The lodge on the banks of river on the slopes of Mt.Kenya is a nice place for an adventure to the cold zone. The temperatures here drops at night and you need warm clothes. The rooms are amazing and the bonfires warms up your night.

Beautiful serene gardens. Log cabins with fireplace. Beautiful waterfall, fresh air. Friendly staff and very warm welcome. If you are looking for a peaceful break then this is the place. Good food very good ambience. Beautiful birds like peacock, peahen, turkey, geese, ducks. Dancing bird. Just amazing.

Very sad to see what was once an idyllic hideaway in a magical location is now completely run down and left uncared for. The cabins are falling apart, the outdoor kitchens are broken down and the whole place is littered with pieces of old furniture and building material. We had booked a self catering Banda however left after ten minutes...

Timau river Lodge had for the last 10 years been my choice base for Mt Kenya climbing. The place is an epitome of serene simplicity and comfort. The Log cabins are a stroke of genius. The place however needs a little morevibrant management if it is to remain the dream that the Wasons hoped it to be.

I was quite surprised to read some of the reviews on here as my experience of this place was not at all as bad! A group of us set out for a weekend away from Nairobi - we set out for Nanyuki (first time for us) tents, sleeping bags and cooler in towe all ready for being 'one with nature'....

Nice people, and setting - but decor needs a serious overhaul - rooms extremely dusty, really a small step up from camping. The price was reasonable and food was good enough.lovely couple that run it though. Not recommended for small children at all.

If anybody wonders what it was like to live with The Waltons, then go to Timau River Lodge, the poorly made, badly maintained, dark and dirty cabins are straight out of 1930s. I think the bed linen was of equal vintage. The food is reasonable and the staff are really helpful which is the saviour of this truly awful lodge....

Having stayed at Timau River Lodge several times over the years with family, friends and groups, I was pleasantly surprised this February by all the improvements the Wasons have made. The food was fantastic, the rooms have been done up and the bathrooms improved tremendously. I was there with a group of 20 from the UK for nearly a week...
