Fantastic hotel , the rooms were airy and comfortable. The staff were amazing - always happy and a smile on their face. Loved the Friday night curry buffet - such a good price and the cocktails were flowing later on. The arrack cocktail is probably one of the best I’ve had here in SL. Never met the owner as he was away in business but the manger Sunil was always around and ready to help if needed . Will be back next year .

Lions rest was perfect for our family, the room was spacious. The staff are so helpful. The hotel has a pool and having the green and the beach out front meant that I wasn’t restricted to the staying in the hotel with my son if my hubby went out early for a surf.

I just spent a month here and I’ve got to say it was perfect. Great food, I had the granola breakfast nearly every day it’s so good. Then off for a surf lesson with Lucky, brilliant teacher who eventually got me up and surfing on my own. Lovely rooms, great air con and good wi fi incase you need to work while you’re there at all. Really well run place with incredible staff who just became mates in the end. Had my ginger and lime tea ready for me before I even asked. Great location just out of the more hectic weligama, peaceful but close to loads of great surf spots. I literally couldn’t recommend it enough, life changing trip for me. I’m going to be returning a lot. Thank you everyone, can’t wait to see you all again.

This was our third stay at Lion's Rest and it gets better every time. We normally would go in January but this time we decided to spend Christmas and New Year. Firstly we would like to say a Big Thanks to the owner Micky for bringing his vision of The Lion's Rest to Life. It really is an amazing and wonderful place to stay from the beautiful building itself to the location set in a little village overlooking the grassy bay with the lovely cows and the surf, beach, palm trees and sunset as the backdrop. The Manager Sunil always greets you with a friendly smile and is very knowledgeable about the local area and makes sure you have a wonderful time. Sunil makes recommendations on where to go for food and days out and has a great sense of humour. All the staff at the front of house welcomed us each day for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a smile and great service. We can't thank them enough for all their hard work serving as well as being entertaining and friendly. Special thanks to Prasaad for the late nights at the bar over Christmas and New Year when we all stayed up a little too late - we do appreciate it. Kalhara thank you for being so attentive and always having a smile. Ayesh for being such a sweet soul. Radeesha, Buddika and all the guys in the kitchen for all the wonderful food. What makes Lion's Rest special is that it attracts a wonderful bunch of people from all over the world. The Surfing is amazing but even if you don't surf there are lots of other attractions nearby - Turtle Beach, River Cruise with the Monkeys, Galle Fort, Train Journeys, Elephant Park and lots of other restaurants in the village and chill out bars nearby. Tuk Tuk's outside to take you wherever you want to go. Fantastic atmosphere whether you are single, a couple or family with younger or older kids. The pool is refreshing especially when it gets hot which is all the time. Rooms are spacious with air-con, ensuites and very clean. Yoga with the lovely Lara available everyday. Lucky is an amazing surf coach and has a beautiful family including Indika whom makes amazing curry. Christmas Eve we had a full Christmas Buffet Meal which was wonderful and enjoyed by all. We made lots of new friends this year which made it all the more memorable. Lion's Rest Motto is Everyday Beautiful and it really was. Highly recommend a stay here you will not be disappointed. Myself Wife and 20 year old son spent two wonderful weeks over Christmas and new years at Lions Rest and we three all agreed it’s the best winter sun Christmas beach holiday we have ever had. Lions Rest is set within a perfect unspoiled oasis surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches clear crystal warm waters that make you feel like a desert island cast away. Early mornings watching and talking to the local stick fishermen who fish from the beach the same way they have done for ever Amazing. A very safe and hassle free location for people travelling alone. This small fishing village is populated with great local family run restaurants serving traditional Sri Lankan food which includes that served at Lions Rest. A short and cheap tuc tuc ride away from many lively but not rowdy beach bars. Temples Tea Plantations Lagoons and the bustling town of Weligama. Lions Rest is a laid back but extremely well run hotel Rooms are spacious ,comfortable , well maintained and very clean. The staff are super friendly and efficient without being overbearing. The hotel is small and intermate to mix and make lots of new friends easily, people from all over the world, but big enough and well laid out to find your own space and peace. The management will ensure you get the best experience from your stay and are more than happy arranging excursions to fine restaurants- Safaris - Snorkelling - Swimming with turtles - Mountain hikes Train Trips to historic ports and of course Surfing. Lucky the Lions Rest surf instructor who is only one of a few certified instructors in the area has a wealth of knowledge about the local surf, and taught my son who was a complete novice to surf on his first lesson. Not really knowing how to spend our last days in Sri Lanka Micky & Sunil took the time to arrange an unforgettable excursion that would take us home , starting with executive taxi to Ella with accommodation ,where we boarded an open carriage train to Hatton journeying through the countryside, mountain ranges and tea plantations ,seeing some of the worlds most spectacular scenery. Then a 3am mountain hike of 2300 steps to Adams Peak where we watched the sunrise sitting at the foot of the Sri Pada temple with many other local pilgrims and tourists. A well earned car journey and rest took us finally to Colombo and a pampered two days stay at the exclusive Marino Beach Hotel A perfect end to a perfect holiday. I only intended to write a short complimentary review today but didn’t actually realise how many wonderful things we did at Lions Rest and in Sri Lanka. Many Thanks to Owner Micky Manager Sunil and all the Staff at Lions Rest for all the unfortunate memories and experiences. Manager Micky from London has extensively traveled the world his whole life and it’s obvious now why he decided on this this location to build his hotel. …

Thank you so much to everyone at Lions Rest for giving us the most incredible holiday. You will NOT be disappointed with this place, it truly is so special. Me and my family stayed here for 10 nights over the Christmas break. Mikey, Sunil and all the team - Prasaad, Nuwan, Kalahara, Ayesh, Radeesha & Buddika, I cannot thank you enough for your warm hospitality. The rooms, food (including the delicious Espresso Martinis, Curry Buffet & Christmas Spread), Yoga, Surf, Christmas Entertainment, Beautiful Sunsets were all faultless. My 10 year old daughter loved the experience and enjoyed spending time with the other guests children - they had so much fun together, watching their Christmas movies each evening and enjoying the Christmas arts and crafts with Helen. Sunil organised our trip to the Safari, surf lessons and Mikey gave us the best recommendations on beaches (one that we even got to swim/snorkel with turtles) and REALLY good local restaurants. A great week with family. Sunil (the front of house) looked after us like silk worms. Very laid back. Good food. Attentive staff. Quiet and across from the surf. Fish banquet and fireworks for NYE were a highlight. And Lara’s morning and night yoga amazing!!

I came to Lion's Rest with some friends as outside guests for lunch. The staff were really welcoming and smiley. The menu was really varied with lots of choice but not overwhelming. We had the sun-dried tomato pesto pasta, curried seafood pie and the chicken burger. It was all really delicious, well-presented, generous portions and reasonable prices. Will definitely go back to try the other things on the menu! Thank you!

Lovely hotel and amazing location for a Sri Lanka surf trip. Just an easy taxi tide from the airport , waves on your doorstep, stunning views and super friendly staff! Stayed here for two weeks and surfed all the local spots including Coconuts right outside. Thanks Mike, Sunil and all at Lions Rest for making it feel like home …. until next time :)
