Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good, solid, decent place. Very clean and quiet for a hostel. Good location not far from beach and downtown. Good Breakfast, reasonably priced. Felt very welcomed by staff who gave great information about the town and what to do.

The women who manage the hostel are really nice, kind and welcoming! The rooms are clean, the breakfast is really good. The hostel's position is central and you can easily reach the beach and the most attractive places of the town. I've been to this hostel with a friend of mine and we felt like at home.

They promote a different (cheaper) price on the website and when you arrive they ask for more because of “high season”, when the high season-price is already stated on the site. They also have the same prices on a sign but the staff says “they’re not updated”. They also charge for breakfast even if you don’t want it and they serve it really late so you might not even have Romero eat any. Address info is wrong. The “receptionist” seemed completely high or drunk and incredibly unprofessional . I did not stay there.

We stayed here one night and there was one staff member (lady with glasses) who was rude and not welcoming at all. We didn’t even get a “hello” when we arrived, instead she just seemed so bothered by the fact the we had arrived a few hours before checkin time just to leave our bags. The other younger staff member was lovely though but just a shame to have someone thats not service minded working at reception. Other than that it’s an okay hostel and clean but the common areas are small. I chose to change hostel after one night to one which was much more friendlier and had nicer atmosphere.

Super nice small Hostel with a good atmosphere, with clean facilities and comfy beds in the heart of Peniche. The breakfast is yummy and the staff is very friendly, especially Seb during the nightshift was super funny. If you wanna learn to surf you should stay here. Thank you

We spent only one night, but it was a plesure. The structure is located in an old flat in the center of the town. The common space are good and friendly and as well as the breakfast toghether. The room is essential but all was perfectly clean. The volunteers are professional and always smiling.

We felt completely unwelcome at this hostel. Yes the decor is nice, but no one even said hello to us on arrival. We booked the double room and someone asked us to turn down the volume on our laptop at about midnight as we were watching a surf documentary. We turned down the volume and switched off after about 10 mins. Apparently this was a big problem for the staff here as in the morning they totally avoided us and were silent at the breakfast table. The girl staff then proceeded to scold me for taking bread from the incorrect basket and was extremely rude. We left straight away without even showering or brushing our teeth as we felt so horribly awkward :( Don't stay here. Surf camps so much more chilled and friendly.

Response from Alexandra R, Gestor de Front Office at Peniche Hostel Backpackers
Responded 21 Aug 2017
We are not a party Hostel...and for us is realy important that everyone can rest in the place that they paid for...soo that's way we close all the community areas at midnight. We have 2 kitchens and guests have breakfast on the side that they book, yes we give breakfast not food for all the day, the other guests will enjoy being able to eat fresh bread to. Thank you and all the best

Friendly staff, helpfully booking Berlengas boat trip. A wee bit cramped, but comfortable enough and clean, and ideal location in Peniche. A few minutes toddle round from the bus station and a pleasant stroll down the road to the harbour.

I've been in Peniche Hostel for a night and loved the experience! It was my first time alone in a hostel, and I was a little nervous and afraid. I met reallly nice people from Canada, Finland and Australia, we had dinner together and then we went in a bar. The hostel is a quite small, but the atmosphere is very family friendly and welcoming.. Xana, who is the gerent, is really cool, and made me feel at home. She let me leave my stuff at the hostel even after checking out.. The wi-fi is fast, and there is a small terrace when you can read, sunbathing, etc...The hostel door closes at midnight, so you have to enter there before it.The breakfeast is served between 9am to 11am, and is really good, with fresh bread, different jams, milk, granola, corn flakes,...Xana usually has breakfeast with costumers. I think this is a good option if you are looking for a cheap place to stay, and if you want to meet new people. Hope you have an experience as good as mine!
