This hostel is defiantly one of the more modern and cool hostels in New Zealand around the same price. The location is great. The rooms were a bit small, and the wifi is not good at all, which is a shame, since the rest of the hostel is modern and new. The staff were super nice!!!!!

Stayed here for one night on a powered site during our one month motorhome tour of New Zealand. The site is in a good location just a few minutes walk from the Centre of the village. The powered pitches were in a pleasant location amidst the tropical vegetation but needless to say this also attracts the bugs! I suppose our...

We stayed in a tree lodge which was spacious and well equipped. It was situated in idyllic surroundings in the middle of trees and greenery. Ideally placed for all the attractions FRANZ JOSEF offers. We stayed for two nights and could have stayed longer.

Stayed in one of the 'tree houses' which was a beautiful room with a complete kitchen and deck as well as a glass enclosed seating area. Laundry facilities as well as a great restaurant that was open for breakfast and dinner. Very nice staff!

Downsides were that the 6 bed dorms were quite packed, beds were very squeaky, and the kitchen was very busy and cramped during meal times - it was sometimes hard to find a hob to cook with! There is a bar on site, which means no drinking anywhere else. This does happy hour drinks from 19:00-21:00 for $5 each which...

The best thing about this site is their restaurant bar Monsoon. We spent a very wet 36 hours in Franz Josef and we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere of the warm bar/restaurant. Happy hour from 7-9 pm saw the place packed with a wide variety of travellers. The log fire and the pizzas were probably worth the trip by...

We spent two nights here on our trip around NZ. Our accommodation was a tree lodge set in the rain forest. The room was quiet, spacious and comfortable with cooking facilities. It also had its own secluded deck. There was also accommodation for back packers on the site - noise levels were kept strictly under control as was alcohol use....

We were on a vacation, but absolutely required internet to do work. We paid an extremely high price for a "tree house", which it was not, US$250/night ($500 total). The room was nice, but you could clearly hear the people in the adjoining "tree house" all night. The internet did not work at all. Not even in the lobby. The...
