Take the long drive up to Cornhill Castle, near Biggar, and you’ll catch your breath when you get your first glimpse of this majestic building. Situated in acres of stunning countryside, overlooking the River Clyde and to the hills beyond, this is a jewel in Lanarkshire’s crown. Private and secluded, it’s a magical escape into a Scottish fairyland castle. All rooms are large, comfortable and beautifully decorated, many offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside. A Grand Ballroom boasts huge glittering chandeliers, a large dance floor, a state-of-the-art sound system and exquisite décor. The doors to the Grand Ballroom open out into the vast gardens and to a decking area where you can relax and enjoy the views. Cornhill Castle features in many dream wedding venue lists and it also includes a stunning honeymoon suite located in one of the original castle turrets which occupies three levels. This beautiful suite has its own Jacuzzi bath, sauna, rainfall shower and viewing area. There are excellent dining options in the Ghillie restaurant which enjoys gorgeous views, and there are also sitting rooms while you can relax and enjoy some afternoon tea. Families can take their children on the Cornhill Castle Nature Trail, while the historic town of Biggar is only a short drive away. It’s a perfect escape from the city but it’s also within equal reach to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Business guests can make good use of the quiet solitude for brainstorming as the Grand Ballroom can also accommodate a large conference. There’s a total of 12 rooms and there’s also a helipad for guests wishing to arrive by helicopter. Enjoy a complimentary measure of our signature Ghillie Gin, delivered to your room, shortly after your arrival.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The hotel hosted my daughters wedding recently and it was absolutely fantastic. The venue is superb as was the service from all the staff from start to finish…nothing was too much trouble and they ensured my daughter had the perfect day…they even managed to get the sun shining for the whole day😀😀 I would highly recommend a visit

My fiancée and I are booked for our wedding here in 2026. We have visited twice - once via appointment and then a follow up during one of Cornhill's wedding exhibitions. We viewed around 6 venues around central Scotland before we seen Cornhill. We were instantly taken by the castle and its surroundings. What set apart Cornhill as our venue of choice was the staff and the tour of the facilities. Their tour and all the little details far exceeded any other venue we seen. Our first visit was 11am on Saturday after they had hosted a wedding the night before. The bride from the previous night was still around with her family but the venue was already immaculate and we got to see the rooms - how they managed this is beyond me. It was Laura that showed us around and helped us with everything and her professionalism was unmatched. She blew away the staff at all the other venues we visited and a large part of our decision to book this venue for our most special day was how comfortable we felt putting our trust in Laura. She must make Cornhill a fortune. Looking forward to summer 2026 and staying 2 times between now and then (we're going to be staying overnight at their lodges on the date of our wedding day 2024 and 2025). Thank you, Jamie and Chloe

Had an overnight stay in Feb from a Black Friday deal. Excellent room and bar in very very nice 4* hotel. Bar is not big and could get very busy if a wedding is in. This hotel is very much a country castle wedding hotel. This is a real country castle hotel, quite remote so a car is a must. Actual hotel is a very long driveway off the main road about 1 mile outside Biggar (you can’t walk to Bigger). Food in the restaurant was a little disappointing/ lukewarm. I think the mistake we made was taking Sunday (lunch) Roast (the daily special) on a Sunday night so we probably got the remainders from lunch. Breakfast was very good and standard of service from all staff was really excellent. Would go again

We stayed at the castle as part of a wedding celebration. From arriving to leaving every member of staff was friendly, courteous and professional. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The wedding experience was top-notch, and Katie made sure everything went like clockwork. We stayed in a lodge, which was comfortable and clean. Great job, Cornhill Castle your hotel is magnificent and the best bit is your staff.

From arriving to departure you could not fault this hotel. We stayed over Christmas and the welcome was wonderful. The staff are helpful friendly and way above the average staff they go above and beyond for you. My husband celebrated his birthday on boxing day and they surprised him with a beautiful desert board. The food was good and the hotel very relaxing our bedroom very comfortable you could not ask for more. We had to leave before breakfast so they packed us food to take with us bacon rolls delicious. Thank-you for making our stay memorable. We hope to return.

Just returned from a stay at Cornhill to celebrate my 30th Birthday in the most beautiful Balmoral Suite. We had afternoon tea on arrival - the best we've had, so filling! Dinner & Breakfast in the restaurant, and cocktails from the bar were all amazing, could not fault a thing. The staff were all lovely and friendly and helped my husband with secretly booking things to surprise me. The hotel is absolutely stunning and was still decorated for Christmas with so many trees! We will definitely be back at some point in the future and can't stop telling family & friends about our experience. It really was magical. Thanks again for helping me to celebrate my birthday in style! The most beautiful castle ever!

Just back from a 2 night festive break at Cornhill Castle, what a beautiful building in a stunning setting.Check in was informal and friendly, exactly the kind of welcome we like, the attitude of the staff at check in mirrored the behaviour of every member of staff we had interaction with during our 2 night stay. Our large room was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. There was tea and coffee facilities and a chargeable mini bar, which we did not make use of as we preferred to use the bar downstairs There was also an inroom safe and a walk in shower. The food was beautiful,my only complaint was the portion sizes were huge,so much so that on Christmas Eve we could not manage our sweet. We want to thank all the staff at the hotel for giving up their Christmas so we could enjoy ours.

Make sure you book through booking.com and don't pay a deposit Unfortunately my friends wedding for next year has been cancelled. I had booked a lodge for the event paying £100 deposit. The initial email stated this was a non refundable deposit, I then received another email confirmation stating it was a £50 non refundable deposit. I called the hotel to cancel who basically told me to cancel online as that was how I booked. When I called back to enquire about my £50 refund I was told I wasn't entitled to it as I hadn't put in the notes I was attending a wedding!!!! When I pointed out they do not make it clear to do this for a reduced deposit and had there been a drop down giving this option I would have highlighted this, I was told it should have been there but there has been some online issues with the bookings etc - even though not my fault it wasn't an option they are not interested. Whilst I appreciate they have cost to cover even in the event of a cancelled wedding they are certainly getting enough deposit from that and find it shocking they are not willing top meet me half way. Lesson learnt - use booking.com and pay no deposit

Calum and I would like to thank you again for making our wedding day just perfect From the very first day when we had the pleasure of meeting you all at your amazing venue , and throughout our entire planning experience, you were able to somehow make the process trouble free and allowed all of us to just relax and simply look forward to enjoying the day. The staff provided exceptional service though out the day and we could not have been happier🤍 we wish we could do it all over again! Verity & Calum X
