Mendip Basecamp is lauded for its family-oriented amenities and activities, with a relaxed atmosphere that enhances its appeal. The campsite's cleanliness, especially in toilets and showers, receives consistent acclaim from guests, adding to the comfortable stay.
While some visitors suggest improvements for the showers and point out the occasional loud music, the attentive and friendly staff contribute to an overall welcoming experience. Although most find the value reasonable, the cost of some activities may add up for bigger families.

Detailed Reviews
Had a great time at mendip Lodge. Book 2 bunkrooms for 3 families. 15 in total age ranges from 9-54.yrs. we had wanted to experience bunk room living for a while. We choose this because you were able to have your own family rooms with private shower room/toilet. Staff were lovely and helpful. Please was great. Bar closed at 9pm on Thursday but that wasn't a problem as you had access to outside 24-7. Rooms could do with a shelf or 2 and shower was like a swimming pool shower, however rustic is what you should expect and it delivered. Had a wonderful time there with the different activities booked. Throw yourself into the activities and you will have a fantastic time. All 15 of us will definitely be doing this type of thing again. Breakfast was lovely but be prepared not to be offered anything like a large meal from the bar. (Pizza, jacket potato, sandwiches and chips only on offer) having said that it was nicely prepared food. We would highly recommend you try this stay with the activities provided. It is very reasonably priced at £10 pp per night. A bargain in our opinion.

Best camping experience ever. We stayed for 2 nights during half term. Plenty of space with great facilities. Excellent staff and great value for money. We were a family of 4 with kids aged 9 and 11. We did Disc golf, Caving, Rock climbing, tobogganing and Archery. Every instructor was fantastic. If you don’t want to do activities it’s still a great place for camping. You can explore the site or local area. It’s only a short drive to Weston-Super -Mare. The site has showers, toilets and washing up areas. There is a shop in the middle of the campsite for all your forgotten essentials. You can hire a fire pit for £10 which is a great for toasting marshmallows at night. There is a lodge that sells drinks and hot food a short walk through the woods from the campsite. This walk is a lantern lit experience after dark. All in all a great place for family’s to enjoy. We will be back.

Stayed here for 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. Lovely views, choice of 3 fields to camp. Toilets clean and showers hot. Adequate shop for basic’s and fire pits. Only slight downside was the pub’s decor was a bit run down and the pizza’s on offer were clearly bought in (the vegetable pizza was exactly the same as bought from Lidl albeit £5 more!) staff were very friendly and helpful so overall a good place to camp and would return again.

We stayed for two nights in a rental bunkhouse tent, two adults and two children.
Think it worked out at around £190 for the two nights which I guess on reflection is a little overpriced considering how primitive. Acknowledged it isn’t a luxury glamping experience, the price should really reflected such. Fellow campers couldn’t believe how much we’d payed for the two nights.
Furthermore, I’d have expected hot water to be provided as a minimum in all toilet and washing up facilities - this I consider a basic welfare requirement.
The campsite itself has a good vibe, great atmosphere, the kids really enjoyed it.
We were also impressed with the Lodge bar entertainment.

We had hired a glamping tent, but we ended up having to be moved to the another one due to the floor not being fixed down and then the new one we moved to leaked. But the management and staff were very helpful and friendly they helped us to stay dry as much possible, also offering alternative accommodation which unfortunately wasn’t suitable for our families. But as soon as we had arrived home, we had noticed we had received a partial refund whilst we was still away, which was very good of the campsite to offer, but would have been nice to have had an email to confirm what this was for.
The campsite is on the whole a lovely family friendly campsite, very clean, rubbish free with toilets and showers being cleaned on a daily basis (althou would be nice if they had shower curtains up to stop clothes getting wet) with plenty to keep the children busy and even offers some free activities. The additional activities offered such as archery and rock climbing were very well organised and the instructors were very knowledgeable and knew what they were doing, they can be a bit pricey if your a large family.
It comes across that all the staff really enjoy their jobs and work really well as a team, they are definitely a lovely bunch of people and make staying at the campsite a very enjoyable experience.

What can I say about this place, ideal for a 4 & 6yo to stay for 5 days, the weather was extremely hot and sunny with made our stay magical. Plenty of activities depending on age group. We tried frisbee golf and tobogganing with (including myself) had a go. Prices are fair, the pizzas were great to share and in the evening the bar area have a fire pit to roast marshmallows with the kids.
Staff were attentive and friendly, can’t knock the service whatsoever. We went when it wasn’t that busy and talking to a new arrival before we left it can get packed but the place do limit guests/tents so there’s plenty of breathing space it it would be like camping at a festival

+1
Early last year we decided to invest in a full camping set up and go camping each year as an outdoor alternative to holidaying. As novices we started looking for somewhere to go, we went to two sites last year.
I must admit, it is great value for money to stay. And the bast array of land means you've got great pickings to where you want to pitch up with toy arrive.
There are some great walks and spectacular views also the opportunity to take part n activies, relatively good on prices, the staff are friendly in the 'outpost' I'll call it. The hire of the fire pit and purchase of wood and starters is a much better price than the first place we stayed (where we didn't hire or buy the wood and start packs). Because it was such value for money. The activies were so much fun and bought the family together, would definitely be saving more spending money to take part in more of these next time.
Allow you to charge your phones when required which is a nice touch. Friendly customers around us, where our kids played and shared with theirs. Great atmosphere.
As newbies we found this place great and would definitely be returning. Thank you for the memories, keep up the great work.

Brilliant campsite with good amenities. Loved the freedom to have fire pits and chose where to pitch. Slightly confused by the 10.30 music curfew (11 may be more appropriate?) but enjoyed a night around the fire.
We went down to the lodge for our second night which was good considering how busy it was. Food took 40 minutes but was hot, fresh and delicious and well priced!
Will stay again!

Really well ran campsite, family orientated, perfect for the kids and very dog friendly, we did not do any of the on site activities but saw a couple of them as we were going about our business, looked great.
Very happy with the stay, only thing that could improve the stay would be the shower block/toilets, although very clean and lovely warm showers, would it cost too much to put a ceiling in there? Not nice having a shower looking up at the rafters to see all the spider web and nests, seems to be a running theme at some campsites, otherwise this place would have gotten. 5*, would definitely be back.

I went to the Mendip Basecamp as my first camping trip, ever. I did not know what to expect or whether I and my family would enjoy it.
It was brilliant!
The place was very organised and thoughtfully planned. Even the signage was clear and I'm one to get easily confused.
The placed had friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
The space was sufficient to have distance from bigger groups who respectfully enjoyed themselves. There were children everywhere playing and laughing but due to no electricity there was no music blasting which made it a lovely experience.
The activities are great too. It's awesome to have the sports camp on the site.
Also the Strawberry Line for cycling is nearby, although it requires cycling on road to get to so not the best for small children.
Our first camping trip was very satisfying.
We really enjoyed it and are planning to go again.
