It felt like a very "grand" experience, stepping back in time and elegance. Lots of very friendly, helpful staff. Our room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. The beds were comfy - but so so many hotels lack good pillows - this was one of them. The shower was perfect. We had a family room (2 adults 2 teenagers). We...

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay in this wonderful elegant hotel, watching the sunset in the library, enjoying a glass of bubbles or sipping a cocktail in the lounge whilst relaxing to the piano, it was all that we thought it would be! The room was well heated and well appointed. Dinner was memorable and we were well looked...

We stayed in one of the villas (Fergusson Units) behind the main Chateau building. The staff were friendly and helpful, but at reception especially you noticed that staff were often inexperienced and did not have much knowledge of the area. The unit and the whole chateau facility could do with some investment and upgrading, but the unit was clean and...

Was really looking forward to staying at the chateau on our recent trip to national park to complete the tongariro crossing. The hotel is pretty iconic for the national park area and located right underneath mount Ruapehu with beautiful views from whatever room you stay in. But when you enter the hotel... The gentleman on check in was friendly and...

We stayed here for 3 nights and found it comfortable, clean and accommodating. The duty manager, Sumit Sood appeared to keep a watchful eye on the service staff and the result was very responsive and helpful service. The food in the restaurants was good though not memorable and the wait staff, mostly young adults on work/travel visas was quite good.

We loved it!!! The Chateau is such a treat. The staff are so professional and helpful. It has its own movie theatre! They shows movies all day and in the evening. there is a movie at 4pm each day on the history of the Chateau. We had high tea there which was divine; dinner at the restaurant which was also...

The location of the Chateau is obviously fantastic, unfortunately we felt very let down by the service and attitude of the staff. The view from our room was great but the bathroom was very run down and in poor condition with broken fixtures and a shower head at chest height. Its always amusing when staff ask you how your stay...

Check in was easy and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The walk from the car park was up the vehicle ramp with not much room for pedestrians with bags and with some foreign drivers in evidence unfamiliar with our road rules or 'driving full stop', you take your chances. Our room was very comfortable and clean with a peep...

Think Fawlty Towers combined with The Grand Hotel Budapest and you will have captured the essence of this unique hotel. Invisible to the sat nav but stunningly impossible to miss upon arrival. Views also amazing. Reception was unusual to say the least. We honestly wouldn't have found our villa without the assistance of other guests and although suitable parking was...

I was always somewhat overawed by this place while driving by to go skiing over the last 20 odd years so to stay here was a dream come true. Driving up to this hotel it is like you are transported back to another time to some remnant of the old British Empire. It has this grandiose feel about it. This...
