The location was perfect, especially if you are a LOTR fan as you have amazing views of all 3 volcanoes. Also a very good spot for walks. The room was also nice and clean, however bathroom needs updating, the bath had dust in it so it had to be rinsed by myself. Soundproofing is also not good, everytime the person...

I stayed here one night as part of a tour. The location is fabulous. The hotel is a bit outdated, although some will see that as part of the charm. The restaurant is expensive and the service was poor

Fabulous spoil! Great value for money - beautiful views , elegant setting with sumptuous sweet & savoury treats. Phone ahead and book as it is super popular. Macaroons , eclair , cucumber crustless sandwich .... everything you expect from a pukka High Tea!

We stayed one night as part of a tour. Our bedroom was very comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel was like stepping back into the 1930's. There was a huge lounge area with lots of comfortable seating with lovely views across the countryside. The dining room was very grand and we were served a very good buffet...

The hotel resembles that of Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest; it's a relic of the past, albeit beautiful with a view to die for. My wife and I stopped by to see Mt. Ngauruhoe (Mt. Doom from LotR), and Mt. Ruapeho and booked a night at this hotel during our visit for hiking. The hotel charges exorbitant prices for food, though...

This visit was for a significant anniversary and we took the celebration package with the Te Heu Heu suite. This included a bottle of bubbly on arrival, a three course dinner and breakfast. The room was excellent and certainly one of the nicest we have stayed in anywhere. Dinner was a highlight and we were extremely well looked after by...

Stayed for one night to explore the park. Arrived just after the check in time and were allocated a room that felt like it was in the basement and overlooked a wall. I had specifically booked a certain type of room in my internet booking so did not accept this. The gentleman on reception maintained they were full but when...

We stopped off here for tea and scones and thought we were in a Scottish Castle with the views from the windows. Lovely hotel with polite and helpful staff. It was such on unexpected find in this very rural location and I am sure it would be wonderful to stay the night here.

This is a gorgeous old building that has been well looked after. Sadly the service was not brilliant. It wasnt bad (except for the girl on coffee in the foyer - she was a shocker) but it just wasnt what you would expect.

A one night stay to visit the famous Mount Ruapehu led us to the Chateau Tongariro. This classic old hotel has been accommodating people in this unique location for the last century and provides a boutique style of accommodation. The rooms are generally furnished to a very high standard but are let down by unrefreshed bathrooms and noisy plumbing. The...
