Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We need a room for 6 and Fort Verde Suites were perfect! We had two rooms joined together by a full kitchen so plenty of room for us to spread out. Even better each room had it's own bathroom which we appreciated when all 6 of us were trying to get out the door in the morning to head to a spring training game. Friendly manager checked us in, Rooms were clean with comfortable beds - would definitely stay here again.
Travel tip - most businesses closed by 8 pm in town - so plan to eat before then!

We drove to Camp Verde from Phoenix through a snowstorm and were REALLY happy to arrive at this little motel. The manager had left our room keys for us since we were arriving after check-in. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. In the morning we had a quick complimentary breakfast ( oatmeal, apples, granola bars, bagels) then got on the road. The manager, Donna, helped me plan a few stops as we made our way to Sedona. This motel is located close to Montezuma Castle, Montezuma Well and the V-V Heritage Site. All of these sites are worth seeing and can be combined for a great afternoon of tourism.

It sits a little above the road; noise was not an issue. Charming interiors, bathrooms, linens so much nicer than is customary, with a window in the shower, which was great; and a porch with chairs along the front. Nice toiletries too. It was a little more than we were hoping to spend, but it turned out to have a kitchen sink, fridge, and microwave in a separate room, which enabled me to fix breakfast and also refreeze our ice chest packs.

It is a vintage motel which demonstrates quite conclusively, that we no longer have the knack of making motels. Everything has gone to hell, but this motel is a little reprieve. Highly recommend.

This place is an older place and they tried their best to keep it in ok condition but it is what it is. We chose it because it had great reviews, but realize it just changed ownership recently so prior reviews may not reflect current things.

Some COVID changes:
No continental breakfast as advertised which makes sense
The office hours are limited (ie closed at 7 pm and don't open til 10 am) so you check out by leaving keys in a room if you leave before 10 am. We had checked in at 7 pm and left by 9 am, thought it was odd, but this was just a routine stay… so no big deal with the pandemic. …. Or so we thought (read below)

On a good note - the place is clean enough, sheets are good enough and no obvious bugs or anything. They have a suite where two rooms are connected to a kitchenette which
was perfect as we had two families (total 7 people) stay.

The AC is under lock so only management can change the temperature. Stephen addressed the issue when we called him in the evening. However because it is an older unit, the AC vent is in the back of the room so my son who slept on the bed near the vent was fine. My daughter who usually gets cold easily, slept on the far bed. She woke up in the middle of the night hot. I really did not want to drag someone out of bed to fix this so I made her deal with it and after 2 hours she did fall asleep again. If you are a light sleeper, then the AC is noisy and you may have trouble sleeping like our friend’s daughter.

Although it is advertised that they work on cleanliness, in the room there is a printed white paper taped to the wall and inside of the cabinet door that says something like “multi-use items have not been sanitized”.

They are extremely efficient in charging you, however in terms of responding back it is not as efficient. I had checked my credit card about 4 hours after we left and was charged $45 in “cleaning damages” for 3 towels/bath mats. After multiple calls (mainly on my part), they finally sent me pictures of the “damaged” towels/bath mat. I have posted the 8 pictures Stephen sent me of the towels/bath mats that they said we damaged. I have also included pictures of the beach towel we used for this same trip which got muddy from the river. And then the same beach towel which we did a routine wash without bleach when we got home. The facility must be using different cleaning supplies if they are not able to get rid of the dirt spots/streaks when we were able with a regular washing machine for a muddy towel.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate the feedback and are glad you gave insight on policy and COVID adjustments. First, I would like to address your comment on changed ownership. We have the same staff in place and have had nothing but great reviews since the change besides yours. Due to Covid we have changed our hours and are now open from 10am to 7 pm and offer late check in and early check out. Continental breakfast has not been offered since the pandemic and we are following all recommended suggestions. In some of our suites the thermostat is controlled by the office such as this family suite and can be changed by giving a desk manager a heads up. We are more then happy to accommodate our guests needs. In our suites that are equipped with a kitchenette we have cups, plates, pots and silverware that our valued guests can use. We are required by the health services to provide this sign and will continue to follow guidelines. Housekeepers thoroughly clean these dishes and if you found anything I am positive you would of mentioned it somewhere in your essay long review. Guest will be charged if any linen is damaged and cannot be reused. We thank you for posting pictures that I sent you to show future guests what is not acceptable. We encourage our guests to visit our river here in Camp Verde and the many attractions in the area but do not allow linen leaving the room. There was a total of 5 towels/ bath mats that looked worst then any linen that was ever returned in recent years of our desk manager working here. You were only charged for 3 of them. We are a small family owned motel and cannot afford our linen to be mistreated like such and offer towel rags for mud and things to clean your shoes off if you go to the river. We understand that accidents happen and will address those accordingly if a guest brings it to our attention but will not be responsible for muddy towels and negligence. Fort Verde Suites Management

Let’s start with the bad:
1. The bed is too firm with a thin sheet and thin blanket on it
2. Pillows are very flat with no support
3. If you’re over 5 feet tall, you have to duck in the shower to get your neck/head wet and washed
4. No fan in the bathroom and no soft/low lighting-to use as a night light
5. You have zero control over your room temperature- they have a case over the thermostat that’s locked.
6. You want hot water for a shower in the morning-forget about it. Lukewarm at best
7. Parking is a bit of a challenge if the lot is pretty full

The good:
1. The staff are friendly

Thank you for the review. We are always looking for feedback to better our future guests stays. I will address your complaints in the format you provided. 1. We are more then happy to provide our guest with extra blankets or anything else they may need to make their stay more enjoyable. Everyday we get compliments on how comfortable the beds we have. We do understand that it is not possible to match each guest with the right bed. 2. We have never had a complaint about our pillows but they are not tempur pedic memory foam pillows you might have at ones house. 3. This is simply not true. If a guest is 6ft tall they would still not have to duck in the shower. 4. Correct we do not have soft/ low lighting to use as a night light. This is something we can add in the future if more then one guest would recommend it. 5. There is a few rooms that we have that thermostats are controlled from the office but we would be more then happy to set it to whatever temperature you like. We are here to accommodate you the best way we can but this is the way previous owners had it set up. 6. This is another first complaint. It might be possible you had the cold water on at same time producing luke warm water. 7. This is also another first complaint. We have 14 suites which we have been keeping at full occupancy for the most part but there is a ample amount of parking because we have almost double the spaces as suites. We will take this feedback and try to see if there is some validity to something that needs change. We apologize that your stay fell short of excellent and hope that you can understand we are a small family owned motel and not a big hotel chain resort. Stephen Grzybowski Owner/ Manager

I hate giving bad reviews but there is no way around it here. First, the good. The bed was very comfortable and there is lots of hot water. Now the bad …. When we booked our reservation they completely messed it up so we had to call a couple times to resolve that. When we arrived we found out it still wasn’t right and were charged another $26. We also were told that even though the website said breakfast was included they were no longer doing that. The room stank. It most likely was a smoking room in the past and they were trying to cover up the smell with a sickly sweet air freshener. But the real kicker was that the thermostat in the room was locked in a box so we couldn’t change it. We visited the lobby and asked them to lower the temperature. They said they would but we woke up sweating in the middle of the night and had to call and ask them again to lower the temperature. The temperature of the room did go down by 1 degree but that could have been because the outside temperature dropped. Oh … and the coffee maker didn’t work. Terrible experience. Don’t stay here.

We stayed here on Friday evening on our way from Phoenix to Sedona and picked it because it would accommodate party of 5 and was close to Montezuma castle. We got the two rooms that shared a kitchen and it was nice that each room had their own bathroom and entrances. The full kitchen was nice but we didn’t really use it other than to store drinks from our cooler. The rooms were clean and everyone in the group under 200 lbs said they slept well but those larger said beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. Walls were very thin and we could hear all the conversations from next rooms and as guests were coming and going outside.

Pros- super easy check in, very friendly staff. The location is great, and the parking lot was easy to navigate and find space to park close to my room. There is a table and chairs out front of the room you can use. Go down the street to Moscato, you won’t be disappointed!!

Cons- the WiFi is AWFUL, I couldn’t even simply surf the internet from sitting in my bed. Sadly, my room was not as clean as I expected. One of the light switches had gunk on it, which showed it hasn’t been wiped down in awhile. Same with the remote for the tv. The noise level was more than I expected it to be once someone moved in the room next to me. There was a door connecting the rooms, and even when closed it didn’t do much for the volume (and my neighbors didn’t do much sleeping unfortunately, so bring a pair of earplugs just in case!).

Hello Val84014, Thank you for providing us with some feedback. We are always looking at ways we can improve the quality of our guests stay. Thank you for bringing to our attention about one of the light switches and remote. We will address these details because this is the difference between a good and great experience. We have a onsite manager that is here to address any noise complaints or disturbances. We have upgraded our WiFi recently and hope this works better for our future valued guests. We are so happy to hear that everything else was to your liking and love that you enjoyed Moscato's restaurant! We hope you brought your room key and received the 10% off with your room key! We hope to host you again sometime in the future and will work on these things you brought to our attention. Fort Verde Suites Management

We stayed at this lovely place for two nights and enjoyed our time there, this hotel is very close to a grocery store and a lot of good restaurants. The manager was very friendly and nice and gave us all information we needed. The room was much larger than what we thought, a separate living room with table and chairs, kitchen sink, refrigerator and microwave. I totally recommend this place.

My wife, daughter & I stayed for a week at this gem of a hotel. Stephen was extremely kind with accommodating our late check in and providing great information about dining, sight seeing & the history of Camp Verde. Beverly & Roger were always willing to accommodate our requests. Our room was quite clean and included a refrigerator, microwave, complimentary coffee and water. There is a grill and patio area available for guest use, taking advantage of this we purchased a steak at the country store next door, some fresh bread at the bakery a few doors down main street, some vegetables at the grocery store a short ways away and had a wonderful evening meal. This was just one of many unexpected pleasures we were treated to at Fort Verde Suites. We wouldn't have had these unexpected pleasures at one of the chain hotels in the area. There is a small table and rocking chairs outside the rooms that offer a nice mountain view and a great place to enjoy morning coffee or an evening sit after a day of hiking. Camp Verde is a great base of operation for taking in the beauty and national monuments in the area. If you are in the area, don't bother with the chain hotels, stay here, you will not be disappointed!
