Suryalila is located in the lovely countryside of southern Spain. The grounds of the centre are vast, with many different buildings including the lovely Om Dome and the sauna. There are many volunteers working there, keeping the centre running. We were very unlucky with the weather, as it rained a lot but I can see how nice it would be to chill outside when it’s warm. Despite the lovely setting, I felt quite disappointed with the retreat and don’t feel it was worth the money. Most activities on offer were at the centre and of a spiritual nature. There were few excursions offered, which is a shame as there are some lovely towns nearby and it would have been nice to see Spain. The evening yoga classes were very good, however the morning classes were sequentially a bit mixed up and not the usual flow with similar postures grouped together. The breathing and fast arm movements made me feel really dizzy. The food was ok but was much the same everyday, and quite bland at times. A number of people had had enough, one person left before the retreat ended and another was very vocal about her disappointment and also left very early into the retreat. When the time came to leave, I was also pleased to be moving on. The energy was not good towards the end. The schedule was all pre-determined and it would have been nice to offer options and check with the group what kind of activities they would like to do. I would say this retreat is only suitable for people seeking a spiritual path, and not for folk looking for a holiday that includes yoga with other activities. This retreat is an acquired taste, quite alternative rather than the mainstream physical practice.

I trained here in 2018, and they just launched a Cyber Retreat that is world-class, I have taken classes all over the world and I find the teachers all first-class, cookery classes with food grown by them, permaculture classes, about 6-7 live online classes a day for all levels and meditation and philosophy every day. Seriously, not sure I would be quite as zen in this new Covid reality we are faced with without them. It's not as cheap as many online classes but I believe you get what you pay for.

Suryalila is a beautiful setting - nice accommodation, grounds, gardens, pool, places to chill. The staff are incredibly friendly and I had a lovely relaxing time here. I have been to a number of yoga retreats and I was disappointed by the yoga teacher at Suryalila. I had 4 different teachers during my stay and they all seemed inexperienced and nervous (apart from Vidya). This was a real shame as I had heard great reviews about this yoga centre and was expecting more better quality teaching. It was also a bit disappointing to not be able to have a class in the Om Dome. This is a real selling point for the retreat, however it should be made clearer that you may not actually have lessons in the dome as they are reserved for the yoga teacher training students. Finally, it was much busier than i anticipated, so at times, the pool area was noisy and busy and mealtimes were also quite hectic. For example, I was 15 mins late for breakfast and there wasn't much food left. Irrespective of this, I had a great stay but wanted to highlight a few areas for improvement!

Thanks for your review and feedback. I am sorry your yoga classes weren't up to scratch. We mostly have very experienced and qualified teachers in the mornings but possibly some were away and less experienced teachers were subbing. I will look into this-the quality of the classes is very important to me. The Om Dome is mostly reserved for bigger groups, who would not fit into our smalller spaces. On Saturdays we usually have the morning class for independant guests in the OM Dome. Both the other shalas are also lovely though. I will clarify on the website this point though, as I don't want to be misleading about it. I will pass on your comment to the kitchen. What must have happened is that they hadn't replenished the table quickly enough as we always make sure the food is available for at least 45 minutes after the gong rings. It is definitely not normal or acceptable for the food to run out 15 mins after the serving time. I am glad you had a great stay anyway!

We returned this year as Suryalila is a place of peace, tranquility and relaxation with excellent food! Yoga twice a day with lovely teachers and the opportunity for riding and day trips out to surrounding towns and villages. I would, however, advise not to go when there is a large group of students training to be yoga teachers as it can be slightly less tranquil!
