fabulous hotel... the staff and managers were so friendly. We had a half board package and the chef's choice dinners were amazing. Great breakfast buffet with option to make your own waffles. We didn't see the Northern Lights on site but the manager recommended another location we drove to and we were lucky enough to see the lights.

The visitor is drawn to the hotel by the location which is great for the Golden Circle and the Northern Lights. The hotel is not cheap so while one is prepared for rustic given the location one is still expecting something quite nice. The most important point that is not clear from the web site is that only one side...

Beautiful hotel, mixing the luxurious with the seclusion of being outside Reykjavik. We received a free upgrade for our one night stay, which was an excellent surprise. Clean, well-done rooms and great food (both dinner and breakfast). Only drawback was we did not get to see the Northern Lights, which just means we have an excuse to come back and...

What a wonderful hotel! Service impeccable, staff and owner kind and very welcoming, food really high end and delicious, accommodations truly stellar (we stayed in a suite). Even though we went to ranga for 3 nights to see the northern lights - which sadly didn't show themselves- we had the best time! Husband and I Took adventure tours with Wonderful...

We stayed 3 nights on a half board basis book directly through the hotel website. This was better value than booking room only or bed and breakfast. Take advantage of the happy hour. We had a deluxe room. This was comfortable. It had a nice bathroom with large corner spa bath. The outdoor hot tub was lovely, even on a...

Booked this hotel for 3 nights to celebrate a friend's birthday- couldn't have wished for better. Prior to arrival the hotel were really helpful with organising a birthday cake and also in getting some bits pre delivered. Whilst there they couldn't do enough and beautifully decorated our table for the birthday dinner. The food was amazing both in the restaurant...

Our standard room was small but clean and the furnishings were good quality. The public ares were smart and stylish with lots of polished wood. The staff were friendly and efficient. There is a sign in book at reception to indicate whether on not you wish to be woken overnight if the Northern Lights appear. There is one hot tub...

We stayed 5 nights at this wonderful hotel in a deluxe double room. Can't fault it. The staff were helpful, nothing was too difficult for them. The rooms were super clean...big thank you to the housekeeping staff....and comfortable and well equipped. Ideal for exploring the south of Iceland and for those who want some peace and quiet. This hotel is cosy with a ski lodge feel including timber facade, hot-tubs and surrounded by beautiful wilderness landscape. The service was good but the prices are high. We ate the first night at the restaurant and the food was good but not fantastic and at the high prices I really wanted to be blown away. The local restaurant Strond...

What an amazing hotel! This place really made our Iceland trip. We stayed in a deluxe room which had a jacuzzi bath and sofa and looked onto the river with a veranda. We payed for the package which includes our evening meals and would highly recommend doing this, we actually saved a bomb and meant we didn't have to drive...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
