We dined mid week and the restaurant was fairly full but the diners were kept well apart.

My first plate was a brieschetta Fiorentine which were 2 pieces of toasted bread covered by tomato pieces and balsamic vinegar costing £6 which put me in good stead for the rest of the evening.

Both main courses were a "special" of monkfish accompanied by boiled and buttered potatoes and brocolli. Monkfish is not always available so it is a joy when cooked properly which it was. Perhaps not typically Italian, rather more English in style, but a good meal which tasted even better with a bottle of "Romeo & Juliet" 2019 (white) at £24.50. A good pairing.

Our choice of dessert was identical, it being a good slice of sponge cake infused with orange and served with ice cream My fellow diner was disappointed to find that the restaurant sold no dessert wine.

Black coffee with a shot of limencello to finish and we departed very happily.
An unpretentious Italian restaurant which has operated for over 20 years so they should know what to do by now. Very handy for the railway station. Recommended.

A bit rough around the edges but generally good. If as I was your are travelling by train then the location couldn’t be better, literally 1 minute from the station. If, as I was, you are dining at the Michelin starred Home restaurant, then it’s a 2 minute walk so ideal. I had room 7 on the first floor. The room itself was large with a huge bay window and a view to the front of the hotel, a large tree outside providing good privacy. A standard offering of tea, coffee and basic toiletries was provided. Room got a lot of sun but the windows opened, allowing ventilation. The bathroom was quite small but the shower was good enough. The hotel itself was quiet, although I did experience a bit of noise from the pub across the road. Breakfast was freshly cooked and of good quality. WiFi was good throughout. Staff were friendly and professional both in person and whilst communicating during the booking process.

Pricey! £23 for 2 glasses of wine (1 with soda) and a peroni. No food. Charged £28 first but amended it when queried. Also took half an hour before they cleaned & cleared the table from previous customers although 2 staff came outside to glance around.

We arrived at the hotel wearing clothing and carrying baggage that was appropriate to the holiday break we were taking and the journey we had to make. We were shocked and taken aback that the receptionist thought it was his place to make any comment on what we were wearing or carrying. We were not given a proper welcome to the hotel; he never wished us "Have a nice stay" let alone gave us WiFi passwords, When we went to the room, we found that there was scaffolding immediately outside the window and that the windows could not be locked. When we queried security he was abrupt and dismissive of our concerns. This made us constantly concerned for the safety of our laptops. Inside the room, some fittings were rickety or broken, and the provision of toiletries and towels was minimal. The wooden bathmat was not hygienic, toilet paper in short supply and though there were plenty of sockets, none were placed where we could put the kettle on a table and plug it in. At breakfast, given the space available, guests could have been made more comfortable through greater social distancing. We did not eat in the restaurant at all in the evening, so cannot comment on the service. On the plus side, The room was cleaned properly - the cleaner was polite and did a good job. The bed was very comfortable. Decor was good though dark, and restaurant staff were accommodating at breakfast. The location is very close to the train station and town centre, which suited us perfectly.

Visited Glendale hotel for a little holiday away from home. Noticed lots of stains on the carpet so didn't feel sanitary so wore socks the whole time. Would be good to have mattress and pillow protectors. I couldn't use the Lamp on my side of the bed because there are no plug sockets available. Ran out of toilet paper and it took three requests until we finally got some more. No toiletrees like shampoo so had to go get my own from boots. Sink filled up quickly and slow to drain. Shower temp difficult to manage. Was always either too hot or too cold. Not sure what the filty plank of wood is supposed to be for that was besides the toilet. What looks like a fire alarm on the ceiling was covered up by an old dirty sock. Went to the restaurant one night. Asked for a drink menu but was told that was not available. I asked what cocktails were available and the waitor didn't know so I asked for a margarita which he made and was very nice. The next night I asked for another margarita and was told they didn't have the ingredients to make any. My mother asked for a pina colada and the waitor looked very confused. Don't be fooled by the pics of beautiful cocktails on their website, they don't make any. From the time we ordered our mains we waited over 1 hour for the food to arrive. Food was good but not worth the wait and would have gone elsewhere. Lots of loud door slams during the night and morning could be heard throughout the stay. Kettle plug doesn't reach the socket so had to place it on the floor to make any tea or coffee. Not enough milks available to make tea and coffee for 2 people. Tv didn't work and too small to view anything anyway. Wouldnt come here again.

Very unwelcoming grubby reception area. Met by a young man in grubby shirt who crossed our names off a tatty small piece of paper. On ascending the staircase of doom to our room on the 3rd floor the smell of drains became stronger. The corridors are extremely dated and shabby and nothing looks clean. Our bedroom had not been hoovered and the cloths on side tables were dirty with crumbs..

One of the beds had obviously been slept in and the sheets and pillow were dirty from the previous occupants use.

Everything is poor quality and looks grubby. The room was charged at £110 without breakfast
Even though we had a party to attend in 2 hours time in Penarth we asked for an immediate refund and left and found alternative accommodation in Cardiff Bay.
The only good thing about this hotel was that the manager did not quibble about giving us a full refund.

I had my 40th Birthday party here at the end of Aug, Tony gave us the whole back bar area and back terrace to use free of charge with no obligation to have food or a minimum spend. The area is the perfect size for parties of upto 50 people and is so nicely decorated, he also let my sister come and put up a crazy amount of party decorations!
The staff were all warm and friendly and lovely throughout the evening, wishing my happy birthday each time they saw me and they insisted on cleaning up the remaining decorations even though my sister offered to do it at the end of the night.
Some of my party guests also stayed overnight and were really happy with their rooms and the hotel service provided.
A big thank you to all!!!

I must say hotel staff are very friendly. However the hotel walls are paper thin so you can hear everything going on in the next room. Shower was very sluggish with temperature very difficult to control. Also after locking my bedroom door over night I could not open it in the morning
...I had to be rescued by hotel staff who also struggled to open it.

I have stayed at the Glendale several times over the last 12 months as I have looked to buy a house in Penarth and I must admit I have been very impressed. The hotel itself is functional and clean but what really sets the Glendale apart is the owner and it's staff. They really do go the extra mile, fitting us in at the last minute on valentine's Day, providing us with a kettle so we could have coffee and tea as we painted our new home. I would seriously recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Penarth.

Visited the Hotel with a group of 18 people. The owner dealt with us personally and ensured that everything was to our satisfaction. Between us we occupied 12 rooms and although they varied in size, they were all clean and comfortable. Some had been recently modernised and were better than many rooms in much more expensive hotels. We all had dinner in the hotel's restaurant on one evening, the food was exceptional and the service excellent and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel and will visit again when in the area.
