because of my last name :P
Anyway, before I said my Jewish last name for a reservation, we were served normally the day before.
I don't want to imply anything here. I'm just saying what I observed.

Unfortunately, after about 40 minutes no one take our order, Although I have told the temporary several times that we would like to order. The temporary also told the waiter, no reaction, so we paid our drinks and leave.
They charged the full amount of money for the drinks and even no apology.

If you are after a peaceful nights sleep Do Not Stay Here. The pub is below the family rooms on the 1st floor the pub serves food to 1.00 am. This is followed by the staff and locals drinking on to 4.00 am. The music was only turned off when I went down to the bar and complained at 1.30 am.

The staff don`t give a dam about the guests and the so called Irish breakfast is rubbish, the only thing Irish about this place is the decor and the beer. The shower head was broken, the sink blocked up, the floor board are damaged and creaking. One window had no curtains or blinds, no remote control for the TV, the bathroom door does not close or lock. The noise from the bar and the smokers outside the single glazed windows is terrible.

We requested private parking in advance, on arrival we where told to use the local car park which was full up. After driving around for 30 minutes trying to find a space I returned to the pub to be told the parking space is at No 26 you can use that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This place has seen better days, the staircase up to the rooms is not for the elderly or disabled, For 169 euros a night this is not value for money, it is a RIP OFF.

Lovely little place, handy for travelling around the area.

The Pipers was a lovely place to stay for a few days, the owner and staff were all helpful and attentive to your needs without over-fussing.

Easy to find and park the car nearby, the stairs and passageways are interesting. The room was a decent size as was the bathroom – both rooms were modern in their fittings.
Evening meals and breakfasts are good, the service quite quick. Lots of drinks in the bar to choose from. The Irish icons seem a bit mixed with Scottish, but it’s all part of the fun and perhaps a Belgian trait; we saw evidence of it elsewhere. The Irish - style pasta and tiramisu on the Pipers web page menu might be pushing the link a bit! But all the food we had was good and gave us no cause for complaint.

Would have no hesitation in returning here.

A must visit if passing this beautiful Belgium coastline... The most amazing Spare RIBS I have ever eaten... and fantastic service to. The Spagetti is awesome as well together with fish dishes. Have been there a few times now with my family and would definitely be going again during my next visit... Thank you

Camped at Middelkerke in a soulless campsite, a bit bleak and had regrets as soon as we got our pitch but the night was rescued when we went for some food and drink at the The Pipers, when we walked in it was so warm and inviting, busy and friendly. We sat down and looked at the menu and both opted for spaghetti bolognese, i ordered a groot (grand) and the wife a medium size, they both came out and we're huge, very very tasty and made with home made pasta......beautiful!!

Met a local and ended up having a few drinks with him and a couple from Germany, met the chef (a real fun guy) and had some real good laughs.

The difference between Belgium and France was stark, we'd spent a week in France and never met such warm people, locals,waiters/waitresses and bar staff as those in Belgium and this place was up there with the best during our brief stay.

Would recommend no problem this place for food, drink and atmosphere, can't comment on accommodation as I never stayed here.

I booked with a little trepidation as the idea of visiting an Irish Bar when travelling outside of Great Britain or the US East Coast is something of an anathema to my mind.

The Irish thing is a theme for the bar, the food and the guest rooms for sure but the offer here is more down to earth than that and the place is comfortable, hospitable, hygienic, fun and worthwhile.

I will stay whenever I am travelling and need a stop-off point again. For a family the rooms are great value. I do recommend. For a holiday I suppose if the weather was fine it could have its merits being not far from the seaside - a quick walk - but not my bag (at least not until I am 99 years old!).

We arrived in pouring rain but found quite by accident. Our room was large and the bed very comfortable. The stairs are very dangerous and far too steep, a real fire hazard. We ate in the bar and it was very busy and a good atmosphere. The ribs were superb, a very good meal and reasonably priced. As we were the only people staying, the breakfast was a little basic but good coffee and croissants made up for it.
