The room was quite small but done the job, we had to change room a couple nights in due to there being a lot of ants on the walls. The maids didn’t seem to empty our bins or clean the room despite leaving the sign up on our door for them to do so. They offer laundry which was good, and they can serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at decent prices. The location was as central as you’d need it to be, with easy access to everything. Would be 4/5 if rooms were maintained better.

We originally booked for 3 nights but extended our stay. Online it’s $9 for private room but if you book directly with the guesthouse it’s 100,000 Kip for one night. Rooms are basic but cool, fan was quiet and worked well. The bathroom was basic but running water and hot, powerful shower. Beds are very firm but you can sleep. Duvet is quite small for two people sharing it’s more a single duvet than a double one but again you can make do due to the cheap prices. Rooms weren’t cleaned the whole time we were there but again you can’t argue for the price and when you asked the cleaner she gives you fresh towels and toilet paper. Overall we enjoyed our stay here, good location and the staff are very chilled and leave you to it. Free hot and cold water and glasses / cups for drinks.

Friendly staff, good breakfast and a well stocked TV room! Beds are the classic uncomfortable Asian beds but we did manage to sleep. We had air con and a fan in our room but at night we didnt need it. Bathroom with shower all ok. Pool was a little disappointing, it was under filled and had leaves and stuff floating in it. Also there weren't many places to sit around the pool so we hardly used it. Good location to everything you need in Vang Vieng.

Good hotel for a budget price, location good. The hostel is dated but clean and for £10 a night double room with aircon and on suite I was well happy. Free hot and cold drinking water downstairs. Reception speak English.
Would I stay here again yes, would I recommend to friends yes.

I stayed at Pan's Place in Vang Vieng for 2 days and we had nothing but problems. We booked 12 hours ahead because we were arriving in the morning and when we arrived they said our room (worth 50,000) wasn't ready so they put us in a more expensive room (85,000) than we booked. When I asked if we would have to pay the extra 5 dollars he said no. The next morning the owner then told me I should have enough money to pay for it and was very aggressive towards me when I tried to pay 50, 000 kip instead of 85,000. Then when I checked out he wouldn't return my key deposit and said I had stayed for three nights when I had stayed two. He blatantly stole 10 dollars off me by saying I had stayed 3 nights and made me pay for the more expensive room, even though when I asked if I had to pay more he said no. He would not communicate and at the end of our discussion he walked away and told me to get out.

The entire experience made me so upset that it ruined my time in Vang Vieng and I left a day early. I can see others had a good experience so maybe he only abuses young single females who he feels are more easily pushed around.

The rooms were not that bad but I have stayed in cheaper budget rooms in Laos with better mattressess and cleaner. I would not call the rooms clean but there were no sings of rats or bugs and there were mosquito nets. I was also provided a towel. He also promised hot water but both times I showered it was freezing.

All in all it was an awful experience and I felt sick everytime I returned to my guesthouse during my time in Vang Vieng.

At the hostel today and sat down on the toilet and leaned back and the tank broke lmfao. The tank was already kind of messed up - had a huge rock inside of it- "to save water" with a wooden lid because the original ceramic one was broken. I think I the wooden improvised lid protruded too much which led to the break. the owner at the hostel went and bought a whole brand new toilet- bowl and all. They wanted me to pay 500000 kip. I said no and offered 250k so they had me taken to jail. Lmfao. I got out an hour later and only paid 300k. Stay far away.

Response from chris p, Owner at Pan's Place
Responded 27 Apr 2015
To anyone like Eddie, and people concerned about this review, Eddie let us know about a broken toilet only after we mentioned we were about to clean the room. We discovered that the tank had cracked and needed to be replaced right away. The new toilet cost us 480,000 Kip ($60) and we asked Eddie to pay for it. His first excuse was that he could not afford it because he was travelling for two years. His second excuse was that his bank account could only be accessed once per day. When those didn't work he accused us of scamming him by putting a wooden lid on the bowl and a big rock in the tank. The wooden lid was a replacement part and the rock was to save water. I don't know the validity of any of Eddies claims about physics or his bank account, but what's important to know is that Eddie was not calm or cooperative. He raised his voice quickly, called us scammers and continued to make a scene at reception, shouting at us while we were trying to help the gathering crowd of people inconvenienced by his poor conflict resolution skills. He tried to offer us 250,000 Kip, but we refused, partially due to his lack of patience and people skills. When we told him we'd have no choice to get the police involved, he chose to go rather than wait an extra day to pull more money out of his account. By the time the police arrived, Eddie was trying to leave without paying and I was concerned for the safety of the manager who was watching his bag. The police took Eddie away and a few hours later a different manager received a phone call. The police told us that Eddie was crying and just wanted to go home. We accepted sympathetically because $60 is a silly thing to go to prison for. I'm very surprised to see Eddie's review after we spared him a night in Lao jail. That night I heard from some guests unimpressed with Eddie's behavior inform me that despite being out of money, Eddie was out drinking at the bar. They also mentioned he was gloating about earning $1000 off of selling some concert tickets. Eddie broke something and refused to pay for it. He made various attempts to talk his way out of it, but we were very inconvenienced by his method of yelling at us while we were trying to help other guests. He voluntarily went to prison rather than asking to work off the debt, pay in a few days or borrow money from a friend. Prison broke Eddie, but not long enough to ruin a night at the bar and despite our patience and generosity he still chose to give us a bad hostel review. Thank you for understanding our side of the story, Pan's Place

I stayed at Pans place with a friend in June.
We had a nice double fan room at the rear for 50,000 kip and the room was nice.
The rest of the guest house and communal areas were dismal and run down to say the least. The kitchen was filthy and the service was appalling with some people waiting over an hour to be served. The girl who runs the place speaks a little English and tries hard but they were very short staffed, except for the Austrailian/New Zealand helper who always seemed busy offering to sell Mushroom shakes and Opium to the new arrivals..
We were glad to be at the rear of the building as there was lots of noise and arguing in the main building until 3-4 am and although there were signs everywhere telling the guests to keep quiet, no one seemd to enforce them. The chalets at the rear seemed good value except for the mould smell and the LIVE Electric switches inside the shared bathrooms.
We planned to stay a week but after 3 days we moved to the guest house next door for the same price but with free wifi and much friendlier service.
Pans offers cheap budget accommodation but there are many places in Vang Vieng at similar prices with far better service.

Pan's Place is on the main street in Vang VIeng so is close to everything which is convenient. You can walk to any of the bars, restaurants, and tour offices. The staff were friendly and helpful, and helped to book tours and arrange transport, and also advise on places to go and things to see.

The room was very basic, the ensuite bathroom was dirty with ants in it and I did not feel comfortable going in there without my flip flops on, the wifi was very slow, and there was no sound proofing so I had the joys of listening to the couple next door having sex each night and the TV in the TV Room on the other side of my room going on to all hours of the morning.

It was a decent price for what it was but would not stay there for more than a couple of nights - there are probably better places for similar money.

Stayed here for 4 nights and had the time of my life. Perfect place for meeting people who want to chill and have fun! The chill-out hammock area is the best part, great area for sitting back and relaxing. Walking distance to all the clubs and bars whilst also accessible to the caves and Blue Lagoon.

The weather whilst I was in Vang Vieng was terrible but staying at Pans Place still made this one of my favourite places of my trip so far meeting people from all walks of life. Highly recommend! Sure to be back.

Went to stay here for 2-3 nights but the atmosphere was just incredibly fantastic and ended up staying for 7 nights! Pierce who runs the reception definitely have an invitation to my wedding. If you're going to Vang Vieng and decide to stay elsewhere you will definitely regret your decision as there is no place like this on earth.

All the love from both Blake and I ❤️
