We stayed here for a wedding and the staff were all very nice. Luc at the front desk was super kind, and Erik (on the overnight) dealt with our late night arrival back to the hotel after the wedding with grace and humor. We were in a celebratory mood and he was great. The rate + "resort fee" was ridiculous but that won't change because they know they can get it.

We booked the hotel for our teens graduation and birthday with a couple friends for 2 nights. We were very disappointed that our rooms were not only motel grade, but also on the ground floor with a view of the parking lot. We called the front desk and asked them for any other rooms available as these were clearly the worst rooms in the hotel (for $700 a night) and we're curtly told "that's impossible the hotel is fully booked." We found that odd as the hotel was very quiet, and when we checked Hotel Tonight there were rooms at half price! So clearly, they had inventory available. Gurneys had the chance to make our stay special and memorable but instead decided not to do the right thing by their guests. We were always kind, courteous, and tipped the staff. But that didn't seem to matter. I have stayed at Gurneys in Montauk several times and have had the complete opposite experience - incredible service and a luxe atmosphere. This location is not that.

Rooms were over $700 a night and the hotel rooms were of very Poor quality. It was more of a days inn hotel. The location was excellent, but the quality, decor and overall conditions were POOR. Not well maintained and IF they totally rebuilt and redecorated, I hate to think of the architect and decorated, they used. Loved the small town, but would Never stay there again. Ma ny of our friends had the same opinion

We just got back from a weekend at gurneys and we just love it here this is our 2nd time! We just got engaged a few weeks ago at the sister location in montauk. They had champagne and strawberries waiting in our room when we got back from dinner! Then we were by the pool area and the sweetest manager ever Marielle came by just greeting everyone and we go into conversation she was the hit by the pool so welcoming and warm and when she found out about our engagement she came over with 2 glasses of champagne! She just made our day so special! Can’t wait to come back every year!

Our drinks were delicious, as were our apps and entrees. There was a nice young man who lit out firepit for us. We are locals, it was a FUN nigh and we cannot WAIT to return!! Ok, so I had heard how wonderful the Gurneys in Montauk was, so I was looking forward to staying at the Newport location. Unfortunately, we were pretty let down; granted it doesn't cost what the Montauk facility does. The hotel is basically an old Hyatt with some new paint and wallpaper; the baths are small as are the rooms, and all are unremarkable. The furnishings reminded me of a Courtyard or Hilton Garden Inn. Not terrible, just not what I had expected. Service was average; the line for coffee in the morning was unbearable, as was their training and service- poor to average. The front desk check out staff was uninterested and frankly a bit caustic. When we had a problem with our bill, she was uncaring, and unwilling to get someone involved until we had to make a fuss, and then we still haven't heard from anyone. What a disappointment. Management needs to train their staff about customer service, unless they want to be considered a 3 star hotel.

I was there for a conference. The conference rooms were comfortable and easy to find. The lunch and breakfast were great, a lot food, great variety and delicious! The guest rooms were outstanding. I was surprised to have a balcony that over looked the marina. Everything was great! Would highly recommend!

My husband booked this as a surprise birthday gift for me. I was excited, but he was very underwhelmed by the rooms because he paid an extraordinarily high rate for the weekend. The room definitely need to be refurbished regardless of price…chipped bathroom vanity and furniture. My spa treatments were wonderful; however, the condition of the spa is very run down and it could use a refurbish too- scratchy towels don’t feel great after showering. If none of that matters, then stay here because despite the overpriced room, the views and all of the staff couldn’t have been better!

We had a conference here last week, and I just got to say the staff at the "Showfish" were absolutely incredible. Srdan was very attentive, and on top of everything. He really pays attention to the minute details, and the customer service is absolutely impeccable. I was very impressed, and if I am ever in the area, I will definitely stop by again. We went to this restaurant twice while at the conference, and each time was the same consistently great service. If you haven't checked out this hidden gem, you are missing out.

This is truly a blended review. The resort sits on Goat Island, a 5 minute walk over the bridge to downtown Newport. We were there for a conference just a few weeks before the hordes and sailboats will appear for the summer. Room rates will jump to $700 when that happens. Newport is a wonderfully quaint time capsule of colonial times. A trolley tour is worth it to get acquainted, but then a walk is the way to see the details such as the free Redwood library, oldest private collection in the country. A tour will also take you along Bellevue Ave. to see the great “Gilded Age” mansions of America’s royalty. The “Breakers” built by Cornelius Vanderbilt is an ostentatious marvel. America’s oldest tavern and many other well preserved structures dating back to the Jamestown settlement are really cool for history buffs. The marina district has several wharves with restaurants and shops where lobster is, of course, king but fresh locally sourced seafood is a treat. Gurney’s enjoys a gorgeous location on the water. The property is fairly classical New England in ambience, feeling friendly but well lived in. Many aspects would benefit from renovation. Rooms are non-descript but clean. Fixtures and furnishings are dated. There is one restaurant on property that is pretty good. An Uber to and from Providence airport will run about $50.
