Value
Hotel Tindastoll is the oldest hotel in Iceland, dating back in 1884. The building came in parts from Norway and it was assembled as a storehouse in Hofsos between 1820 and 1829, moved later on to Grafarós in 1833 and finally shipped over the fjord and reassembled at its present location in Sauðárkrókur.

We were doing the grand circle and only had one night here, but would have like to spend several nights here. The beds and pillows were comfortable, the curtains provided sufficient room darkness, and the bathroom was lovely with heated floors. There is a thermal spa outside with nearby dry-heat sauna. Dinner and breakfast were delicious with many options and quality ingredients.

This is a wonderful historic hotel, one of my favorites that I’ve ever stayed in. The staff is very helpful and friendly, and I loved the hot pot after a short but strenuous hike and a long drive. Simple but excellent breakfast buffet included - fresh bread, cheese, cold cuts, fruit and great coffee and juice. I really wouldn’t change a thing.

As some previous reviewers mentioned, the walls are somewhat thin - as you would expect in a building this old. Management provides earplugs in case it’s a problem. I didn’t need them, even though I was in a room over the bar.

Totally recommend this hotel for anyone who appreciates history and charm and a warm welcome. I would love to stay here again - hopefully I’ll get the chance..

This is given in the context of a unique, old hotel (1884) in a small town in northern Iceland. Full of character, exposed beams and a local flavour. The rooms are not large but very comfortable. There is a nice small hot tub in the courtyard. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but good quality. The evening meal is a choice of one of two mains and a dessert with coffee for a fixed price. The food was home style but superbly cooked. Prefer this any day over cookie cutter modern hotels.

Hotel Tindastóll is a terrible hotel. The rooms are very small and cramped. it sounds very loud between rooms in every way. the service is not good. The shower did not work and the price was way too high, do not recommend this at all.
Hótel Tindastóll er hræðilegt hótel. Herbergin eru mjög lítil og þröng. það heyrist mjög mikið milli herbergja á alla vegu. þjónustan er ekki góð. Sturtan virkaði ekki vel og verðið allt of hátt. Mæli alls ekki með þessu að neinu leit

Really liked this taste of the ‘old world’ for a one night stay during our trip round the Route 1. Nicely furnished with period fittings, right down to the light switches. Staff were fantastically helpful, even offering a microwave when we couldn’t get a hot meal in town. Good peaceful night’s sleep. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Check if there is an event on in town as there is only three restaurants which may not serve you.

A beautiful old hotel dating back to 1820….with plenty of modern rooms! The manager was friendly and very obliging nothing was too much trouble. Rooms nicely decorated with all you need. The thermal pool was a marvellous bonus… great way to finish the day! Good breakfast as well.

We stayed in the cottage/cabin which was comfortable with all amenities including sofa. But seemed like an unfinished project, even the outside was half painted!
3 single beds with small bathroom.
The wifi was weak and therefore effectively useless.
The curtains offered no blackout, also effectively useless.
The small communal hot pool was nice, but extremely slippery getting in & out - an accident waiting to happen!
Breakfast was average with no hot food.

The last time I stayed at this hotel, I had the same thought: why did I order this hotel? It looked so lovely on the web, but when I arrived, it was so old and rundown, and it was pretty expensive. However, when I leave, I have a good feeling and good memories.

The houses are old, one from 1884, I think, and the new annex from 1950, I think. You have to go outside to get between the two houses. Everything is so run down on the outside. But inside it is warm and cosy, with no bad smell. The room is lovely, with new windows and a comfortable bed.

Service is satisfactory, and breakfast is simple but fresh.

Strangely, everything in the hotel is in English - nothing in Icelandic, and the staff doesn't speak Icelandic.

This hotel was excellent. Easy check in with pleasant and professional staff. Our room was very clean and had a comfy bed with lots of pillows! The bathroom had plenty of water pressure and lots of hot water.

Breakfast was excellent! Plenty of tasty options and fresh filtered coffee!

Value for $$$ was top notch! Would recommend.

Thanks

The rooms are very large and have a lot of space.
The staff is also very nice. The breakfast is just great and there is plenty of everything. The breakfast room is unique and quaint. The pot is a dream. It's in a great location, parking is available.

I would have preferred not to look behind the nightstands, they've never cleaned them. Bathroom could also be cleaner. The drain smells in the bathroom. One of the most expensive accommodations on our trip.
