#2 of 3 B&Bs in Marseillan

Value
Probably one of the best addresses in the heart of the old village of Marseillan, nearby Sete and Beziers. Our delightful ""maison Vigneronne"" – which dates from the 19th century – offers you all the luxury of a prestigious town house, tastefully decorated by a gracious marriage of Italian and French flair and style. The thoughtful renovations have incorporated all the comforts of modern life without losing any of the charm of days gone by. Situated just 2 minutes' walk from the port of Marseillan, with its colourful cafes and restaurants for waterfront dining, or simply a cool place to sit and watch the world go by, we consider this is a prime location for enjoying all that Marseillan village can offer. Come and enjoy the exclusivity of our 3 guestrooms in our comfortable main house, or stay in our cool and modern gite in its own secluded space at the end of our private garden. Central to the garden, planted with a colourful array of well-established Mediterranean shrubs and flowers, we have a generously-sized heated swimming pool (5 x 9 meters) for our guests to enjoy from may/june to september.

I think if you were booking a self catering place you may be ok with this place. However if you want a traditional b&b experience this is not the place. There is no house keeping (we had to ask). So no new towels / bedding / cleaning. No cosmetics - not even a bar of soap - we had to go to the shop to buy one. Despite me giving over a month notice of my coeliac disease it was day 3 before I was given any gf bread with breakfast. We arrived at night and had to make up my sons bed for him as it was not done. Breakfast is delivered in a box - the same thing every day, the coffee is bad - think it’s instant. As it arrives in a box you have to set the table and then clear up / wash up every day, You have to take your own rubbish out to the rubbish centre. The bed did not have a real mattress - it was just a wedge of foam - I have never had less sleep. Photo attached. If you work hard and want a relaxing holiday - with being looked after / this is not it. The pool is nice and the location is good. However you are not allowed the use the pool until 11am which is half the day gone with a 3 year old. There are lots of rules posters everywhere with lots of exclamation marks. Bikes are available at the property - I think they charge for them - but not always. Check the tyres though as one of ours was flat and we had to walk for miles to get back with a 3 year old. For the price it’s just not worth it / we checked out a night early as I could not do another night with that foam bed situation. My back is in pieces. I did not give this information to the hosts at the time as I asked for clarification re the bill I got a lot of hostile responses - it made me feel they are not open to feedback. I could not wait to leave.

Response from Roberto Aiello, Directeur général at La Casa Occitane
Responded 13 Sept 2023
Claire, perhaps you were mistaken about our establishment and so of course it is good to clarify all these remarks concerning us, because for many of it, it is a version of things rather far from reality. Firstly, Claire arrived before 6 pm and not late in the evening as she is pretending with a taxi that we had booked for her, on her request as she did not manage to do it herself. The folding bed was in the cottage for the little boy. I asked her where she wanted to install it and she says that it was not a problem and she would think about it later... the bedings were ready to be installed on the bed. Concerning the gluten-free bread, 2 days before she arrived to have fresh bread, I explore all the supermarkets around to find it for her, unfortunately there was any in any shops. Again, she said it was not a problem. Two days later the supermarkets were supplied with the bread, so I got her 2 bags. The mattress in the gîte is foam, but memory foam from the tempur brand, and none of our customers complained about it before, quite the contrary! But perhaps this type of bed is not for some people, we can agree, but she is the first one to complain about it. She and her little family hired 2 of our bikes for three days and we offered to hire them for free (instead of 20 euros per day for the two bikes, i.e. 60 euros). Yes, it was bad luck for her to have a punctured bike only 1 km from the house, but these things happen to all cyclists and it's certainly not our fault, as she claims! I replaced the bike for her as soon as she got back, and she took it straight away and that was not a problem for her at the moment! In the meantime, she forgot to tell us a pedal was broken. Our gite is not a chambre d'hôte, it's a totally separated flat, for completely independent holidays, as mentionned on our website. We offer breakfast for free , which we bring in the morning at the gite and which is taken on the private terrace and not with the other clients of the chambres d'hôtes a little further away in the garden... Our cottage clients greatly appreciate this service and the privacy which is clearly specified in our description! Young children are not allowed to play in the pool before the end of breakfast, which is between 10 and 11 am, in order to keep the other guests calm and comfortable! All the other parents have accepted that so far. The little ones are welcome and can enjoy the pool for the rest of the day without any restrictions of course! Yes, you have to take your rubbish to the bins in the street... Yes, you have to wash your breakfast dishes, which Claire didn't do when she left, unlike all our other guests from the cottage, and ... Yes, we did come to change her sheets, give her clean towels and clean her bathroom on the fourth day, as we do when our clients ask us to do so, again free of charge! And no, our coffee is certainly not instant! You have to know the difference! Claire has decided to leave a day earlier than planned because the weather was bad and she pretended she was supposed to meet up with friends in another french region. But our conditions are clear and apply in case of early departure, she had to pay for the whole stay, i.e. one extra day, even if she didn't agree! Once again, in this situation no-one has ever taken offence at these conditions, on the one or two occasions it had happened in 9 years. Finally, she asked us to book a taxi for her departure and she forgot to mention in her comment that instead we took 1 hour of our time at 7.30 on the last morning to drop her and her family off - free of charge - at the station, as we sometimes do for our customers who don't have a car ! Saving her the cost of a taxi... As kindness is not always rewarded, yes we accept criticism but certainly not this erroneous versions of the facts! A bon entendeur

I can't add to the fantatic reviews about Roberto & Peggy's place. We spent a week in the cottage. We know Marseillan very well but this exceeded all our previous visits.Effortless sophistication everywhere in this nice house. We will return.

The Casa Occitane is located just a couple minute walk from the Marseillan little harbour, with plenty restaurants offering seafood and the locally grown oysters. Although we arrived 45 minutes before the check-in time, Roberto welcomed us inside and gave us the tour of the B&B. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The breakfast in the garden was delicious with fresh croissants, baguette, eggs, yogurt, fruits, orange juice. Free public parking is available just around the corner

We loved our stay at La Case Occitane. Roberto and his family took great care of us, and made us feel right at home. We are a family of four and stayed in the Cottage, which offered privacy with our own little house and terrace. A breakfast basket was delivered every morning - what a bliss! The location of this boutique B&B is perfect; walking distance to the cute little port with its many great restaurants at the same time as we could easily reach several of the region's must-sees by car. We will definitely come back!.

Booked August 2018 - stayed 1st to 12th July 2019. And what a stay it was, as in the title, more of a home for Lynsey and I within your B and B. I got carried away with my review initially, at the end it was unacceptable, just too many wonderful words about everything we discovered at La Casa Occitane, and so I've had to edit it. May I just say, Roberto and Peggy, you have something really special here, I have no qualms about recommending it to anyone, a 5*+ establishment in a wonderful town, in a wonderful area, be very very proud of yourselves.

We stayed 3 nights in this beautifully restored house. Roberto and Peggy were the perfect hosts with plenty of suggestions and information. Their attention to detail is flawless, from the gorgeous bedroom to the delicious breakfast on the terrace. You can walk to the port in about two minutes for restaurants and bars. We also availed of their bicycles and cycled to Sète for lunch. Everything was perfect ! I would highly recommend this guest house to anyone visiting the area.

Loved our stay with Roberto and his family. Had intended to stay for one night but as soon as we walked into the lovely room decided to stay another night. Roberto is the perfect host. Full of information and helpful tips on what to do in the area. We used his bikes and rode to the canal du midi and onto the beach which was a highlight of our holiday. Passed flamingos on the way which were amazing to see. The house is beautiful and location is right in the centre of the town. Walked to the port and even though it was winter still a good selection of restaurants close by. Definitely five stars!

La Casa Occitane is in the heart of Marseillan and has been lovingly restored by its owners Roberto and Peggy. This is a B&B with added bonuses like breakfast on the terrace overlooking the relaxing garden space and swimming pool - the biggest bonus being the lovely welcome and warmth on arrival and during our stay. This is an outstanding place to stay during a visit to Marseillane. The local knowledge of Roberto and Peggy is very helpful and enhanced our experience of the area.
